A.B.C. never admitted it, but "Saturday Night Live WIth Howard Cosell" was nothing but a failed attempt to revive "The Hollywood Palace" (which was also on Saturday [except for one season on Monday]),
This was ABC's attempt to make Cosell the new Ed Sullivan. I do remember the Bay City Rollers and Andy Williams serenading him with "Tell It Like It Is". Another future SNL cast member that I remember was Christopher Guest.
I would love to see the performance of The Bay City Rollers On Howard Cosells Saturday Night Live. I want to say it was the very first episode. This promo is cool to watch. And funny. Thanks for posting it!
@TELEVISIONARCHIVES I'd really apreciate if you could. I'd like to see just how bad Cosell could get, given how even the guy in charge of comedy for this show said he absolutely stank.
Until sometime in 1977 NBC's Saturday Night Live was known as NBC's Saturday Night and then Saturday Night. The live was not added to the title until Cosell's show was cancelled. Ironically Cosell's Saturday Night Live featured Bill Murray, Brian Doyle-Murray and Christopher Guest, who would all eventually become part of the NBC show.

The Announcer Getting the name of the show wrong wouldn't happen in today's TV world on this level.

If I'm not mistaken, Bill Murray was also on this show before joining SNL.

@tvpirate05 I will look at the shows. I don't remember him. I remember Billy Crystal.

@TELEVISIONARCHIVES He was on the show as one of the Prime Time Players. Did a great song about diapers on a horse. Okay, maybe you had to be there

I believe that his group of regulars were the "Prime Time Players", and several weeks later SNL debuted with the "Not Ready For Prime Time Players."

@mediadude08 Yes. And this show was live as well. I have them all but I haven't transferred them yet.
