I am pretty gluten intolerant and I jus realized the reason i get along with so many of these massed produced american beers is because they partially use rice (and others) corn. Dont get me wrong, I'm pretty knowledgble when it comes to american micro brews and german as well as belgian beers, but beers like bud, miller high life, PBR do not upset my stomach at all, while many american micro breweries and some europeans could at times. I use to condemn these companies for using rice/corn but no
@Dioxido87 That is incorrect, rice is the most expensive unmilled malt. Corn is cheap, and most of the "college beers" are going to use Rice. Its fine if you dont like it, but dotn state false information.
beers containing rice are cheap beers. they add rice because of that, it makes the bear cheaper to produce, but it has negative impact on taste. ofcourse, someone hast to like it, you cant argue against likes... but thats the truth, rice is cheaper, thats why they use it
and of course brands like Budweiser and Bud Light are going to use rice...
And in regards to the how does it become alcoholic...
during the fermantation process the yeast will feed on the sugars in the beer which while essentially give you that alcohol. The longer the beer stays in the mash tanks the lighter it will be (the longer in the tanks, the lighter, the less alcohol, the less carbs and calories)
Our beer is actually triple hopped while in the brewkettles about 15 minutes apart between each, once for stability, aroma and bitterness. There are only really five main ingredients that are used in a budweiser; water, rice, yeast, HOPS and barely malt. Rice is an adjunct grain, but it isnt the only adjuct. different beers use different adjucts for different products...Our value brands use corn as their adjuct because it is a little less expensive, many michelobs use all barely malt, ....
Bud uses six varieties of hops in making Budweiser, not quite a sprinkle. The rice smooths down the hops (American Lager), it is not the key ingredient. All ingredients work together to make the particular flavor. If you don't like an adjunct (corn, rice or wheat) then drink European style Lagers.
I teach a class on brewing I suspect I have a little more knowledge on the subject than someone just sitting in a bar drinking beer. You're welcome!
@dtg3312 This video shows my knowlege (not knowledge) of beer. Rice is an additive, as explained in the video. I like real beer that makes use of hops, not a sprinkle like Bud does, but makes it a key ingredient. I like beer that doesn't make rice the key ingredient, but flavor instead.. dtg3312 really shows his (or her) ignorance in the brewing process.
we were learning about chemicals haha it was awesome. we were in highschool and on our way out they gave us a crap load of coupons, fridge magnets, and t shirts :D
