I'm a guy who's typically not too keen on the shoujo stuff, but I was actually able to appreciate this anime for how great it really was. Seriously, one of the deepest, most thought-provoking things I've ever had the pleasure of watching. In short, to all the people who say they want to watch it eventually/someday, just go do it. Skip a few episodes of gosick and infinite stratos and kore wa zombie desu ka if you have to, because this is far superior to most of the shit out now.

@FoxInAShoe It isn't a yuri show, there's just a lot of yuri - yaoi - incestuous elements to the storyline. All of this eyecandy starts to show up around the last half of the series. Almost all of my footage came from the last two story arcs.

@FoxInAShoe It's just two story arcs in general. Black Rose Arc has like 1-2 minutes of suggestive footage an episode. Akio Car arc has a lot more suggestive shots per episode because at that point they took the weirdness of the show and went over the top with it.. That runs for around eps 20-something to 36.

The thing with Touga and Akio is just a master and apprentice (in princely evil) thing that is to the side of each ep's plot. There's no one ep of just these two.

This video is basically just a joke, like those vids where they make gay couples out of the characters of Death Note. It technically has no actual yaoi, and most of it remains on a symbolic matter. Utena is far more complex than that, it is a very well-developed character drama, and not a hentai in any way, like most of the viewers think it is. Anyway, anyone who like deep stories should check it out.. except for the first part and the comedic episodes, they pretty much suck donkey balls.

@efperel I'm pretty obsessed with the symbolic aspects of SKU. I've even done grad level writing about it actually. BUT, to dismiss the rest of the show is a real waste. The comedy is quite astounding typically. Nanami turning into a cow; just what wasn't funny about that ep? Also, the 1st arc, while paling in comparison to the others, is essential for introducing the characters for later development. Last, eye candy. Ikuhara made sexuality a theme, so yes Akio is everything-sexual.

The comedy was waaaaaay out of place, and the buildup was pretty much cliché and stupid most of the time. In the second third it became incredible but until I got there I was simply frustrated by it. For the eyecandy: Firstly, hentai and eyecandy are two different things. Secondly I'm not really in to the penis business, you see, so I can't really understand why Akio is so goddamn "sekhsy", but whatever

I don't think I've ever read anyone calling Akio "sekhsy." As a character he's that living sexual anxiety and temptation that conflicts teenagers. Also, the fallen prince aspect of his personality is intriguing, at least to me. He's a villain and victim.

Well, the great majority of anime viewers are there for the pairings and eyecandy. Hardly anyone cares about plot, unfortunately. That's just a sad reality.
