Sorry...I like the Pretenders, but this is by far the worst rendition of this song in the history of ever. Judy Garland is really the only one who does it right.  She puts emotion into her singing, too, and can actually sing well! I know a lot of people like this one, but her screeching rock voice just ruins this song. Oh well, to each his own. Do you hear the rawness of this song? The sullen understatement that's always ignored. Christmas is the best/worst time of the year for some people.

And she captures that (whether its intentional I don't know) with a stark beauty. She is off key but, its the feeling behind the song. Its not being sung to just be sung.

There's a story, a life, a feeling behind it. Moreso than any other pop-artist has even tried to achieve
