It's just that much of it has lost its soul, it's just produced for money and not because the singers really believe in what they're doing. It's a quick ticket to fame and fortune for many of them. Here's a secret: take "Dead End Street" by the Kinks. Play the intro notes for twice as long, and amazingly..it becomes the intro to "London Calling". And guess what - with the exception of some minor differences like that, the whole song structure, length and all is basically the same. Despite being a Clash fan, dare I say that's why it's so great: it owes a lot to Ray Davies' songwriting. In their defence though, I will say that this is the best use of a Kinks-rip ever.
