But the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act in 1999, with a GOP majority Congress, caused the HUGE DEREGULATION of the banks, in effect marrying them to Investment houses, and set-up the 2008 collapse.

Gramm killed Glass Steagall (the 1933 law that separated Banks from Wall Street, after our horrible lesson of 1929). But the Gramm-Leach-Bliley Act in 1999, with a GOP majority Congress, caused the HUGE DEREGULATION of the banks, in effect marrying them to Investment houses, and set-up the 2008 collapse.

I've had to tell ths to other posters here, FM-FM is not the catalyst to this mess anymore than Enron is. The right-wings fascination with FM alone, and highlighting McCain's regulatory suggestions in '04 (the only time he has ever suggested regulations are necessary) as the momnet this could have been stopped is so outlandish and false it's hard to know where to start. Suffice it to say, that's probably why Matthews doesn't go after, as you say, "the hard evidence".
