besides, among these 8,866,400 soviet soldiers 6,329,600 gave their lifes in combat, 555,500 soldiers are non combat casualties (some died beause of illness, accidents, some were executed by shooting for cowardice and betrayal, for self-inflicted wounds) and about 1,300,000 captives were murdered by nazis (mostly they were captured in 1941).
22-23 millions of soviet citizens died in this war:
soldiers - 8,866,400
citizens (women, children, old men and women..) - 13,684,692. among them 7,420,379 were brutally murdered, 2,164,313 died in Germany as slaves and 4,100,000 died as a result of fascist occupation. each german soldier could kill any soviet citizen without being arrested. it was genocide. almost the whole Europe worked for Germany.

My statements, official Soviet history in 1930s are holding on never-broken official state statistics, census and archives. You 'academic sources' are all either based on western (non-Soviet, then) state statistics and archives concerning Soviet Union and by hear-say evidences of the Soviet Sources backed up with documents which in majority run counter to the official documents, and are serving its purpose only as momentary backup, nothing long term, because of the falsifiability.
Anti-Soviet subliminal and open propaganda started on the hear-say evidences of the Anti-Soviets in general (Historically: Mensheviks, Germans, Trotskysts, Revisionist, Kulaks... etc etc). Slowly backed up by distortion of the hear-say evidences of the others and intentionally misinterpreted facts, only that it could create a self-expanding propaganda base, i.e. Totalitarian Paradigm. From which it could generate facts, conclusions and hear-say evidences by its own influence.
Of course all that black and gray propaganda need to have an aim (instigators), because without it, there is no real propaganda. And the aim is simply found in the facts of the emerging new society, in the aims of the reactionary society to suppress it in most efficient way. Propaganda being just one 'branch' in that process.

The Russian government itself admitted, in 1990, that the NKVD carried out the murder of over 20,000 Polish Army officers in 1940. So the earlier ambiguity over who carried out the atrocity no longer exists. I believe that most Red Army soldiers fought for their lives- similar to normal troops in the German or Western armies. But the glorifying of this regime is in my opinion digusting. I agree that Stlain modernised the Soviet Union, improved economic standard of living but the price was huge.

It was not on the spot. They were incaptivity since October 1939 following the Red Army attack into Poland 17th September. They were transferred to various prison camps in the USSR, then up to 22,000 were executed in the Smolensk area. Those who were not executed remained captive until Hitler invaded the USSR. Stalin released the survivors who either joined the pro-Soviet Polish Army or made there were to the western powers via central Asia and Irqa.
Gwardia Ludowa (a.k.a. later Armia Ludowa) was most efficient resistance underground movement in the Poland in the 1944. Especially after A. Krajowa was tainted by the Nazis and British goals...
The Home Army fought against the Nazis- so your claim is ridiculous. I'm no Stalin admirer but I accept that Armia Ludowa fought the Germans even if they were tainted by Stalin's goals. You seem convinced that the Soviet Union and 'the rest' were the only sides! In Eastern Poland/Belarussia there were numerous groups- UPA, Nazis, Soviet Partisans, Bielski Brothers, AK, bandits etc. It is not simple unless you are deluded- it would be like saying only 'reds' and 'whites' fought Russian Civil War!

I'm afraid I strongly disagree with the slant of the text with this video and certainly with the information provided by 'truecommunist'. It is right to be sympathetic to the lose of any life in any war. However, the loss of 500,000 Red Army soldiers in Poland did not lead to Poland's freedom. Stalin watched by as the Home Army was destroyed by the German Army so he would encounter little opposition when he established his own regime in Poland from 1947.
What happened about Armia Ludowa? You forgot about them... typical...
And maybe if you read any reports by the Soviets during approach to the Warshaw, you will understand what nonsense you are saying... Armia Krajowa was used by the British and the rest as a tool against Soviet especially during Soviet liberation...
The Home Army was loyal to the exiled government in London- it is too vague to say 'west' let alone 'the rest'. No, they were not used as a tool against the Soviets- they were more or less betrayed by the west until the RAF dropped limited supplies to them. In fact the soviets did work with Home Army to capture Lviv and Vilna from the Wermacht and there Lithuanian auxillaries.
The Warsaw uprising was part of Operation Tempest- nothing to do with being a 'tool'. Many in the Polish airbourne forces in the west actually desired to be dropped into Warsaw but were over ruled by Churchill and instead more or less wasted at Arnhem. Actually, correction- they were used as a tool by Stalin. The Soviets dropped leaflets upon Warsaw calling for a revolt. I think you will find Armia Ludowa was equally a tool for the Soviets but that is rather more obvious.
As I told you, read Zhukov's memoars (or Vassilevsky). Or even better, Soviet Intelligence reports about the whole operation...
Armia Ludowa was a people's army, as the Soviet Union was a people's state. Two different constructs with a same goal. Unlike bourgeoisie logic, when they were being used to fight only against Nazis, but more proficiently against the Soviets... Any resistance that had core in the British Empire, acted like that, Yugoslavia, Greece, Poland...etc

The AK did fight the Soviets on occassions (and cooperated on other occassions as I said earlier). But I wouldn't say that was a British objective- if anything, the Polish-Soviet problem was an embarasment to Churchill. On that note, even the western media blamed Katyn on the Nazis.

My statements, official Soviet history in 1930s are holding on never-broken official state statistics, census and archives. You 'academic sources' are all either based on western (non-Soviet, then) state statistics and archives concerning Soviet Union and by hear-say evidences of the Soviet Sources backed up with documents which in majority run counter to the official documents, and are serving its purpose only as momentary backup, nothing long term, because of the falsifiability.

And the aim is simply found in the facts of the emerging new society, in the aims of the reactionary society to suppress it in most efficient way. Propaganda being just one 'branch' in that process.
Historically, Communists are not first to feel the wrath of the ruling classes in that manner... One thing Communist and Capitalists have in common is class consciousness.

The Russian government itself admitted, in 1990, that the NKVD carried out the murder of over 20,000 Polish Army officers in 1940. So the earlier ambiguity over who carried out the atrocity no longer exists. I believe that most Red Army soldiers fought for their lives- similar to normal troops in the German or Western armies. But the glorifying of this regime is in my opinion digusting. I agree that Stlain modernised the Soviet Union, improved economic standard of living but the price was huge.

Do you seriously believe the Katyn massacre was a Nazi crime? I'm well aware, incidentally, that the Nazis killed many more Poles than Stalin and furthermore used the unearthed graves as a propaganda weapon. Yet, it does not mean the NKVD was not responsible.

It was not on the spot. They were incaptivity since October 1939 following the Red Army attack into Poland 17th September. They were transferred to various prison camps in the USSR, then up to 22,000 were executed in the Smolensk area. Those who were not executed remained captive until Hitler invaded the USSR. Stalin released the survivors who either joined the pro-Soviet Polish Army or made there were to the western powers via central Asia and Irqa.

Gwardia Ludowa (a.k.a. later Armia Ludowa) was most efficient resistance underground movement in the Poland in the 1944. Especially after A. Krajowa was tainted by the Nazis and British goals...

The Home Army fought against the Nazis- so your claim is ridiculous. I'm no Stalin admirer but I accept that Armia Ludowa fought the Germans even if they were tainted by Stalin's goals. You seem convinced that the Soviet Union and 'the rest' were the only sides! In Eastern Poland/Belarussia there were numerous groups- UPA, Nazis, Soviet Partisans, Bielski Brothers, AK, bandits etc. It is not simple unless you are deluded- it would be like saying only 'reds' and 'whites' fought Russian Civil War!

I'm afraid I strongly disagree with the slant of the text with this video and certainly with the information provided by 'truecommunist'. It is right to be sympathetic to the lose of any life in any war. However, the loss of 500,000 Red Army soldiers in Poland did not lead to Poland's freedom. Stalin watched by as the Home Army was destroyed by the German Army so he would encounter little opposition when he established his own regime in Poland from 1947.

The Home Army was loyal to the exiled government in London- it is too vague to say 'west' let alone 'the rest'. No, they were not used as a tool against the Soviets- they were more or less betrayed by the west until the RAF dropped limited supplies to them. In fact the soviets did work with Home Army to capture Lviv and Vilna from the Wermacht and there Lithuanian auxillaries.

The Warsaw uprising was part of Operation Tempest- nothing to do with being a 'tool'. Many in the Polish airbourne forces in the west actually desired to be dropped into Warsaw but were over ruled by Churchill and instead more or less wasted at Arnhem. Actually, correction- they were used as a tool by Stalin. The Soviets dropped leaflets upon Warsaw calling for a revolt. I think you will find Armia Ludowa was equally a tool for the Soviets but that is rather more obvious.

Armia Ludowa was a people's army, as the Soviet Union was a people's state. Two different constructs with a same goal. Unlike bourgeoisie logic, when they were being used to fight only against Nazis, but more proficiently against the Soviets... Any resistance that had core in the British Empire, acted like that, Yugoslavia, Greece, Poland...etc

The AK did fight the Soviets on occassions (and cooperated on other occassions as I said earlier). But I wouldn't say that was a British objective- if anything, the Polish-Soviet problem was an embarasment to Churchill. On that note, even the western media blamed Katyn on the Nazis.

Yes yes, Churchill was a man of the world, a greatest. I mean Nazis used (even armed) AK formations in Lithuania to fight Soviet Partisans. (It looks like all that propaganda against Soviets -Katyn payed off).
Main fear of the west, was that when Soviets took initiative against Nazis and started winning, a RACE for Saving the Europe against Red Scurge started (Goebbels!?), culiminating in WW2 by a operation Unthinkable...
Soviets have already infiltrated West by that point. Don't talk nonsense.

I don't know what are you learning in schools or what NAZI book did you read, but those are soviet scouts, and, as it is logical, they wear camouflage suits (as many other had) to aid them in their mission...
