in answer to Melkiemelkie's comment, maybe the king of rock n roll Bill Haley didn't receive a brilliant reception here in your view, but believe me, the Bill Haley ,and rock n roll fans across the UK, gave him a raptuous welcome when he performed in the concert halls ,at that time, which is what the king of rock n roll Bill Haley did with impeccable style and enthusiasm second to none!
Great to see the king of rock n roll here in 1979 - the same year as i saw Bill Haley and The Comets in concert at Bournemouth - the greatest concert i ever went to.... Bill Haleys music will always be appreciated here in England and the world over - god bless him...
Just 12 months later haley became very ill and was acting in the most bizzare way, painting the windows of his house black, telling passers by that the world was going to end, and making a string of very odd phone calls to friends and relatives, during the final few weeks of his life he was out of control and lost his mind altogether.
There really should be a film made of his life, if well made it would make a great film
He started it all really... & Elvis ran with it. But Bill Haley had the voice; You can tell in live performances that it was there... it was real not doctored. As for a lack of screaming fans upon arrival, I'm sure Bill knew/understood that he wasn't the young guy on the block anymore & not the current "thing" out there but would take the stage w/his fanbase & put on a great show. The waxing & waning of the public love affair is something performers pretty much understand save for the ego cases.
How sad that this legend arrived to england with a handful of photographers and then drove off down a desolate, empty street without a fan in sight.
I am a massive bill haley fan and it must have been a lonley moment for him arriving...but then when he got to the stage he became that legend again....just hope more people waved him goodbye when he returned home.......LEGEND.
thanks rik ,i ve never seen this before ,bill haley arriving in london airport , every true rocknroll fan will be very glad to see this / rik your doing a great job bringing bill haleys music to everyone ,the fans thank you very much / more please

The first Dynasty of Rock and Roll arrives in England where he shook Queen Elizabeth´s hand, in other words, two royalties!

That interviewer really depressed Bill when he mentioned how few people were there to welcome him, bummer

Yeah what an ass , he should keep his observations to him self, I bet he played to full houses any how.

It is sad how music icons cast aside and given very little recognition for their contributions.
It is only when they are gone that people begin to talk and start to miss them.
Isn't that too late?
