Making the assumption that dollar valuation will be a primary factor in famine, or, making the assumption that famine will be artificially created are both fairly shortsighted.

With the floods, droughts, and other factors that have caused crop failures globally, some foods may not be available - or certainly not affordable - even if the dollar were still worth a dollar and all the food in the world was freely available to anyone who could afford it.

Buy food now. Or not. Time will tell.

@CrowsNest2012 IMHO the "Upside" to having a long term food storage plan compared to the minor "Downsides" of cost, storage, etc.. when all possibilities are figured in, I would have to be insane NOT to have a least some basic food storage.

@Silveready1 My remark was meant as commentary on other comments. I choose to spend less time running around like a chicken with my head cut off blaming the rich, the politicians, the media, the poor, ad nauseum - and just quietly do what I can to ensure that my genes remain in the global pool.

I agree that putting some food by is the only move that makes sense given the drastic increase in cost of most foods. I tell people to prepare. They will or they won't. Time will tell.

The study only seem to involve third world African countries who's money is of little value, but the US dollar's value is somewhat protected by it being the world's reserve currency. While it is losing that status, it is not clear that it will lose enough of it to induce famine on the timeline indicated. But still, one ought to be prepared for an emergency of one kind or another anyway.

If there is a food crisis it will be artificially created.Historically food has always been used to control people.Look at the russians from the 20's through the 80's.Since 3-4 million americans are armed a military solution is out of the question(too much loss of life and destruction of property).So food will be used to subvert the american people,this will be perpertrated by the government on orders from their handlers (i.e. Bankers,wallstreeters,New world order,United nations,1%) you choose.

Recently the CEO of Cargill, a major food corporation, blamed part of the recent food price increases here on US Government stockpiling. An interesting statement coming from the CEO of a major corporation. It was on AllHeadlineNews & the HyperReport. I agree more with the 2012 number but the Vested Interests will try their best to hold it together until after the 2012 Presidential.

@solojam populations need to be controlled but thankfully it's fully automatic. We make too many babies, there's not enough food to go around, money printing is only a symptom of that crisis, oil cost vs food is another, and that's how it goes. We don't have enough food for people. We don't have enough work/resources per-person for long-term survival. The population is at least a billion too high for what the Earth can support. That's just how it goes.

@davematherly believe it or not, Most grocery stores don't have huge warehouses in back -most of the the stuff you see on the shelves is mostly all they have in stock.

If a Riot, Food panic or natural disaster strikes -those stores will empty out in no time!

@Silveready1 I read that there is an avg of 2 weeks food for the grocery stores locally in any jurisdiction. I reckon those places will be protected by Xe types. I recommend folk learn what weeds are edible. And get over their squeamishness about eating rats and guinea pigs. That way you are not limited to your food stores. When the time comes, be careful about picking said weeds. As you don't want EVERYONE doing the same. Sad, but gotta look out for you and yours.

This is why I am staying in my home once it happens and guarding my supply and my Family with my life. I have a one and a half year food supply and I am barricading doors and windows. Anyone strong enough to get through better be faster than a speeding bullet!

The poor are accustomed to no shortages, but to hand-outs and theft, even if it's their culture around them that's forced them to do this to survive in the worst USA cities, the worst megacities. In rural communities you might be poor but you won't live like that.

Drudge just had a headline that 49% of all babies born in the US are on govt food assistance. In 2007 27 million people were on food stamps and now it's 47 million. If riots and looting break out they will only destroy their own grocery stores and infrastructure nationwide which will worsen the situation. VERY INTERESTING article.
