  • Wonderful series, shame that Julia mistakes misunderstandings of the Buddha's teachings for the actual thing and sees Western understanding as "cleaned up by the time it's gotten to California". Hope she gets a chance to have a fresher look (I have some videos that make it clearer up though I haven't gotten to rebirth yet).

  • do you know what is more amazing than conversion.....deconversion...........that in its self is glorious...........

  • yay for people seeing the light! religion is utter ridiculousness!

  • she went from one extreme belief system to the other belief system, same coin different sides

  • she went from an irrational belief system to a rational belief system, same side different coin

  • whether you are religious or believe in magick or not, smoking DMT may open you up in incredible ways :P

  • I actually googled those cute boobies animals she talked about and it turned out they were bobbies LOL

  • Um, no, they're actually boobies.

  • And you don't get the undercurrent of sinister anger the way you get with Victoria Jackson.

  • So true about Buddhism. It's just as much nonsense as every other religion.

  • I've had a very similar experience to julia... I'm glad she shares her experience...

    so funny

  • same here! the second she mentioned sister wendy, i was struck!

  • I also had a similar experience! When I was a kid, I watched Sister Act, and I wanted to be a nun like those in the video. And I've also had a huge crush on the Godspell Jesus. But, after I started to actually read the Bible and research different viewpoints (she mentions Michael Shermer!), I couldn't keep ignoring the voice in the back of my head.

  • i had a huge crush on Joseph from joseph and the amazing technicolor dream coat! and i wanted to be a nun...for about a second...

  • I'm real sorry you had a bad experience with Buddhism, but if I could clear things up...

Buddha was steadfast AGAINST what people typically practice today. He taught very clear truths - material wealth does not remove suffering. Only a disciplined lifestyle of contemplation and unbaised observation leads to enlightenment. He taught nothing about the "magical" stuff you witnessed - that was added by morons later.

  • "If you become good enough at it, you'll start getting undeniable insights."

I can appreciate this idea, but it's wise to remember that an insight attained in an altered state of consciousness doesn't necessarily have any application in reality. After all, just think of all the people who got drunk or high and thought they could fly...

  • She glows.........

  • Whats the deal with the really bad cut ~7:38?

  • I love this woman! :D she just makes me happy..

  • I loved this! I know it shouldn't be the way, but this is one of the few genuninely entertaining and funny discussions on subjects like this. thanks for adding it!

  • Where was this video 15 years ago?? I feel like the last 15 years of my life has been summed up here in less than 10 mins.! Thanks Amazing Meeting and thank you, Julia!

  • All of the "magical" aspects of Buddhism originate from when the original teachings of Buddha (the Four Truths and the Eightfold Path) were blended with the indigenous religions of the Far East.

  • all true, religions are not all equally bad

they're all equally wrong on the issue of super natural existence, but on the scale of bad, they do indeed differ.

  • as for magical belief, those beliefs have probably been around before buddhism was introduced to those people. i'm a buddhist and i'm detached from all that mystical crap. take the mystical crap away and you've got a perfectly great philosophy. you can't have christianity without the crazy crap. also. how many people have murdered in the name of god and jesus? who has ever heard of violent monks and nuns engaging in warfare?

  • the original teachings of the buddha originally didn't have all that mysticism in it. as with all other religions, stuff is added and stuff is taken out. and how is incarnation horrifying? i find it completely reasonable. if you do bad deeds, you should be punished. now, i don't have extensive knowledge of christianity, so it's a generalization when i say this: in christianity, you can pretty much get away with anything as long as you use the bible to back you up. which is bullshit. i say.

  • Reincarnation and karma are also just as or more varied in Buddhist teachings as some comparable teachings of Christianity, but we do not fight over them. Especially in this day and age you're quite able to choose the one that seems most logical to you.

  • this so reminds me of the 1999 movie Dogma lol awesome

  • Let's get this on video and distribute this from door-to-door. We'll dress up all Mormon-y and tell people we want to spread the good news.

  • God: "I can't barely stand that church myself! Let's get out!"

    LOL!!

  • Another great set of videos. Thanks a bunch.

  • no problem, please spread these videos to everyone. These are a great resource.
