Having only recently "discovered" Garbarek, I wondered what the big deal was about the saxophone player...I believe he actually gives words to his instrument...amazing and complete talent. I truly don't think anyone can match this man.
I first heard this music whilst driving over the Cumbrian mountains along the M6. I though I was in heaven. Music like this transends the boundaries of human emotions and places the heavens and the stars in our hearts forever
saxophone with renaissance music? I'm not a great fan I must confess. The sax arises emotions completely different that contrast the purity and the evocative nature of 1500's polifony. Mankind really seems to be lost in our present period of history. I find the sax simply irritating!
I've had the Officium CD for many years, and I've also seen Hilliard doing it live. It still sends chills down my spine. And a lesson for all those who think music needs a lot of noise. Just a couple of voices and a great composer.
oh! How this touching and heavenly music touches my very heart and soul. It make me want to have power, real power! to stop all the pointless wars and to feed all the hungry of this angry world. If only all men would allow this music to enter thier hearts, if al people were to view all people everywhere as thier brothers and sisters. I wish peace to all on our planet. Paul M.
@krzysiek26 you know religion is not about god itself ..it comes naturally to human behaviour as a philisophic choice...so enjoy :)..btw i am an atheist as well..maybe i may say just my way...
** Good News: The original audio track "With this Love" from Peter Gabriel to these pictures is not longer blocked by Youtube. So my clip with the original music from the movie "The Last Temptation Of Christ" (1988, Martin Scorsese) is now set to public. This is what I wanted to do first. See my (TIAD's) channel ***
This piece is used at the end of season finale for season one of Queer as Folk and I never knew what it was about..But after watching this it totally makes sense. Thanks for posting this and the information to about what this piece means. I love it.
I remember the first time I watched that episode, I giggled at one point during my tears because it sounded like the choir was singing "Queer as Folk".
Taken from the Album "Officium". Track "Parce Mihi Domine" (Christóbal de Morales). Pictures are taken from one of the best movies ever made: "The Last Temptation Of Christ (1988, Martin Scorsese).

@bamboccionethefirst Well, perhaps that contrast can give another dimension to the music.

The magic of Garbarek's saxophone truly transforms the chant into something ethereal, surreal, awesome.
