The target accu trigger is a sweet trigger. I just picked up savage 12 LRP with it. They put a warning on the side of action saying gun might fire when closing the bolt. So we turned it down to find out and yes, it will go off it gets really touchy. Lol
My dad knew Savage was a good rifle when he built his 30-06 from a 110DL barreled action and a straight grain walnut Fajen stock blank back in 1967. He glass bedded it and when I sold that rifle for him in 1992 a sheet of note book paper was all the gap between that stock and the barrel the full lenght. He harvested maybe a couple dozen deer with that rifle over the years and before I sold it I took it to the range and it would still shoot a 3 shot nickel sized group at 100 yards left handed!
@facusnia Wake him up? What about beauty rest. (Smile) You guys are both cool.
I wish you would get some more videos on here showing us how to really shoot. Impressive. Love to see someone who knows what he is doing. You have convinced me about Savage rifles. Good job Pirate #76, from #35.
@facusnia My brother Bob went shooting with Steve one time, after it was all done, Steve said, "Somebody else must have reloaded these bullets" Bob told me that they actually hit everything but the barn. Bob said howdy, and wished that he could shoot half as good as you. Take care Stan.
@twotwentyswift probly ha ha na just kidding its realy not hard with a 308 as long as thairs minimal to no wind its a long ways though and allot of drop. kinda like a howizer. and it was just the doors no car!
@MrROTTENJUGGALO Go to "Savage Long Range Shots making of" to see how this commercial was made and what we went thru to get it on film. This was by no means an easy shot, the winds and conditions were harsh. I do have to ask what velocity your projectiles are leaving at because shooting a mile with a .308 dependably is very unlikely at its best. Even with the velocity that the rounds in this commercial were launching at (very fast), they were going transonic around 200 yards past the targets.
@facusnia hornady 168gr a-max 2800fps in my chrony i made 3 out of 5 shots on the door no penetration on the door but i did hit it no wind and my rounds where going sub sonnic around 1250 yds i had data out to 1500 but thair was a patch of dirt aout 260 yards beond that so we set the door on it and used my data to give us an idea where it was going to hit 3 shots missed untill i got my hold and then i fired a 5 shot group.
@sweetswantonbombs That is Savage Arms Accu-trigger, this one happens to be a target accu-trigger so it has an orange insert in it instead of the standard color on the hunting or tactical rifles.
@facusnia is it so you have lead up and then it shoots or what? it seems like that would be a distraction and would be a device that would still make you flinch because you knew when it was going to go off
@sweetswantonbombs Actually you'd need to go try one at perhaps the local gun store, you really can't feel it that much, and it distracting to me at all. It is only there as part of the safety system for the rifle. My best recomendation is to go to a store and try one to make up your own mind, I think that you'd like it, we do. Let me know what you think.
I love this video and I love my Savage 12 VLP DBM LH in .223 rem. I made a video shooting it out to 822 yards and putting a lot through a 6"x6" door on the plate. At the end of the video I had to zoom out using a remote, being by myself. It kind of looks like your video, I just need to add Ron's word, "If you think this is the same old Savage, Think Again!"
@yabodmon i have a Remington 700 30-06 and a Savage 30-06 love em both but i found that my Savage/Stevens model 200 was more accurate out of the box but still both are good guns just your personal choice like me i like my Savage more but its just what you like
@yabodmon Remmington has some great history with the 30-06 and I don't have enough good to say about them. The Remmy 700 is the world class leader of 308 and 30-06 while Savage is trying to make a come back. I own a 700 in 308 and a Remmy Woodmaster carbine in 30-06 and both are dead nuts accurate.
@nucsol While I do respect your opinion and obvious preferance for the Remington firearms, I do have to take issue with your statement that the 700 is the world class leader of the 308 and 30-06, that isn't true. We took four factory Savage rifles to the World Championships and we all brought back medals, there were no Remingtons present either in a stock or custom configuration. We both have and know of several out of the box Savage rifles shooting in the 1/2 minute of angle groupings.
@facusnia Savage is gainning my respect and I will be picking up a M93 .17HMR soon. My favorite rifle in my collection is my Sako M75, 7mm Rem. Mag. but I can't speak of Savage yet. I can only confirm what I own, I can say with certainty that I will never own another Browning because they just plain suck out of the box. My misserable success with Browning is what formed my love for Remmington. I do know my next rifle will be a Savage, Thanks!!
When you can take a factory rifle and win world championchips against custome built rigs, that speaks volumes. I think my next rifle will be eiher a factory savage or a custom built on a savage action.
@MrSurgicalPrecision I prefer the F-T/R Class because it is more easily affordable to shoot in large part because the barrels last so much longer. Both are fun and competitive disiplines but I can afford to shoot more matches each year with a .308
@xHOLL0WPOINTx Try finding a factory rifle chambered in .284 though. I custom built my 6.5-284. Now Savage offers a rifle in that caliber. I will check the ballistics between the two when I get time though. I always assumed the 6.5 was flatter but never really checked it out/ BTW do you know what the BEST bullet for each round is @ 1000? I've researched the 6.5 bore extensively but not much on the good ol' 7mm or 6mm for that matter.
@MrSurgicalPrecision Yeah good point. I got the savage f-class in 6mm BR to get me started in long range. Im re-barreling it to 284 Win cos of the availability of the heavy 180gr bullets and Rel-17.
@xHOLL0WPOINTx Not sure but I don't think the 142 SMK is the BEST bullet. Actually I think it is the 140 Berger or JLK? Hey if you're stripping the 6mm BR barrel how much you want for it? I'll shoot it on a future build.
We on Team Esco have the privilege of shooting with Stan every Friday night. He can always be counted on to clean his prone target. Then we must buy him pizza and beer. A small price to pay to be in the company of Stan.
@kindoftough Hell I shoot paint cans at 800 hundred yards. But then again I have been shooting all my life. And Savage rifles are some of the most accurate rifles I have ever shot.

@MrSurgicalPrecision The Straight 284 Winchester trumps the 6.5-284.
180gr Berger VLD + 52gr Rel-17 = 2950fps (with 29" barrel). Better wind drift and more barrel life. Check it out for yourself...

6.5mm 142gr SMK (BC .595) 48.5gr powder, M.V = 2950fps, 1000 yard wind drift = 63.4"
284 Win 180gr VLD (B.C .659) 52gr powder, M.V = 2950fps, 1000 yard wind drift = 55.5" (only 4.3" worse than .338 lapua with 300gr Scenars)
The 284 win shoots flatter when youcompare these two together.
