  • love the sound!!

  • it sounds kinda dead to me?

  • Where are your bass drum mics placed?

  • @Iamnotafurry They are condenser mics and they're a yard away from the front of the kick. You can't use that setup while other instruments are going though, it will pick everything else up.

  • do your heads ever crack from being so loose?

  • @Ree1Fisherman No. Those are both the first powerstroke 3 heads that I put on when I started using powerstroke 3's. They have been on there for years.

  • Excellent sound. Keep up the nice work.....Scott

  • TAMA SUPERSTAR¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

  • Thanks for sharing bro!

  • This guy loves 16th notes!

  • Nice Kit...^ ^,

  • @andy15m374l Dude please tell me how you got your snare drum to sound like, I WANT THAT SOUND :/ Mine echoes a lot :/

  • I'm going to try this tuning method on my other kick drum with an SK1 over EVANS EMAD reso

  • @wiirluvenit Sounds like shit.

  • What would happen if you put a kickport in the resonant head? :P

They sound incredible xD are you sure that's just through the camera? :O

  • @MusicKid1471 The resonant is the one with the port. For this video I used mics, so the sound isn't from the camera. When I'm talking though it's from the camera mic.

  • "self muffled heads"...? oh you mean batter heads....

  • @LearningDrummerSam The power stroke 3 is a self muffled batter head.

  • @andy15m374l shit.... i know when ive been owned ..... :P

  • @andy15m374l now im not a drummer, but we need to tune at least the kick drum because we're recording drums very soon, how would you go around tuning kick drums quickly in a studio enviroment?

  • You shouldn't even be making a video like this since you have triggers dude just sayin...

  • @heckawesomefunnydude Why exactly? The sound you're hearing in the video isn't triggers, it's the actual kick.

  • @andy15m374I I was saying that your bass drum sounds like crap but you tuned your bass drum pretty decent unless you had your triggers on. I was implying that you didn't know how to tune your drums since you have triggers because triggers make your drum sound like a nice tuned drum except more electronic...

  • @heckawesomefunnydude I just said that there wasn't any triggers in this video. And I can't understand what you're trying to say. They're tuned like crap and sound good? How did that happen? Do they sound good or bad to you? I have no idea with all the circles you're going in.

  • @andy15m374l The drum sounds fine but still there's no need for triggers really. The only reason for anybody to use triggers is to purposely replace the actual sound of their bass drum which isn't cool.

  • @guitarbridgecleaner I've never found an Evans head I liked, but I have yet to find a Remo head that I DON'T like. You don't know shit, guitarbirdgecleaner.

  • @XxStrongDrums1996xX I play both. im playing a Mapex Saturn, my toms are G2s, my bass is a powerstroke 3, and my snare is a hd. My resos are ambassadors on my toms, ambassador hazy on my snare and stock on bass. So dont go around telling people they dont know shit when you dont know anything about a good sound. Thinking like that you wont have a career at all in music.

  • @TheEternallifeskater You said, "If you don't use Evans, you don't play." This is implying that you believe Evans is the only good head out there. Don't tell me I don't know anything about a good sound, because that doesn't make sense at all. The fact of the matter is, I have yet to find an Evans head I like. I never said they are a shitty company, as they clearly make good heads, but none appeal to me.

  • @XxStrongDrums1996xX ok...... i never said that that wasntme

  • @TheEternallifeskater Oh, I'm sorry. I didn't realize the username. The only reason I said that was because guitarbridgecleaner said "If you don't use Evans, you don't play". I was simply pointing out that I have not found my sound in any of Evans' drumheads.

  • @XxStrongDrums1996xX hey man its cool btw if you like ambassadors im not sure if you do you should try g2's they last a tiny bit longer. but if you use pinstripes you should use ec 2s just because the pinstripes isolate high and ec 2's isolate the mids and lows i use. The reason being i have both. at home i use pinstripes and power stroke 3s ant school i use the emad and ec2 over g2s

  • @TheEternallifeskater G2's are double-ply, ambassadors are single ply. Of course they last longer lol. Either way, I prefer the bright, clear resonance of ambassadors. I have found that Remo heads edge more towards the "vintage" type tone, which is what I prefer.

  • @XxStrongDrums1996xX dude thats really cool.

  • oh my god sexy mesa boogie i wanna know what kind of shows you're playing that you need a full stack though

  • @MetalDylan2 I wasn't digging that amp and got rid of it. I got a 6505+ that I liked better and then sold off the cabs later and used the money for a 6 string bass. I have a 2x12 now with v30 speakers.

  • @andy15m374l thats understandable i probably would have done the same i prefer the sound of a Peavey or a Engl over a mesa any day

  • sounds like shit looll

  • YOU'R DRUM SET IS AMAZING!!!!!!

  • I do favor Remo heads.. but that's just a preference, experimentation is the key. Before recording buying new heads and tuning the heads is important as well. It's easier to take out frequencies/ unwanted sounds in post than it is to put in something that was never there in the first place, so record a broad range of frequencies from the origin then take it from there.

  • In all honesty regarding tightness of skins, there are no rules... there are so many factors regarding sound/ the 'perfect' sounding bass drum or drum kit. Dampen all you want, tighten or loosen skins as much as you want it's what sounds good in the end. EQing the room is an important factor also. (i.e. wherever you play your instrument it will sound different because of how big/ small the room is, the contours of the room where the waves bounce and settle to a natural frequency of that room.)

  • so the batter head should be loose and the front head should be tight?

  • I'm going to have to try this, as my bass drum is too deep sounding. Now to work on the floor tom...

  • @guitarbridgecleaner You're right. I don't use Evan's because I don't play around. I use Remo because I tear it up. But in all seriousness brand loyalty is the ultimate submission of your mind to marketing. I use my own perception to find what sounds the best and then use that.

  • @andy15m374l Remo is the best by no question if you use evans you dont know what your doing or you have never heard remo heads i have a set that literally only costs 300 dollars cymbals hardware and everything and it sounds like a top tier tama or pearl kit becuase i use remo all around. (but my snare is a 400 dollar pearl reference)

  • @42Gibby That's debatable. I prefer Evans heads because the coating doesn't seem to flake, mark or wear anywhere NEAR as quickly as Remo's.

I had an Emp-X on my snare and after a week of playing the coating had smoothed out and gone black. After a month or two I threw on a Genera HD dry port head. 6 months later and the coating is still like new, albeit tiny black marks here and there.

Also, until Remo makes a 2-ply Powerstroke Pro I'll stick with my EMAD2.

  • @Seffyr no offense but thats a load of bullshit. ive had the power center, hd, and hd dry. They all mark up in less than 3 weeks. I've had emperor x, ambassador, powerstroke 3. They also mark up in 3 weeks. In my opinion Remo and Evans are in the exact same place. Its like the Pinstripes are equal to the ec 2. Evans and Remo are both amazing. It just depends on the sound you want

  • hey i have that same bass

  • @SupidoKyo Thanks. It's odd to see so many people say that since the kit is very modest and my efforts to tune it were very small.

  • @SupidoKyo Thanks. It's odd to see so many people say that since the kit is very modest and my efforts to tune it were very small.

  • @SupidoKyo Thanks. It's odd to see so many people say that since the kit is very modest and my efforts to tune it were very small.

  • @jabp1269 It won't sound the same reversed. Yes it does kill rebound. However in a simple summary there is no reason to use rebound on the bass drum. The pedals have springs and the mechanics of really good footwork don't involve the rebound from the head.

  • mine feel so loose my double footpedals dont no how to make them better

  • snare sounds good

  • hey man just a few questions.. first off what kinda of heads do you have on your snare batter and reso. and your kicks sound great but is there anyway i can get a bit more click other than using triggers , ive heard of using quarters but i told my buddy to do that and he fucked his brand new heads :p any answers u have would be greatly appreciated thnx, oh and your mesa fullstack is fucking rediculous/m\

  • @prayersofanathema It had whatever the Evans were that came on it. Just a coated top and clear reso, nothing special. I think this tuning is as far as you can go with attack in a reliable setup.

  • @prayersofanathema Evans Power Center Reverse Dot over Evans 300 Hazy

  • I like how he says reasonable amp, then turns to a raging Mesa stack lol

  • I want your snare.

  • You have got to be the slowest mother fucker for giving instructions. jesus christ. speak up junior!

  • the way you are describing you will get no response off the head.. none at all, i agree it is a decent way to try but why wouldnt you want a good rebound? and you can get an excellent sound with a tighter head and looser resonant head...

  • @shaytan1313 Tighten up your springs.

  • alright so i have a 2ply bass head for the kick and just a 1ply for the front, i dont have a pillow or anything inside but its best if i just tune the front as tight as it can and leave the kick loose?

  • @thecravenator42069 Superstar SK.

  • any idea how to get a sound like Avenged Sevenfold's base drums? thats the only way i can explain the sound i want. The sound in this video is pretty close

  • @TankP0wnz If this video is pretty close then the rest is probably the fact that this video was recorded with amateur equipment. It sounds better in person and recorded better. Try it and then decide.

  • @TankP0wnz To get Avenged Sevenfold's sound you have to trigger your base drums...this video is great because it explains the best way to get it without triggering. I am also seeking the sound of their kick drum and I think the powerstroke 3 is the best way to get. I plan on getting one...I like evans better but I can't decide to get the EMAD or the PowerStroke 3.

  • @TankP0wnz Triggers will get you that sound, which i recommend you don't do because triggers sound like shit.

  • I bought some Powerstoke 3's I have no mics and im trying to get it loud.. do you think this will sound decent? if i try it

  • @thecravenator42069 Looks like a TAMA Rockstar. =)

  • How did you muffle your snare drum (if any)?

  • @electronicjay No muffling. The tension is cranked up high.

  • when your playing is tat with mics or the cam mic

and is there a more chance of breaking when the head is loose ?

  • @TomDrummer15 basically yes, but he uses a remo falam slam, which is protects the beater from beating a hole and tearing the head.

  • @Karliebabyyy i have a Remo weatherking Emperor and if i do this with a patch would that help ?

  • @TomDrummer15 yepp

  • @TomDrummer15 There were some condenser mics. Not a regular studio rig but a minimal setup. I've never broken a powerstroke 3 and I've been playing the same heads for years tuned this way. On thinner heads like the ones that come on low end kits will probably not stand up to it.

  • @andy15m374l ok thanks man :)

  • This was a very helpful vid. I've got a Powerstroke 4 tuned just like this and it sounds awesome.

  • i love the tight heads they make the pedal feel lighter and u can use less spring tension.. and i dont need to hit the high qual to hear what it sounds like i can just go play my drums when i am drunk and its pretty klose...!! haha jk

  • mine is tightened a lot more and it sounds exactly like that so that's not the BEST way to do it. No doubt, it sounds really good in the recording stage but i bert it sounds weird in a live setting

  • ive seen people who like to tune there batter heads as tight as they go so their kick pedals bounce back strongly and thy can go faster with double bass. you like to tune all the way down, idk what to doo

  • @EdgeGuy48 There's no reason to use kick drum rebound. The pedals have springs.

  • @andy15m374l I can't believe you don't understand the importance of rebound... One thing is that you can use lower spring tension to make the pedals lighter, but use a higher head tension to still make the beaters come back faster. And doing fast triples etc is much easier with tight head. Etc...

  • @Villex93 Rebound doesn't matter at all on kicks because of the nature of the technique and the mechanics involved.

  • You kinda farted at the start. Well, it's what it sounded like. lol

  • you r great at drums

  • "High-pitched attack"? There ain't no such animal. Attack is just the amount of 'click' on the head. It has no tonal quality at all.

  • @mother66 High frequency is what I meant. About 6-9khz.

  • nice drumming but your tecnique :(

  • @TheirFromBrampton whatever happened to the days when musicians tried to HELP one another man? If your so awesome, then go spend you time posting your own damn videos and quit criticizing others for trying to share their knowledge. You dumb jealous prick.

  • @JupiterCrashIntoMe

YOU'RE the literate idiot for not understanding the difference between 'your' and 'YOU'RE'.

  • @JupiterCrashIntoMe Stop trolling / spamming please.

  • @Figmanish Spam is general. My comments are individualized. What would make you think that I'm spamming? And excuse my ignorance but I haven't a clue what "TROLLING" is.

  • Do you find it easier to use two bass drums, or a double bass pedal?

  • @Closed3yes It's the same, it just feels slightly different. When you have two kicks they both feel exactly the same.

  • @Closed3yes i think it is easier to use two bass drums

  • DAMN that sounded good :|

so its just... loosen the kicking head, and halfway tighten the front head with muffles?

    *runs to room*

  • i Like the sounds of the bass drum hehe ~

do you use triggers on that part ?

  • @talongization No triggers in this video. That would kind of defeat the purpose haha.

  • your bass drums sound like cups. replace the remo with ludwig and i promise you will never want remo bass heads again. ludwigs thump your chest and are so powerfull. but for your toms i love the sound. and your snare sounds awsome im going to concider puting evans on my snare drum

  • it sounds amazing but how would it sound if you put a Beta 52 in side the air hole for recording

  • @TheVelazquez95 I did that a long time ago and I think it sounded pretty decent.

  • "these tend to sound fine over a reasonable guitar amp" you consider THAT a reasonable guitar amp? lmfao that's the biggest amplifier i have ever seen.

  • Annoying voice

  • @byerein Dude, just because your drums and your playing are nowhere near this, doesn't mean you have to rag on him. Don't be jealous, you know he's awesome.

  • whole kit sounds average man

  • HA sweet i just got the powerstroke 3

  • the sound is awesome!!!

  • No disrespect cause i love your kit and playing but how the hell do you play with both your rack toms so far to the right. and not having one to the left of the snare?

  • @H1GhVoL7aGe They are all in a row and next to each other with no gaps. If I had one on each side of the snare there would be a gap between the right one and the floor tom.

  • @H1GhVoL7aGe I THINK THAT WOULD BE EASY. It's like saying "how do people play on a single kick 5piece"? everyone learns that way before any other way, think about it... plus most basic fills move from the snare to the right. not from snare to the left then all the way to the right.

  • Dude..your mesa cbs.. i want them

  • This is good covering the sound, how about the feel? I've been quite some time searching for the feel of the head that makes it easiest to play (energy-efficiently) and not much luck. Any advice? :)

  • the snare sounds awesome

  • i dont tune by bass drums like i do my toms. i just turn the dials till i get the sound i want. lol

  • you talk too much

  • @joaoa13portugal Your an idiot.

  • I recently bought an Evans for my floor tom, and this video just motivated me to run to Guitar Center and buy new Evans for my kick. I definitely need the tuning key. Thanks for posting this!

  • so your toms are self muffled because of the ring on the heads?

  • can you make me a rap beat ?

  • Has anyone tried using foam for muffling? I haven't but if anyone tried to, tell me if it was successful please.

  • @theK9freak remo powersonic bass heads are awesome there are foam rings inside the drum and a clip on pillow so you dont need muffling inside it has an amazing sound.

  • you think youre fucking amazing.

  • Isnt it base drum? kick drum sounds so fake xD

  • your snares sound like shit and your kick drum sounds like a snare fuck out of here you suck

  • you talk way too much

  • Do you know which Evans series you have on your snare? I have an evans on mine just curious which series you have.. I'm still trying to perfect tuning on my bass drums I've had help from buddies that are good at it but I still have to work on it myself :s

  • oh my gosh just hit the freakin drum already

  • hey you know those stickers people put on there bass head where the beater hits..do u know how to remove them safely without hurting the drum???

  • @JFCRAZE000 If it's a good one you have to get a new head. If it's a cheap one it will peel off. If it feels impossible to get off without hurting it, that's probably the case. I have Remo FALAM slam pads on mine and they're permanent.

  • @andy15m374l I bought a 22" Powerstroke 3 head and didnt knew the sound of the falam slam,so i put the slam on,but hated it.

I removed it carefully but had glue all over the head so i removed that with some acetone and clean cloths.

    Worked perfect!

  • @harmlessgoat22 You also play alot louder with heel up, u can use all your weight and strength, besides just wobbling with the food.

  • You are Definitly a joeyjunior15 fan, you use the same snare, bass pedals, beaters, and the same tom and bass drum heads as him

  • @MetalDeathBat I got really confused by this comment. I didn't know if you were replying to someone named joeyjunior15 or what. Never heard of the guy before, but I looked him up. He does use the same pedals and heads but my snare is not a Joey signature, it's a Tama. I could swear there are 15 different people with the name joeyjunior with different number after it subscribed to me lol.

  • @andy15m374l wow this sounds amazing!!!! how r ur toms tuned? like tight or loose also? thanks!

  • @MetalDeathBat just because he uses similar equipment doesnt make him a joeyjunior fan, andy and him just both use good equipment

  • I wouldn't tune my rose that high... it's ringing alot, and to me muffling is really overdone, a bass with no resonance is if u hammer the skin.. a dull sound... almost no sound at all..

  • You sound like you're going to sex my ass.

  • @mike141994 I'm going to? More like I already did. Remember that poop that hurt? Wonder no more.

  • I bet that room smells like shit.

  • @zeinali333 haha lol XDD

  • WHat heads are you using for the snare there top and bottom?

    Please answer!

  • @DrumminGaming Just the plain-jane Evans heads that came on it. I don't know the models, but the top is just a coated with no other special features and the bottom is just a regular resonant head.

  • stopped watching after...

"an important part of getting a good kick drum sound is hitting it hard"

"i suggest heal up for the most control"

LOL, go play your metal sweetheart

  • Excellent tone!

  • As soon as I heard your set, I subscribed. You should make a video on how you personally tune everything!

  • What heads do you have on the toms? They look like pin stripes but I can't tell. Like the sound.

  • i can hear the actual kick along with the bass produced by my subwoofer o_O good stuff

  • when your right hand does fills on the snare if you keep hitting it so far on the right you're going to destroy your bearing edge.

  • Shitttt your set sounds like sex.

  • how did u tune the toms?

  • how did you tune your toms? cuz i really like their tone

  • i used this advice in this video when i was tuning my new drum set (that i got today) and the stock heads sound half decent because of the tuning :)

  • when i put no tension on the batter head, it looks way looser than yours. when you were playing them, the beater would push the head in only like an inch. mine pushes in like two inches

  • @wudgeypudger What head are you using?

  • @andy15m374l Remo 22" Coated Powersonic Bass Drum Head

  • what Evans Snare head are you using for your batter?

  • can you make a tutorial how to tune up toms like yours? it would be great, thanks

  • so, you play with bare feet? xD

  • @danstaaar I used to. I later started wearing converse allstars.

  • @andy15m374l xD

I now play with those vans! they are just amazing, light, good control and so on... probably like the converse

  • @andy15m374l Nice :)

  • @andy15m374l It's weird, when I drum in Mid Top shoes, my double bass slows down is not as good as aposed to when I wear low top shoes. so, I choose low top whenever I play.

  • When you say Lose??? do you mean, Finger tight only?

and how tight is the front head? is it all the way?

  • @thisishyimhot Yeah just enough to keep it from falling apart. The front head is just medium tight... it's really hard to describe. It still moves when you hit the drum. If you put the reso too tight it won't move at all and will sound weird.

  • @andy15m374l Perfect. All right Thank Man. :D

    Your Snare Sounds AMazing BTW!

  • How Do You Tune Your Snare? And What Kind Is It?

    It Sounds AMAZING!

  • @DarrienGarcia It's a Tama Metalworks six and a alf by thirteen. It's just tuned as tight as the heads can take.

  • youre snare sounds amazing

  • that drum kit sounds amazing what do you have muffling the toms

  • @TheDittohead3 There is no muffling on the toms. They are remo pinstripes which are hydraulic.

  • Shit. i search a Bass Drum Sound to Sample and all i get is dackadackadackadacka

    dackadackadackadackadackadackadackadackadackadackadackadacka

  • @abc123gpl First there is a lot of bass in the kick when you listen to it on good speakers. Second... why are you getting samples from youtube... that's pulling from a 96kpbs file and then putting it into a project and re-encoding it again.

  • @andy15m374l I nkow he is an asshole

  • @abc123gpl I almost pissed myself reading your comment. lmao

  • sounds pretty awesome! i will try this thanks

  • All Remo heads are self muffled?

  • I just did this with an aquarian super kick regulator drum head. now my bass drum sounds like a cannon!

    Thank you so much
