@jedirex52 LOL, nope, it's not a stupid question! I originally had my home server, switch and firewall PC up in my office. I wanted to make some room so I decided to put it all in the basement. One thing led to another and I ended finding a great deal on the rack ($70) and the rest is history. The two rack mounted servers (Dell and HP) were added later. I tinker around with them when I have time.
@thiscouldbecool1986 I've had mine for almost 3 years now with no major issues. I am considering adding a rack-mounted gigabit switch to my rig, maybe in the future.
@wowtorreon I think I do kinda know what it's for. Is it like storing loads of info from your other computers, sending your cable to all your TVs and spreading your internet around your house?
@vidking101 Certainly looks like it from the video, LOL. I had to run down to the basement to check but it is straight. It just looks off in the video.
Hi, I wanted to network my house since its being built now...I want to put 2 Ethernet ports in every room and some across the outside of the house for cameras. I noticed you have alooot of gadgets that I cant even pronounce.lol
Do I need all that for connecting some apple tv's, access points, cameras, NAS drives and maybe some other thing in the future that use ethernet. I'm thinking of buying the Netgear (GS748TPS) 48-port Gigabit PoE Smart Switch shouldn't it be sufficient. Nice video BTW
@anooosy1988 It's prob cheaper in the long run to cables now while your house in under construction. You definitely do NOT need to match what I got - that would be overkill. I just like this kind of stuff. You'll just need a switch and probably a patch panel (where all of your lines terminate). Nothing too fancy I don't think. Also keep in mind that larger switches usually have fans that can be a bit loud.
im sorry i this is a stupid qwestion, but why do you need a data center in your bacement?

I had one of those netgear 5 port gig switches, it failed after a year so I replaced it with a tplink which was cheaper and performed better.

@OMFGDmanrules Pretty much except for the "sending cable to all your TVs" part. I got rid of cable almost a year ago.
