Unfortunately I got caught by my mum. She said "what kind of perverted videos were you watching in you room?" I lied and said I was watching lesbian anal strap on porn to make it seem less bad.
@kankuro1701 hi there, it´s indeed Dave Kilminster, guitarist for Roger Waters today. one fact, he used to play left handed, but damaged his wrist in an accident and now he plays right handed O_o
I like how he went a little wilder than usual after the first big tapping lick... presumably in response to missing a couple of the taps? who knows. I love guthrie.
@SearchPL Haha, I believe you. But it does look like a schecter, I just saw the S on the headstock and put 2 and 2 together. Haven't really done my research on Guthrie, just love his music
@0xxTheMessiahxx0 But don't you think that someone that was taught by Joe Satriani himself should be AT LEAST as good as Guthrie Govan.
Now don't get me wrong, he is good. But, I'm talking live technique wise.
Vai is good but he's very sloppy on stage, he seems to sacrifice about 40% of his technique to stage presence. Now don't get me wrong, that's a crucial part of it. But there's a line between enough stage presence, and Vai's.
@Bayani8 Not that his playing is sloppy, but he intentionally prioritizes stage presence and showmanship in favor of the nitpicky technical aspects of his playing. He does have quite a lot of mistakes live, but this is because when it comes to Vai, stage time is play/fun time and this is not due to inferior technique. In other words, he keeps his playing tight during practice, but isn't anal about it on stage. He's all about the antics :P fun guy.
@KonkreteXXX No I haven't seen him live, but I do own three of his DVD's being the Astoria one, the G3 with Malmsteen and his visual sound theories one. Yes, I do play guitar myself and an avid celebrator of guitar talents, Vai included. Kindly re-read my post since skipping over a few words can change meanings of entire sentences drastically. I honestly can't see how my post degraded mr Vai in any way whatsoever. If anything, it justifies what some might perceive to be his "sloppy" playing.
@tastytasters Then you actually shouldn´t have heard not even one mistake...because I never heard him doing one in his DVD´s...I´ve seen him live, and yeah he did some itty-bitty mistakes but it was a 2h 40 min show and the dude is 50+ dammit...But really I cant understand how you´ve heard mistakes on his DVD´s?!
And if you really like Vai I suggest you get hold of "Where the wild things are"...all his other DVD´s are nothing against this masterpiece of live music^^
@KonkreteXXX Well his Astoria DVD was pretty much spot on. The rest I don't recall enough atm to comment on but I'm pretty sure it's a given that when he records his DVDs, he makes certain he doesn't screw up because a.) he can and b.) it's recorded (aka studio mindset). I'm referring to some live shows here on the tube such as "Steve Vai amazing performance", the one that plays I'm the hell outta here where he has blunders. But I'd love to get a hold of his most recent one which you mentioned.
@tastytasters Man I´m so telling you that "Where The Wild Things Are" Is The Best S*** I ever heard xD ...and the setlist ist like 100x better, too ! xD
dave kilminster sol his soul to the devil! in exchange for great guitar skills, he must dress in all things rock cliche for eternity. sunglasses never to leave the top of his head.
@dreamtheater858 I think the progression is Bm7, D9, Gmaj7, F#7. Then I guess he's improvising lots of little octaves/substitutions and funk chords over it here. Hope that helps!
mi piacque subito la prima volta che lo vidi e lo sentii suonare live... il suo stile e la sua arte sono unici! simpaticissimo come persona!! la coppia kilminister e govan è una delle migliori che abbia mai visto *_*
hmmm... examining his composition and style he really isn't THAT advanced, I mean sure he's really fucking good but thats because most jazz sounds really hard because the notes aren't in conventional intervals and things.
@birdcube1 Well I'm just curios, because I think there are better technical guitarists to, so I was just wondering who you thought surpassed Guthrie on pure technical prowess.
@zajac1661 Technical elements i look for are phrasing, bending, vibrato, speed, touch and groove. By no means do I think Guthrie is a slouch in any of these, he is one of the worlds finest. But I think people like Shawn lane, Scotty Anderson and Bireli Lagrene are more advanced in some of the areas I mentioned.
Guthrie never had time to go to the dentist...or learn to ride a bike....or drive a car....or learn to swim.....he just played guitar all day everyday lol
amazing how quick americans are to mention someone's teeth. You're clearly absolutely obsessed by them + the hollywood image of the 'perfect smile'. Wot's more, you're quick to mention the stereotype of british bad teeth when in actual fact the rest of the world's attitude towards teeth is far more like britain's than USA's. Don't you think we have dentists in the UK?! He could get his teeth sorted but he clearly doesn't feel he needs to, and why should he? More to the point, he's amazing at gtr
@pazzmodium Well said indeed. Overly 'perfect' white teeth look very 'fake' to me, probably because they are. Guthrie smokes, anyway, which isn't going to help.
@AtlasGovan erm...hi. So i presume u took offence at my comment then? So I take it you're an 18 year old american kid who wants to look just like Leo or some shit, with perfect teeth which have been in braces since age 11 and whitened ever since? Am I right? Or is there some other reason you seem to be a little bit irate? Maybe you're just jealous of Guthrie's guitar skills? Is it that I mentioned one single thing about america that you didnt like? For the record, Im not a USA-basher at all.
@antonio610 When Guthrie misses a note...? Please excuse me but you haven't seemed to have grasped the concept of Guthrie's playing, because.... He never does.
