My problem is with the comment under the video "The true story of how the Victorian Government in Australia took away the high country cattle leases only to allow undergrowth to build up, which caused the huge fires in Febuary 2009" . Which caused the 2009 fires? No! The fires were hundreds of km from any of the lease areas. Argue for alpine grazing if you like but do it with honesty please.

Mttorbeck - We all had friends who lost everything. Some high country cattlemen fought and saved houses and farms by themselfs when the CFA would not even go into.

They did it with burning techniques that their fathers had taught them and the paddocks had been eaten down. Most places it works.

It is time to give the high country back to those that know what they are doing.

Do you live on acreage or in a house? Are you in the CFA?

Everytime l put more fuel on a fire it gets bigger ???

Andrew French-I live 30km from Marysville (and 200 km from where alpine grazing could occur), fougt the fires on Black Saturday, had my property threatened and have friends who lost everything. (I thought my user name might have given you a hint of my location.) This video infers that alpine grazing would have made a difference that day. The fire was 200 km from where alpine grazing would have occured and burnt through logged areas, grazed paddocks. I dislike the video because it is dishonest.

I do think that anyone who thinks that the cattle and the cattlemen (our culture)should not be in the high country - IS NOT A REAL AUSTRALIAN ANYWAY - maybe they should live in Paris, London , New York - if they apply to migrate maybe we will have more room for some more boat people! lam sure that the person below lives in the concrete jungle, the city dwellers - the know alls, wake up make mate - what do you eat - if you knew what YOU were talking about - the last fiires were the first time in white recorded history that the fire past over the main range from one side of the range to the other. This had never happened before because the cattle ate all the grasses on the high plains. Fires can be controlled better with grazing it is black and white, less fuel less fire!

What a sad bit of twaddle. The area that burnt in 2009 included much land that was grazed and logged. The alps in 2003 was grazed - and still burnt. Something to do with the fact that cattle don't eat twigs and shrubs. a little reaility here wouldn't go astray.

Blaming conservationists for those deaths is very, very ill considered and offensive. You are blaming people for these deaths because they don't agree with certain land management practices, not because you have any real evidence. Just that you reckon this or that is just opinion. Yes many died and it was tragic. There were many reasons why this happened and we should get our heads around them so as not to let it happen again.
