  • @astroval1: did you use any eyepiece besides the barlow? I've got the Nexstar 4SE aswell, I'm looking into astrophotography. I don't have any experience with that yet.

  • @sinisterem I am using Celestron Eyepiece and Filter Kit - 1.25 Inch.

  • Great vid mate, I use sharpcap with a Philps SPC900 and skywatcher 8" maksutov but my live view image is nothig like yours it's plain white with dark belts, your image seam to have very good coulors. do you think I should switch to Amcap or do you have any tips how to get ther setting right is sharpcap. Cheers

  • @truemartian1 Philps SPC900 is great WebCam for astrophotography, and with 8 inch scope you can get even better result. My scope have GOTO navigation, so it is not problem to make 2-4 min video of planet. After that to get good Image with Registax just technical problem - after 2 days experiments you will be able to do the same as I can do. If you got 2-4 min video with your DOB you will get much better image than I got with 4 inch scope. Clear skies!

  • damm excellent work

  • great!

  • @SaturnAndItsRings Thanks!

  • thanks heaps, had some video i filmed last year, and had a go, now it looks unreal ty :)

  • Thank you very much for this video!

I learned a lot from it again.

Now I am busy working up Jupiter AVI files from last year. ;-)

I use DRIZZLE and INITIAL LAYER in Registax now.

  • Fantastic work astroval particularly with the registax...i have learned a lot from this..i used reistax and imaged from my saturn video but the results were not that great..it seems the software has much more to offer than I thought.

  • I also have a Celestron 4SE with NexImage and a 2x barlow lens, but my picture of Jupiter seemed to turn out a little smaller and less detailed than yours. Is it because Jupiter's opposition is over, or do you think I am doing something wrong?

  • @FunkyBonesz There is option in Registax - "Drizzling". (You can see this option between 1:10 - 1:15 time on video) It increases size of image times two. The other option - "Resampling" allows you specify your own zoom.

    I hope it helps.

  • @astroval1 I just found out that I was using an outdated version of RegiStax, so I'll have to try those new options. Thanks!

  • can you use the camera with an eyepiece to get more magnifisation????

  • @otaner142

I tested different Barlow lens with zoom 2x and 4x. But for this telescope (4 inches) 2x Barlow lens is maximum useful magnification.

  • Do Canon and Neximage produce about the same image? Not resolution but just how big it is?

  • Im having trouble with the wavelet part please help? I watched the vid but it didn't help.

  • Thanks, hope to get some pictures like yours someday software your using.

  • If you have Windows7 don't you have to download special drivers for the Neximage Camera for it to work? How???

  • @thecaliforniazephyr

    Google: Neximage "Windows 7"

There is Celestron article "How do I install NexImage capture software and drivers on Windows Vista 64-bit, Windows 7 32-bit and 64-bit operating systems?". See instruction on this webpage.

I am still using Vista and its works.

  • @astroval1 but it work with windows xp right?

  • If laptop already has a webcam built-in would it interfere with the Neximage Camera?

  • @thecaliforniazephyr

You can use Neximage Camera even you already have build in camera

  • Can you use the T-Adapter with the 2x barlow lens with the Neximage Camera? Does the Neximage Camera just connect to laptop, or do you have to connect laptop to the telescope? Does the Neximage Camera have like a zoom mode, or is it just seeing what it sees with the 2xBarlow and telescope at 50 seconds into the vid?

  • @thecaliforniazephyr

Yes I used 2x barlow t-adapter with Neximage. You don't need connect laptop to telescope (I did it but it useless). NexImage don't have zoom.

  • Does the Neximage camera work better than a camera like the Canon Rebel T2I/550D when connected to telescope?

  • @thecaliforniazephyr

NexImage Planetary camera gives you images, which are very close to best resolution. I saw very nice pictures 50D. I think Canon Rebel T2I/550D even better. But limitation already not in Camera but in telescope resolution. So it gives you the same quality.

For Sun, Moon, Deep sky objects is better to use Canon.

  • @astroval1 Thanks

  • I downloaded the registax and when I go to upload the video to it, it says failed to start AVI decompression? Please help? Thanks!

  • @thecaliforniazephyr

Registax is sometime sensitive to the type of Codec used to create the AVI file. It is always possible to translate an AVI file into a version that Registax can read using the freeware program VirtualDub. (search in google "VirtualDub")

Install VirtualDub. Load your AVI to VirtualDub and choose File - Save old format AVI...

You also can do it from other program.

Celestron NexImage create AVI which don't need to be converted. Registax read it without problem.

  • @astroval1 Which one do you download? Thanks!

  • How do you get Registax? Thanks!

  • @thecaliforniazephyr

RegiStax is free program. Just download it from internet. Search Google "Registax". (YouTube don't allow me put link).

    Thanks

  • @astroval1 Thanks!

  • @astroval1 Is it the latest Registax 5 with the update from April, 28 2010

  • Impresionante...

  • Nice video report about Jupiter opposition photos!

  • Does the 2 times barlow lens help that much??? Does the nextimage camera help to??? Please reply! Thanks!!!

  • @thecaliforniazephyr

2xBarlow (for 4 inch telescope) may be not so important but it a little bit easy for me.

Magic is RegiStax. On video you see how it improves the quality! To use it, you need create a planet video for 2-4 minutes. For me make video with NexImage is simpler, but you can do it with your photo camera, cell phone etc.

    I hope it helps

  • Wow!

  • Great Photo!

  • Nice astrophotography Tutorial! Great photos for 4 inch telescope!
