I'm lost here .... so they are bad people because they dont want to give charity? Bush could relive debt held by the US government, but he can't force private citizens to do the same.
all he has to do is sign his name on a stupid piece of paper. only reason Bush didnt do that is because it was his crony Michael Francis "Goldfinger" Sheehan who was doing it. watch linktv to see the whole episode
This makes no sense..What's the recourse if Zambia doesn't pay it back? It's been relieved or forgiven. Don't get why the gov't pay. How does Shehan have the leverage to collect?
Read John Perkins's Confession of an Economic Hitman for a complete run down of the kind of procedure executed on third world country under the guise of globalization. A crime against humanity by any other name indeed ! Shame on all of us for letting this happen over & over & over again & still going on at this very moment... shame on us all !
Now it seems that the USA will taste it's own medicine... Stilglitz 4 steps / 1)Privatization. After briberization, Step Two 'Capital Market Liberalization. 3 )Market-Based Pricing, a fancy term for raising prices on food, water and cooking gas. This leads, predictably, to Step-Three-and-a-Half: what Stiglitz calls, "The IMF riot." 4) "poverty reduction strategy": Free Trade. by the rules of the World Trade Organization and World Bank. So we still have a bumpy ride toward the AMERO. Good luck !
...and who's mightier a stockholder or a president? knowledge + money + political placement + blind opportunity = callous humanitarianism or Fuck Themism..this is mine-ism. M.O.B. money over bitches and M.O.B.H. money over the balance of humanity
Depending how far one has buried themselves with the CCs, one can come out the other side. Not that's it's easy and there no debt relief and, you have to pay back the money borrowed and interest. you can get significantly lower interest rates. you need a 3rd party to work wit you and the CC companies, but free help is available
We've usually 'raped' these countries of their natural resources first. It's always the people who suffer. I say emigrate, even illegaly. Ever wonder why everyone is trying to get into Europe & America? It's not cause your kind, caring, loving sweethearts.

ridiculous ....so u mean we should just give these 'poor' countries hand outs ?....the real question is why they are poor in the first place....why are we so bothered by something that is a side effect and not the cause??
They lend out a bookkeeping entry called credit. Its all just a game: "Debt forgiven, debt forgiven!". What do they care? The IMF is still holding American birth certificates as chattel collateral against it.
You are a fucking idiot. Seriously the fact that there are people out there like only deepens my dispair for the future of this thing called the human race.
hi greg. that peice was fantastic and heartwrenching. we have this vulture stuff going on in this country, ie. huge fees from corporate banks and other gigantic usury fees which insure that a person stays in poverty. kudos to you, now if everyone would do something about this; anything , every american has to get off their ass and do something. there is power in numbers.
something fishy about the whole thing, people in Zambia must have gotten paid in order that Sheehan's people might acquire the entire $40m debt for a measly $3m from Romania. I also do not get how a US court could force Zambia to pay anything?
Paul Singer is another vulture. He paid just $10 million for Congo Brazzaville's debt and is now suing for over $400 million! This vulture, with Bush's help, has become the top donor to Giuliani & the GOP.
In Africa, if you eat a banana and throw away the skin, little matchstick leg children with sad faces like skulls will pick up the banana skin and eat it! If like me you give them a coin, a tough little kid will beat them up to steal it from them! MONEY STINKS!
Is this any different than consumer creditors selling debt to third parties for pennies on the dollar? And than harrassing and intimidating the consumer into bankruptcy or worse?
When I heard that Donegal International had won the UK court case I contacted Oxfam America on Youtube and they promised they would do a lot of work on this issue but I've heard nothing for months now.
You are awesome Greg. Keep up the great work. We are ignoring the trolls.

Zambia loses 'vulture fund' case
Zambia's infrastructure plans could be threatened
'Vulture fund' report
A High Court judge has ruled that Zambia must pay a substantial sum to a so-called "vulture fund".
British Virgin Islands-based Donegal International paid less than $4m (£2m) for a debt the African nation owed, but sued Zambia for a $42m repayment.
DanLackey 3 years ago

1) Dictator takes over nation, buys shitloads of stuff, in some cases, simply gives money away to influential corporations.
2) Democracy takes hold.
3) IMF/World Bank hold the people of said nation responsible for the spending of their unelected, deposed dictator.
If you think that is moral, you're seriously warped.
