Tip on the trotline. If you run your main line first then, you can pull your way back up the line and bait it then. Less tangling and i feel your pain on getting hung up.
Great video, very interesting... Here in Maryland a trot line is completely different, we use them to catch crabs and theyre usually around thousand feet long lol
Those fish sure were flouncing... Go get some pork rind bait. The fish can't bite through it so you will be able to put it back in the jar after catching a bucket of fish. They will try to eat it because it tastes and feels like food to them. It's some truly good stuff. I tried some that were like 20 years old I dug out of my dads old stuff and they worked better than freshly dug worms. It's a good stock-up item if you're going to buy a bait.
you need some bigger hooks about 0/6, and i think you are putting to mouck thought into you lines. If the fish is small enough to go through the loop i wouldnt want it anyway
Bigger bait. The average channel cat i catch is about 25 inches. I use crappie heads severed from the 1/3 body mark. Anything smaller and i seem to just catch the smaller cats. On an average night of fishing off my dock i'll catch 3-5 cats. Def try the bigger bait.
nice video but thats not how we do trot line...u tie it to one side of the bayou an run it straight across to the other an tie it..an u have weights like every other hook
I believe the name of that knot is "overhand," a very simple and very reliable knot. I might be wrong, but I use that knot an awful lot because of how versatile it is. If you go to wikipedia and search "Bight (knot)" you'll see a picture of an overhand knot at the bottom of the page.
Great series of vids Kev. I really enjoy following along as you experiment and make progress. I was wondering about the juglines though, and what keeps them from just floating away? It seems like you'd end up spending most of your time floating around looking for them.
haha lol!!!this is why most guys go fishing with there buddies and leave the wife at home,at 7:02 i dont remember hearing you ask her what she thought..haha lol!!!!just yanking her chain...hope she sees the humor in it....luv your vids keep em cummin...over and out from the northcoast of america....
wish we were aloud to do this in maryland but we cant, the only trotline I run is for blue crabs. Bout the same tho, maybe a lil different.... good vid enjoyed
I did not know about trot lines thanks for posting. Also it looked like the vid turned into a comedy when the fish started swimming away with the bottle.
@survivalistboards no, its just im more interested in the other videos, i think the past 5 or 6 wideo were on this subject. this video and a other one, are the only fishing videos i realy like.

In Tennessee we use fresh shad for bait. Caught 21 fish last week on 2 trotlines.Think about it what bait the fish feed on is the best bait to use.

is there a way of doing trot line or jug line with out a boat?
glockman1727ak47 7 months ago
seemed pretty obvious the juglines would drift or get carried away.

@AwesomeFish12 thats why they are jugs, so that you can see them wherever they go

Aren't the hooks swallowed/embedded in the stomach by the time you find the fish?
How to you unhook them without causing harm to the ones you are going to release?
enjoying the trotline how-to videos!
Wish they were legal in PA. Still good knowledge for survival purpose.
