it was set for theatrical release in 1999 but was stopped by the mpaa because columbine happened around the same time, and it has gained a cult following in the past few years, and the last ive heard fox pictures has agreed to fund the sequel, which has been long delayed due to lack of financing and studio backing.

Film came out in 2001. It didn't make it to the theater until this past May. It was released straight to DVD. I think they are making part 2. Check out the website. It's pretty nice. Great movie. Hope you've seen it.
