  • terezi brought me here. and she is also the hottest troll

  • Lowbloods are red,

    Highbloods are blue,

    But I am a member

    Of the Midnight Crew.

  • WHO'S THIS DOUCHEBAG

  • Homestuck. Nyeheeh!

  • Got a nice ring to it.

  • Spades slick?

  • @Xypheriousify No. No you are not xD I came from HS too

  • I'm not the only one who came here from Homestuck, right?

  • @Xypheriousify Preeeeetty sure 95% of traffic to this video is HS related.

  • @Xypheriousify are you serious

  • ah and the page is full of homestuck references of course

  • @HMintify that might be because this exact page is linked on page ?s=6&p=005627

  • >My computer crashed from scrolling down that huge image

  • The reason why I'm here is Homestuck :D

  • I suddenly feel ten degrees classier

  • I came here because Homestuck, I stayed 'cause I liked what I heard.

  • This is a good song, so thank you Victrolaman for sharing this recording on YouTube for us. My only real 'comment' is to suggest that you make the capitalization in the annotations a bit more consistent, as occasionally things are capitalized randomly or in full capitals when the same lyric later isn't capitalized. Also, I would think "Six Robbers Run" wouldn't be capitalized, as it's not the name of a trail, but he's literally talking about 6 armed criminals.

    Anyways, thanks again for posting!

  • could you please do a video of the victor 2 from the side? i think i will be buying one sometime

  • Did anyone NOT come here from Homestuck? Not knockin' the Hussie, but I'm wondering how many other people knew about this before MSPA.

  • Victrolaman, you're a class act.

  • Very catchy and very endearing <3 Thank you Homestuck for introducing this to me, victrolaman for the link and Eddie Morton for making it (even though he's dead)

  • Good for homestuck for spreading this song. :D This is real music.

  • TH1S THR34D SM3E11S GOOD >:?

  • @MrHex2957 TH1S THR34D DO3S SM3LL GOOD >:]

  • First heard it from Homestuck, yes, but I have the biggest love for ragtime c:

  • Gorgeous song <3

  • Classic, and Very Catchy

  • 60k views! Eddie would be proud

  • This is just oh-so-very catchy; old tunes like this are absolutely lovely. c:

Also: "Riise with the moon" at 2:58 8D

  • I am one of those Homestuck fans, though I remember hearing this song years before then. Perhaps my grandfather played it for me/sang it as he is wont to do? Oh well. I love this song, and I find myself humming it while walking around quite often. I love that 102, almost 103 now years after it was made, this song is still one of the best I've ever heard. Thank you for posting this video.

  • Homestuck comments aside, this really is a fabulous song.

Victrolaman, here's a cover of this great song from one of the Homestuck soundtracks. I am sure you will love it.

  • @Marbig does this link not work for anyone else?

  • This song i just so catchy... And it's certainly much better than most of the drivel that passes for music now *coughjustinbeiercough*

  • This song was created 100 year ago, but i think is better than all the actually songs!!!

  • This is really catchy! I like this a lot. Homestuck is teaching me of new things!

  • hahaha catchy song

    413th comment

  • one hundred and one years old (actually, 102 now) and it's still better than a majority of modern music. God I hate modern music.

  • Have you ever actually checked out Homestuck?

  • @SixOutOfAHundred He has, actually.

  • @Geronimoia How do you know?

  • @SixOutOfAHundred Messaged him.

  • Clubs Deuce's headcanon voice.

  • HOMESTUCK JOOOKE!!!!

  • I love how Homestuck is able to show younger generation things that we never would have heard or seen otherwise! This is quality music right here.

  • WHO IS THIS DOUCHEBAG?

  • Wow. I'm so happy Homestuck linked me here. This song is great.

  • THIS is oldschool

  • The epitome of class, right here. On another note, I can now sing this song and am considering doing a Minecraft video with it, for all the scared little children on the server who can't deal with nighttime.

  • I totally agree THANK YOU HOMESTUCK!!!!!!

  • this song, is EPIC

Thank you Homestuck for musically culturing me

  • Amazing I would KILL to have that record

  • THIS EXPLAINS EVERYTHING <3

  • So vic, do you actually read Homestuck? I think you would do an excellent Grandpa voice if he had any dialogue.

  • A hundred one years ago? Wow, that's amazing! :D Such a lovely song!

  • This is the oldest song on my Ipod <3

  • :33 <*ac is a member of the Midnight Mew*

  • "Make her a member of the Midnight Crew..."

This song may as well become synonymous with Jack Noir.

  • This song is over a hundred years old now and I can't stop listening to it.

    What a great tune.

  • Who's Homestuck?

  • @slyer301

    屮ಠ益ಠ)屮

    GOOGLE. NOW.

  • @slyer301 It's a webcomic with video sections. There is a group of criminals featured in it called "The Midnight Crew", and one of the musical sections starts with the distorted line "Make her a member of the Midnight Crew..."

  • thumbs up if you are from homestuck

  • @smashmaniac2008 If I am from homestuck?

    I wish.

  • WHO'S THIS DOUCHEBAG

  • @XxNearlyLovedxX u talkin bout eddie morton?

  • @lanceshizzyy It's a Homestuck joke

  • @XxNearlyLovedxX Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooow.

    Mark as spam! =D

  • @slyer301 This is a Homestuck joke, smart one.

  • @XxNearlyLovedxX Thanks for complimenting my intellect! =D

  • @slyer301 No problem, bro.

  • It's interesting to listen to his pronunciation of various words, e.g. "skeered", "oily", "marning". Some of these pronunciations are gone in modern American English and others are on their way out. Recordings like these are very valuable as time capsules of English from long ago.

  • Early twentieth century ragtime is now Homestuck.

  • I like how half of these comments are homestuck related and I feel bad for the other people commenting...

  • So THATS who that douchebag is.

  • @BeccaTigre

Protip: Bing Crosby ≠ Eddie Morton

  • When you think about it, things like these are more complicated than stupid radios and iPods.

Songs like this are ones that need to be played on the channels.

Not Lady GaGa. Not Justin Bieber. Not Rebecca Black.

Not Jason Derulo. Not Take That. Not no-one.

    But Eddie Morton.

    Yes.

  • Oops I mean Homestuck stupid auto correct lol

  • Jo stuck bought me here and I must say this is one catchy song, I may just listen o it again *play again

  • Who's this douchbag.

  • This song is incredibly catchy, have to love it! also i was laughing my head off at "I once went at home at 2am and scared my wife to death!"~♫

  • Midnight Crew ain't nothing to fuck with

  • I've always loved ragtime! Even if it does come from a webcomic. And I always think of Nipper as "the RCA dog," but he must've been with the Victor brand first. The reason I think of him at all is that there's a big statue of him on top of a building across the river from here.

  • I really adore this song, even though it's way before my time. It makes me so happy!

  • I was just reading homestuck and I read the update of the midnight crew with this song in it and I just had to hunt it down ;) its really great and I love it

  • [S] Terezi: Play tiny record.

  • Can I be a member of the 2:30 AM crew?

  • That's a beautiful machine...

If only we could have more reasons to inspire us kids to find a inspiration to listen to old music! Really, I wish we had more reasons to open up to this kind of stuff! We keep expecting new and exciting styles of music to pop up when we aren't even aware there is already interesting things we've left to rest in the past...

So yes, I think there is great reason that you Victoriola, the submitter of this music, to be pleased about Homestuck's inspiration :)

  • @Invadurr Thank you so much. I am so pleased and proud to know that some of my videos have inspired the current generation to take note and enjoy these wonderful forgotten songs and performances from the very early days of Recorded sound. Don't forget, Victrolaman has now posted over 400 entries on his Youtube channel, which include an interesting variety of the Historic sounds found on record between the mid 1890's and the mid 1930's. Enjoy !

    Victrolaman

  • This song is so infectious. I love it.

  • Vinyl?

I have this on Wandering Minstrel.

  • This song is actually irritatingly catchy :)

  • This song makes me want to have babies I can never have.

  • "I once went home at 2am and scared my wife to death!"

    What's he on about?

  • "Make her a member of the Midnight Crew!" My mind is foul of fuck as I'm typing this.

  • I would say that it's sad that Homestuck related comments have taken over this video, but you honestly don't seem unhappy. You seem honestly enthusiastic about this and I applaud you, sir. Keep on doing what you love to do.

By the way, this really is a great song.

  • @Drouge87 I'm of the opinion that incorporating songs like this into more contemporary sources like Homestuck is an excellent thing. It makes people aware of songs they otherwise wouldn't be, especially when they find someone like victrolaman who uploads so many songs like this.

That sounded a bit snobby, I think, but it wasn't my intent <_<

  • @Drouge87 why would it be sad that Homestuck comments are abundant in the comments? it means that people have come here from a link in a webcomic and stayed to listen to a song recorded over 100 years previously. In no way is that sad. Andrew Hussie is something of a genius in the way he manages to create new ideas and content, and he uses his genius to educate his followers in much older art forms than the internet. I'd say it's as far from sad as is possible.

  • @xanderdune But Hussie didn't come up with the whole 'Midnight Crew' thing, that was Mayonaka.

  • EDDIE MORTON IS LORD ENGLISH

  • @nomyek200 HELL FUCKING YES.

  • [S] Eddie Morton: Ascend

  • @DarthBoogalo Just look at him. Someone that classy cannot possibly be exempted from the fedorafreak intermission.

  • @DarthBoogalo Genius.

  • I'm going to try to work the phrase "Manly Spark" into conversation from now on.

  • It's really amazing that something this old still sounds of decent quality!

  • Many thanks for the upload! This makes me want a record player.

  • Homestuck brought me here.

  • Home with the milk in the morning.

  • One of my favorite songs of all time. Thank you, victrolaman.

  • Wow! I've found it; a video on youtube that ISN'T a huge waste of time, a good, informative video to boot, and one that contains a catchy song from 102 years ago!

I give you many props, sir.

  • I loled at the small typo at 2:57. Almost seems intentional, doesn't it? ;)

  • This song is incredibly catchy. After the Homestuck update with it in it, I found myself singing it in my head for days after. And now, after listening to it again, I will probably continue to. It really is amazing how well people could sing and play back then. It sort of makes me sad that now those who actually have talent are overlooked because of those who are popular and really don't, but at least we can continue to listen to gems like this. Thanks for uploading! :D

  • @PhantomSunsSong Thank you Phantom for your kind words. So glad you enjoyed the song and the wonderful Eddie Morton. Thank you for watching.

    Victrolaman

  • Who is this Douchebag!!!

  • This is really a great song, and your comment above about how this was played directly into a recording horn gives me a greater respect for the singer and his band.

I look forward to looking at some more of these thoughtfully recorded and subtitled videos.

Thank you for your work in bringing these excellent songs to a new generation of listeners who otherwise wouldn't have gotten the privilege.

  • Was this seriously released on April 13th, 1909? I am not that great with sarcasm actually

  • But in all due seriousness and ignoring my last comment, this is amazing, and a great song. You have a good quality camera, too, making this even better.

  • Who's this douchebag?

  • The part about making the robbers run actually made me laugh.

    Great song.

  • Watched it the first time because of Homestuck. Scratch that, first three times. Fourth time because damn that song it catchy. Fifth, I love the lyrics and wanted to hear the song again. Sixth, song was playing in my head all day. Seventh, eighth, ninth (etc...) I love this song.

  • Thanks for preserving history, and I'm actually really glad this song and the genre are getting recognized. Homestuck fans are a weird bunch, but a good bunch. A young bunch, generally, and it's great that a piece of history like this song is getting exposed and loved by the next generation.

  • This is pretty great! (Yeah Homestuck fan here too)

I have the clip that was used on my phone after buying the album hahaha.

  • Pretty good. I would be a member of the midnight crew too under other circumstances.

  • Andrew Hussie says:

"You are welcome, Victrolaman. Keep cranking out the classics!!!!!"

  • i can't stop listening to this song. It is amazing.

  • wow, i absolutley love this classic stuff! the music of tadoy is no comparison, a dissappointment really ^^;

but oh well, thank you so much for sharing this relic of origional recorded music with the public! <3

and thank you Andrew Hussie for being so kind as to make the refrence hahahah!

  • WHO'S THIS DOUCHE BAG

  • There are 612 favorites on this video, as of right now! Now if only we could get the comments up to 413...

  • Hussie responded to victrolaman's thanks.

"You are welcome, Victrolaman. Keep cranking out the classics!!!!!"

    formspring.me/mspadventures/q/184923408318897908

    Shoosh!

  • I'm happy to be reading Homestuck, otherwise I never would have found this awesome song :'D

  • Victrolaman is Lord English. IT ALL MAKES SENSE.

  • Dang! Hussie used his time travel device to make some truly EPIC viral crap...

  • This song is incredibly amusing! And awesome.

  • homestuck made me see this...... i would have liked it even without it being related to homestuck :D

  • i cant believe homestuck made me see this............ :D

  • Oh man, now I want to listen to all my grandmother's old records. The thought of listening to actual music from over a hundred years ago is just. Mindblowing. So awesome. Thank you so much!

  • ==> Be a member of the Midnight Crew.

  • I feel like such a hipster, when I saw this was on the new update my first reaction was OH MY GOD I HEARD THIS AGES AGO AND NOW EVERYONE'S GONNA KNOW ABOUT IT

    and then i wwas like

    wwhatevver

  • Like if Homestuck brought you here

  • >Riise with the moon

    why hello there sollux

  • I am also here because of Homestuck, and this is a pretty great song.

  • WHO'S THIS DOUCHEBAG

  • man this make me feel bad about my record player been broke, i really need to find a new needle for that thing

  • I am a teenager. I spend most of my time on the internet, or otherwise absorbed in modern technology. I have never had any interest in black and white movies, or anything that's been around for more than a few decades. But today I was linked here. And you know what?

I think this song is AWESOME.

  • This song is better than the crap they play on the radio today, like Lady GaGa and Justin Bieber. I love you for posting this, and I love Hussie for linking to it.

  • @epicfailasaurus This song of course was produced during the Acoustic AGE of recording when the instruments and singers, were playing and singing in front of a large Recording Horn !! that's correct a Horn, no microphone, no electricity no dubbing , no technical enhancing of the finished product. The quality of the recording depended entirely of the talent of the performer and his back up band. Electrically recorded sound did not enter the picture until early 1925 !! Pretty incredible HUH??

  • @victrolaman That is amazing, actually. :V

  • @victrolaman Heck yeah! It still sounds great, and it's like listening to a piece of history. :'D

  • @victrolaman Eh, it's nice to know they could do great things with little means, but i'd say the advances that were made in the last 100 years, overall, made for some pretty good music.

  • ThE tWo DiSlIkEs WeRe FrOm TeReZi. OnE fOr NoT kNoWiNg AnD oNe FoR nOt LiKiNg ThIs DoUcHeBaG. hOnK! :o)

  • I am simply amazed that this record is in such wonderful condition after 102 years. Not a single scratch or skip.

  • Good stuff. Great to see someone archiving all this older stuff that might fall out of the world otherwise.

  • An excellent song--I've been a fan of old ragtime/vaudeville stuff for some time, but had never heard of Eddie Morton until Homestuck made a reference to him.

  • @FortyTwoBlades Thank you so much for your comments. Also take the time to hear my other wonderful original Eddie Morton Selections here on the Victrolaman Channel. May I suggest "The Oceana Roll" and "You Ain't Talking to Me" both are complete with lyrics on the screen !! Enjoy exploring the Victrolman Channel and all of the Historic Recorded Classics it offers and have fun !!

    Victrolaman

  • Don't take the "Who is this douchebag?" comments to heart, it is just a reference to a line in the Homestuck comment. As the character who says it is an alien girl who doesn't know about Earth culture, so it's not really malicious in any way. :)

Just wanted to say, thanks again for uploading all this amazing music for us to enjoy. It's also nice how people like Andrew Hussie reference it, so more people can enjoy it, when they might not have known about it before. :)

  • Eddie Morton is quite obviously Lord English.

  • fuck yeah 612 likes!!!

  • Andrew Hussie is responsible for any and all strange comments on this video.
