  • É sempre lindo ver uma mulher tocando cello. Com esta vivacidade, então, é um primor.

  • And to think... the cello she plays in this clip is the same cello Yo Yo Ma now plays.

  • @ardlpn0423 Are you sure this is the 1712 Davidov Stradivarius?

  • @SystemicMusicality she had 2 stradivarius the 1673 the "du pre " and the 1712 davidov. she performed with the 1673 from 1961-1964 from then on with the davidov

  • It is a 'cello solo - the piano is an accompaniment! *sigh*

  • PRECIOSO...

  • Muito bom e toca o coração

  • Did anyone hear something weird at 0:59??? Man she is just (insert indescribable word of astonishment) lol. Her & Mischa Maisky :'D

  • I think the sarcastic comments are due to the word "solo" in the title when it's actually a duet.

  • @Contessamy Thank you!

  • excelente

  • HEY!! does any one know the name of this song???? I've been trying to play it by ear and I'm almost done but, people have been asking what its called but i don't know.

  • @cellomad1 You gave an answer for a question I didn´t ask, you didn´t get the question genius... And yeah, that's my problem, so why is that bothering you so hard? And you know what? To give attention to somethin' is not considered on the meaning of "follow" [that's according to dictionary DOTcom] so, you base your answer in a definition created by you? If you cannot back up what you say you ain't sh!t...

  • You guys do know that having a piano accompaniment isn't the same as being a cello/piano duet, right?

  • I'm doing a report on her for Music History.

  • imagine her having sex.... dear god

  • No, she isn't. Is Iris du Pre!

  • Music is beautiful. You can watch and listen nice music here on Youtube.

input Robert Rossi “Rain and you”. Enjoy.

  • Just incredibly incredible.AWESOME.

  • I´ll give OVER 9000 Dollars to have a seat at her concert when I am in heaven!

  • @StreetPerforming you maybe need less , you can kill yourself and see if she is where you go when you die , she is dead

  • @firedeathterror999 You're a real asshole.

  • one of the most tragic figures to classic, along with mozart and chopin she was taken too soon

  • wow, that's how it's done....by REALLY MEANING IT

  • I LOVE THIS WOMAN!

  • Her dynamic contrasts are amazing...and how she uses the bow is just...she is so wonderful!

  • que espactacular y eso que en mi vida e escuchado musica clasica pero esto es genial

  • Diese Frau war ein Geschenk Gottes an die Menschheit!

  • so beautiful to hear her playing, oh so beautiful !

  • this is gunna be me in like NEVER!! XD buh imma try to get close to her^_^

  • Why'd you have to die? God should've taken Bieber instead.

  • @Mintcubes Bieber's safe. God took Jackson! But i agree...huuuuuge loss for cello lovers

  • @Mintcubes Bieber wasn't alive when she died

  • @becijoy Oh, then how about now?

  • @Mintcubes you f@!k this video and this great artist with a comment with the name of Bieber.

    Sorry

  • @Mintcubes Her genes gave her MS, as you probably know. And Bieber isn't 42 yet.

  • @Mintcubes Nah bieber is being left for satan ;)

  • magnífica :)

  • I want to play like that with my cello:)

  • That sound... 0_o

  • Esto si es inspirador...

  • Esto si es ser virtuosa la amo :3

  • Beautiful....I could listen to this all day =]

  • It's as if the cello has a voice of its own. Quite different from any other cello player I've listened to. Whether I watch her, or not, I have that feeling. Awesome.

Someone wrote that Barenboim watched her jealously when she played the piano, yes I can believe that! It was both good for her to have been with him, and bad. Good for her career, bad for her personal life. Virtuosos are usually egocentric. ;)

  • AMAZING...........

  • she is so amazing.

  • You can't see it, but she's playing the piano with her feet!

  • @Zopilote LOL Actually, she was an outstanding pianist as well. I saw a video of her playing and her husband, Barenboim, was sitting next to her looking jealous. She was an incredible talent, RIP.

  • @Zopilote It would not surprise me that she can a bit of everything!

  • @Zopilote omg actually???

  • @Zopilote nope

  • @Zopilote What a stupid comment with more than sixty followers...

  • @OverhumanSV It's a joke. Lighten up.

  • @cellomad1 Did I say that I was taking it seriously? the fact that it's a joke doesn't make it less stupid...maybe more.

  • @OverhumanSV If you don't have a sense of humor, that's your problem. Keep your snooty attitude to yourself.

  • @cellomad1 If you don't like my snooty attitude it's your problem...I don't follow stupid comments and you can keep you stupidity to yourself too.

  • @OverhumanSV You say that you don't follow stupid comments, yet you replied to Zopilote's comment which you regarded as stupid. Nice contradiction.

  • @cellomad1 Do you know the meaning of the word "follow" ? As far as I know that's not a synonym for "mock of", "denounce" [Which is: to give formal notice of the denial of ] or "laugh at"...

  • @OverhumanSV the meaning of Follow: 1. Obey 2. Pursue 3. To keep one's attention fixed on 4. to go or come after.

That's what you were doing, hypocrite.

  • @cellomad1 How can I obey it when that's not an order? How can I pursue it if that's not a goal? I gave it a little attention, yes. How can I go or come after that comment if that's not an ideal? That's a stupid comment [Zopilote's one], period, if you got bothered by that it's maybe because you felt like I was talking to you, stupid.

  • @OverhumanSV That's right, you gave it some attention, which means you followed it. If you weren't following it, you would never have replied to it in the first place.

Take your humorless attitude and shove it. Also, take some Midol. It will help you feel better.

  • @cellomad1 hahaha since when "give attention to something" is following it? You didn't answer any one of my questions cellomad1...are you avoiding to answer them? How can I obey it when that's not an order? How can I pursue it if that's not a goal? How can I go or come after that comment if that's not an ideal? Everybody deserves a second chance, try to answer and convince instead of recommend me some medication doctor...hahaha [You got 5 questions to answer now]

  • @OverhumanSV I only put up those definitions for Follow to help educate you on its meaning. However, number 3: To keep one's attention fixed on, does apply to you. You even admitted that you gave it some attention. How is giving attention to something following it? It's right there in the definition of Follow: TO KEEP ONE'S ATTENTION FIXED ON. Got it, genius? If you don't like Zopilote's comment, that's your problem. I think he was just attesting to du Pre's incredible talent in a humorous way.

  • @cellomad1 lol

  • @Zopilote -lol

  • Lovely plating.TY x for sharing.

  • @Zopilote No way! Are you serious ?

  • I love you

  • This music is sexy!

there is no other way to put it

    THAT AIN'T RIGHT

  • @MrTwistking Twenty years from now: "Justin who?".

Jacqueline will be remembered for ages to come.

  • On comprends que Daniel BARENBOIM soit tombé amoureux de cette grande Dame du violoncelle.

  • he aqui la verdadera pasion por la musica.....la verdadera

  • does anyone know the maker and or history of this cello? Or is it just a 'workshop" instrument?

  • @geeceegee1 From the information I have, it's a 1673 Stradivarius. Today, it's known as the du Pre Stradivarius.

  • @cellomad1 Her Stradivarius is now in hands of Yo-Yo-Ma, he buyed it for something about 2 milions euros.

  • It makes me kind of depressed when i think about how, not only such talent was abruptly cut short, but also that she can't know about all the people now, who give her such praise, and even claim to be inspired by her. I'm sure she would be incredibly happy if she knew how many people appreciate her wonderful music, even today so many years later.

  • @tehloserisyou Hopefully, she's looking down from Heaven and sees all the inspiration she has given to so many people, including myself.

  • This girl named nina played this and she was 10 and I was like " YOU WERE GREAT" and she was like " Okay bye." and then she ran to her mom :((( i'm not a creep!

  • it's a sonata, it's a solo melody intrument with a piano. So it's still a solo.

  • Espectacular , gracias a los que hacn el esfuerzo de subir estas joyas

  • Beautiful!

  • Great

    thx for upload

  • What

    A

    Beast

  • I'm falling deeper in love with every note.

  • Comment avez-vous la chercher sur la vidéo?, J'ai regardé partout et je trouve coshe images?

  • Jaqueline du Pré é incomparável!

  • OMG. There's this book i have and there's a cellist named Jacqueline in it

  • Jacqueline made me want to play cello.

    I'm in infatuation

  • @Littlefoot3559 who gives a shit no one wants a wife like u either

  • Does anyone have any idea where i could find the sheet music for this piece?

  • Jesus, she was amazing. I always get sad when I watch her.

  • @Littlefoot3559 I would love a wife with that kind of talent.

  • @Littlefoot3559 dont want a wife like you.... she lookes beaufiful playing the cello

  • @Littlefoot3559 She's passionate, not crazy.

  • She was 17. So beautiful.

  • Who can dislike this video? Really?

  • This could have been good if she wasn't a cellist. /Troll.

  • She was absolutely wonderful ....exquisite. I wish the weak minded dolts would go watch some lady gag gag

  • I prefer her hair long :)

  • you can tell she is really getting into the music... isnt there a movie based on her?

  • @arvoreen73 Movie is Hilary & Jackie -- one of the few i've ever walked out of

  • @gobearsdrive OH, I KINDA LIKED THE MOVIE

  • She must have to restring her bows often...so much passion!

  • Why are you guys insulting her interpretation? If you don't appreciate her style of playing then don't waste your breath arguing about how you don't like her; none of us want to hear that.

  • oh crap she is good i need a cello to try to play this crap

  • Simply and clearly the best cellist ever. Her playing style is undoubtely personal, her passionate intensity so strong that sometimes, for today's ears, can apparently overshadow composer's intentions... but we have not to forget that her activity was (sadly) limited to sixties and beginning of seventies. And, of course, that she was a VER YOUNG player... her recordings took place before her 26th birthday, just imagine what she could've achieved if she could've played, for instance, till 50 y/o.

  • some day i really hope to be as good as her she is now my inspiration

  • well 15 people thought this was a duet . smhh

  • @shakeynah1 Duet or solo, does it really matter? It's just beautiful music. Picking it apart and over analyzing detracts from it.

  • she is such an inspiration to all cellist, including me :)

  • Beautiful, my idol!

  • she is amazing!

  • ..thank you for this!,..

  • she is so one dimesional. everything she plays is played the same way, she has no respect for what the composer wanted pieces to sound like

  • @fitzay32 wow you have no idea what you are talking about. It must be very easy for a random person such as yourself to log in and totally insult one of the most prolific and emotional cellists of all time. What have you done? What have you accomplished in the world of classical music? Do you have a Doctoral Degree in Musical composition? How about in Music Performance? Don't interpret that which you do not comprehend.

  • @raven35 Bravo and thank you!

  • @raven35 i have actually played this piece myself thank you very much, and as a matter of fact i am studying music performance. du Pre has no respect for the style of the composer of the piece she is playing, her bach music is quite frankly the same as her Elgar or her saint-seans. Yes she plays very passionately and with much emotion, but she has only one speed you could say which is 100 miles an hour, so as a consequence her music sounds very similar to say the least across all styles

  • @fitzay32 Actually, although I agree with you in that she plays most of the repertoire in the same manner, I have also played this piece, and this particular recording is in a reasonable style for this composer. To assume that only your "correct" adaptation is "right" is unnecessary. To add to that, Du pre understood music more than you or I (or possibly anyone) ever will, and her interpretation was her right to expression.

  • @fitzay32 You must be either deaf or have no knowledge in music to say that. Even tho you might have played this piece before, but you certainly will never, ever get close to her level of interpretation... "everything she plays si played the same way" How in hell can you be a musician and say this after listenning to the few videos of her on youtube?... "She has one speed" WHAAAT?! You're a cellist and you disrespect du pré?! What a dumb joke, what would u think of rostropovich speeding up?! sad

  • @TehStupidBish You cannot define what a good or right interpretation is. Music cannot so simply be exemplified by one persons playing style or analysis. Music is different for each person. All you people are sheep who rather than create you're own feeling and emotion through music you rely on someone else's, who may i say is an incredible cellist, however she did often did not follow the style. She treated say Romantic music and Baroque music the same when they are totally different

  • @TehStupidBish how could you say she her style was the same ? have to listened to all or her works. personally she is my favorite cellist ever. she understand music better then anyone could. and for being a cello player, this is amazing. the absolute best cellist in every way., but you are very wrong on your statements i'm sorry. you can creat you own emotion and creativity, but it has to be within a range, but it cant be too different or changed. it will sound hoarse or way to unrealistic.

  • @arod68993 I never said that, you probably didn't understand what i meant, the one i was answering to was thinking this, not me.

  • @TehStupidBish omg i am so sorry. that one guy is an idiot

  • @TehStupidBish i am so sorry . that other guys jis dumb

  • Bless you soul... It is people like you that make life better by leaving purity and beauty on earth before they leave...

  • Her bowing is so natural, I wish I had that sort of grace and control over my bow...

  • i was hopeing this was without the piano

  • she so passionate in her playing

  • Justin Beiber Ur The Greates Of All Time! AAAH! *rip off my jacket and detonate a bomb*.

  • Je suis d' accord avec toi, le violoncelle de Jacqueline du Pré est emplie d' une profondeur et d' une âme que je n' ai jamais entendu ailleurs. Paix à son âme.

  • Seriously, who could possibly dislike such a video? Like, really?

  • 13 people are beliebers. -__-

  • @Daniel8978662 Wow please shut the fuck up

  • I really love how Jacqueline du Pre plays the cello...She's much better than Yo-Yo Ma, in my opinion.

  • preciosoo!!!!!!!!!!

  • She was just eighteen years old!

  • She was just eighteen years old! To play with such power, passion, skill, self-forgetfulness and judgement at eighteen..

  • How is it that the majority of comments here are about rather or not this is a solo, rather than about the incredible skill, passion, and emotion with which this woman plays? This performance is incredible and moving - who cares about the semantics of the word 'solo'?

  • Maybe the woman is her mother. Mothers do this for love.

  • im 10 years old and i mastered this on the cello last year!!!!!

  • @RedSkittles0304 good for you ;)

  • @RedSkittles0304 : Well, the notes are not that hard - but to play it like that is. There is more to music than just playing the written notes. You "mastered" it? Cool. Load it up.

  • there is something very sexy when a woman plays a cello..

  • And yes this is a solo ahahaha.

And I know what Im talking about XDa

  • It is NOT a duet, it is a solo, as stated, with piano accompaniment. Many instrumental solos have piano accompaniment if that was the composer's intention. All the comments complaining that this is not a solo are an annoying distraction. Do you go to see a soloist with a symphony and stand up and complain that they are not a soloist?

  • @MissMeowsic Great argument but "soloist with a symphony" ; that is actually not considered a solo, it's called a "concerto". Look in the related videos, "Yo-Yo Ma: Elgar Cello Concerto, 1st mvmt" - That is an example of a concerto.

  • @CallOFDutyMVP666 It does depend on what the arrangement includes, but if you were to look at the actual sheet music, it usually indicates which part is solo, and the rest is considered accompaniment. As a pianist I accompany clarinet, trumpet, cello, viola solos, etc. all the time. It just means most of the time the solo part carries most of the melody and is more prevalent. In this particular piece it is obvious that the cello part is out front.

  • @MissMeowsic

So what's the difference between a solo with accompaniment and a duet?

(not being sarcastic I just don't know)

  • @Cocoaplata An accompaniment is more or less an extra part written to provide chords or depth to the music and a duet is where two players share the melody and have similar or alternating parts. Pretty much an accompaniment is boring and is just there for back up whereas a duet is like a solo shared between players.

  • @CallMeHozay

I think I just leveled up in music appreciation

    Thanks!

  • @Cocoaplata i'm gonna do my best to explain in english :P

Basicly, the accompaniment isn't a part of the melody, it's an acompaniment, nothing more, it adds to the song without defining it. in a duet, both of the musicians are called to play a song that would have no meaning without the other part. :x

  • @MissMeowsic I have to agree. People shouldn't be so offended when someone calls something "accompaniment." Just because the piano is accompanying the cello, doesn't mean it's not important. But no matter how hard you argue it IS accompaniment people, this is not a duet.

  • @MissMeowsic You are so utterly wrong I can't believe how many likes you have! Brahms himself claimed that his violin sonatas were sonatas for piano with a little violin. Please, General Public, don't be confused, piano may be 'accompaniment,' but really in many works are as important and more important than the solo instrument - mainly due to the fact most composers played the piano extrodinary well.

  • @wagneristhebest that just means Brahms' sonatas are an exception to the rule and it's a violin accompaniment I should think, there's no use getting mad about it- just enjoy the music for crying out loud!!

  • @LimpCamel I would but for the amount of likes! How misguided the General Public are by this comment!
