This is really hard to watch. Next time this happens turn on the hot water in the shower and close the bathroom door for 10 minutes til it gets steamy in there then take that sweet child of yours and bring her in there with you. Let her breathe in the moist air she will immediately get better. I'm a nursing student and my professor told me that remedy. Hospitalization or er doesn't really do much with croup.
in all honesty yes this is good and all. but it kinda pisses me off that your child is having that much difficulty breathing and you are standing there watching. also noticed the child's lips are turning blue. so i hope the video was cut short and child was rushed to the hospital because my daughter was admitted to the hospital for breathing exactly like your child is. and i really hope your child survived.
@beckyNadi No need to be so hateful. Pretty sure the child survived given the upload. This is really helpful to parents that aren't sure what to listen for or tell a doctor if they can't get in, & some ERs expose children to even more bugs. Also, it is good the child could get some rest to allow her immune system to fight the illness. Given the clear diagnostic indications noted, it appears that the child is under good medical supervision & the parent filming was obviously watching her closely.
thank u for uploading! i've been trying to hear a good example of the "barking seal" cough and they are all so vague, like regular coughs and both of my kids are sick, now I know what to listen for!
thank you for sharing this...this morning my son suddenly coughing with sound like barking seal, He has no other symptoms before this, so quite shocking to hear the coughing... I want to ask, before your daughter got hospitalized for how long she's coughing n breathing like this?at the beginning she start barking coughing or she has other symptomps?thank you so so much
Thank you for sharing this! My son has been coughing horribly and I was concerned about croup. This video has shown me what to watch for and what exactly it looks and sounds like.
@Tholius This child has significant inspitatory stridor ,but dosn't have expiratory stridor.. stridor is seen only in the inspiration.. not expiration.. what is heard on expiration is wheeze.. LARINGIOTRACHEOBRONCHITIS.. CROUP.! !
Very informative video. You can really see the retractions in this video, hear stridor, and the "barking" cough. I'm going to show the folks in my nursing class this. Those dummies they have does show the real thing.
@mrsahillman Most Croup patients can be managed at home. Only in serious illness u need to be hospitalized. but.. diagnosis must be done by a doctor (most times they will instruct the patient to be home where the patient wud acutally be more safer from OTHER bugs)
I'm reviewing or an exam on physical assessment with chest and lungs. I've never seen a patient with croup as this is common in children from 1 1/2 -3 years old. I've always had adults/geriatric in my clinical experience. This is invaluable information. Thank you for sharing!
Thank you so much for sharing this valuable information for chiropractors like us! I'm learning microbiology and I am documenting on paramyxoviruses and influenza type 1 and 2 and they were talking about croup. This is such a valuable video :)
well done! i am a pediatrician who has been away from general practice for a few years - this is an excellent example of the inspiratory stridor and barking cough seen in croup. thank you for posting, and hope your daughter is doing well
another med student here saying "Thanks" for uploading. not just helpful while studying for this exam; also helpful in reminding me why i'm in school in the first place
having the croup in november of 2010 every breath that i inhaled and exhaled was exscruciatingly painful i slept the rest of the night on my sofa sitting up it was very uncomfortable
I'm a medical student who's seen croup several times while on my shifts in A&E, but despite that it's really helpful to hear the stridor again (revising for my finals). Thank you for the upload. I imagine that many of my colleagues would find this really helpful.
Thanks for this!

So my question is, would you be taking you daughter to the ER for those symptoms? or are they minimal enough to keep her home.

Yes the video is helpful but this poor child should be in the hospital. Not suffering to be the star of his parents video
bizzymomma8 4 months ago
Shouldn't she be given help?
Sisiyingying 4 months ago
@Sisiyingying Croup patients rely on management at home (mostly) Hospitalization don't help them unless they are in dire need for it.
