a few months ago,my local radio station started playing this periodically. I'd heard it a few years back and thought it was awesome! I wanted to find it, but the radio station NEVER announced the artist or track and every time I turned on the radio, It was halfway finished, so it was pointless to get a blank tape (yes, i still use tapes at 17 years old because they're cool) and record the end. After a long search with a familiar voice, I found it. Thanks for Posting it!
If I'm not mistaken a-b-a-c-a-b is a manner in which poetry is written.First two lines do not rhyme, third rhymes with first, fourth doesn't rhyme ,and last two rhyme with first two.I can't remember what it's called, but junior hgh was a long time ago!
You Haven't figured it out aye?? "ABACAB" are the musical notes that make up the song. Simple yes but still a killer tune. Whatelse would you expect from such Music Masters as these cats. Blessed That I grew up with them...Yes even when Gabriel was front man...Shit did I just show my age
@LordDarkShadow65 According to Wikipedia: "Guitarist Mike Rutherford explained in an interview that the band labeled various sections of the song with letters of the alphabet, and at one point the sections were ordered A-B-A-C-A-B. Rutherford commented that the completed song no longer followed this format, but the name was kept nevertheless."
@christopheclugston It's not actually the structure of the song. It was originally going to be the structure but what they ended up with couldn't be pronounced as a word so they stuck with Abacab.

@supastar7 here in all placed salt lake city we have lots of em. come visit sometime this place gets a bad rap cuz of the mormon history but is a kick ass place. i know in most of the east coast they throw you in jail for weed, here just a ticket!
Phil Collins at his best. When his name is mentioned, most people think of ballads and movie soundtracks. This reminds me of how strong a vocalist he really was. I still can't figure out how he was able to drum and sing at the same time. A la Don Henley.
@briangpz When Phil Collins toured with Genesis, he didn't play and sing at the same time very much at all. Drumming was handled by Chester Thompson, who also played drum for Phil in his solo tours. Genesis was a 5-man tour, usually with Banks/ Rutheford/ Collins / Thompson and guitarist Daryl Stuermer.
Genesis is/was 2 very different and distinct sounding bands:one fronted by Collins who has the better voice and one by Gabriel who had the vision, both of which are far superior to anything out there now, I mean really for all intents and purposes ROCK IS DEAD! ;o)
@zzzxxyy it's about feeling guilty for doing something wrong and feeling paranoid about being discovered also abacab was the original music orginization for this song, they changed it to this but the name stuck.
The ping decay on that ride cymbal is hypnotic (only drummers can truly appreciate the reference). Abacab will always be my favorite gateway drug to the 1980's. Simply fantastic...
Phil Collins in my own mind is under appreciated, i think he is a musical genius. I'm so thankful of my mother who introduced me to this music at such an early age. I'm not the best guitarist or musician in the world. But im thankful i have knowledge of wonderful and eccentric type of music. Thank you Phil Collins for driving me to be a better musician and with your music a better person.
I forgot how good of an album this was. It's amazing how music can make you remember, as soon as I heard the opening notes I was rushed with thoughts of being 18 and all that happened in those years, all from a few notes. I remember the 80's fondly. Great music and I'll give the obligatory, "they don't make music like this any more"......now get off my lawn! *waves fist at the young punks*
@trentonecv i think chet is in their touring band not on the album.i could be wrong though. im positive that this is phil on drums. theres no losers here only good people enjoying great rock !!!!!

I always hated hearing this song on regular radio because they would cut out the long outro...

@Vistico93 Ya know, the local station here does that too... In fact, this is my first time hearing the long outro.
