  • oh thank god your video was here >.< i couldn't open my dvd of dynamo the magician... i was like... well played dynamo, well played XD i cut my finger whilst trying to open it but yay! at least it's open now XD thank yoooou <3

  • Cheers Mate my pliers did the job!

  • i dont have pliers.... what 13 year old girl would ? :L but i tried to get the disc out with my hands.. failed... but ended up with some sore welts all over my knuckles .... *sigh* back to the shop tomorrow @_@

  • Thanks so much! Had a bit of trouble as the square bit broke and had to do it internally, but managed. THAAAANKKSSS :)

  • Thanks for the vid dude saved me wasting my time going back to the shop! that first bit i grabbed snapped but i just pulled it out by the pointy end of the strip. Thanks again!

  • Won't just pulling the strip out like that break the discs inside?

  • Of course you're intention is not promoting theft but this video cracks the security code which IS promoting it and increasing theft rates in retail stores across the globe. My concern is that this encourages thieves to take tools, screw drivers and even knives into environments which are not acceptable. This has and does lead to dangerous situations once the thief has been apprehended by staff in store. Thanks for you help, but think of the bigger picture here.

  • @neilcbc9799 lol... who has time to sit there in the middle of a shop and fiddle about with pliers and shizz... geez he's not promoting theft... he's just helping people out so they don't have to go back to the shop... ^_^ <3

  • What do I do if I've already pried the case open with a knife and can't get it to close again?

  • @mindeater101 hahaha

  • THANKS FOR THE VIDEO MAN> IT WORKED FIRST TIME FOR ME VERY HAPPY!!

  • Thanks for the video, really helped me out!

  • easier to just use a razor blade on the spine, opens up case, take dvd out, leave empty box on shelf, go home, watch dvd. Return the next day :-)

  • that's not even a screwdriver its a conductivity tester...fail

  • @duhjuh no its a screwdriver with a conductivity tester built in...derp

  • @GOODBADNAUGHTYWOLF ok i guess if you really wanna use it for that ..although i wouldnt recomend it..they crack easy..but im sure its fine for this purpose..keep up the videos ...good luck youtubing...been nice arguing with you lol...have fun with yourself

  • Absolutely rediculous, just to get a bloody box open !!!!!

  • saved me from rummaging through the bins for my reciept

  • Booooyaaaa! Many thanks for the video. We were so pissed to discover that those bastards left the "security" tag on. Security fail!

  • can you do this with magnets ?

  • thankyou sooooo much stupid hmv left it on ps wiggling helps instead of just pulling because it damages the case if the pliers lose the grip on the tag :)

  • Thank you, you were the only tutorial that actually helped me, although I caused a slight damage to the case. But oh well I can now watch my film :) x

  • whats the red thing say on the DVD side I saw some white stickers on it?

  • Awesome! Thank you. :) My boyfriends birthday has been saved! ^_^

  • bloody dodgy market people sold us all our dvds with the locks still in em.. UR A LIFE SAVER

  • alas i found this video too late, i cracked the box trying to get to the precious cargo...

there are magnets inside the red tag, is there a way to harness the power of magnetism to crack the redtag.

PS i think ill find a unused box to replace the current one. though the crack is small.

  • very nice tutorial! so detailed (:

  • a way i did was drill the bottom on the red tag.with the drill so far in it made the tag pop out easy.the company who make them tryed everything even putting abit of metal behind the red bit.but they over looked that if you get a small drill and drill down in the one corner as soon as the drill hits the metal inside it pops out.i had 5 dvds sent to me with these things in them so from brakeing open a case a while ago i knew how the tag worked.

  • is that a nickle on your necklace?

  • Nah, it's a silver coin with a wolf on it.

  • Bought 2 DVDs at HMV in London. The f*cking counter staff forgot to remove the tags, and I didn't notice until I arrived in Spain, where I live. Of course, we don't have these useless s*it down there (nor ways to remove them), so I had to break the cases, even though I tried using this method.

If you end up breaking them, just take the Manual and all that good stuff and use another case. Too bad the one I was was the Orange Box.

  • Yeah thats always a good way, this is my only time I have had this problem and it was late at night so I thought I would give it a bash.

  • ahhhh, I tried this, but I only ripped off the head of the tag. It was very complicated in the end, but I got it off, lol

  • lol, I have found that there are a few different kinda tags. They all look the same but I mine was really hard and no way could I break the head off so it wouldn't surprise me if some were slightly different.

  • Imagine my nightmare when I bought a DVD from Zavvi and didn't bother opening it until about a day ago and OMG there is no more Zavvi to take the DVD back to!!!!! aaarrrgggghhhh

I never thought of the pliers though

  • Oh yes I feel your pain as that almost happened to me as well, bought a load of stuff from them in the closing down sale...like some nice headphones and now their bust ...and so are they!

  • I brought JCVD today from TESCO without realising that it even had a red tag until i got home. Thank you for this video!

Btw i dont think anyones noticed its a girl in the video :)

  • lol, Nah i'm a guy, now and then you can notice my beard when I bob my head down, I just have really long hair that I normally tie up.

  • Thanks mate, i got a new game as a birthday present and it still had that attached, thanks for the vid , i can finnally play it now lol

  • No worries. Just glad you didn't have to tear the box in two.

  • Thanks!

  • No problem.

  • just use two magnets, one strong one, rare earth should be strong enough, to pull the catch by placing it on the side of the case near the top of the tag, and then use another one, less strong, to pull the tag out, doesn't even require any force. I had to do it this evening and works a treat.

  • Yeah i've heard of that way of doing it as well, I didn't have any magnets to had so I came up with this way (by accident more than anything) but there is no reason why that shouldn't work seems that the red bar as tiny metal pieces standing up to stop its removal, pull those down with a magnet and boom, falls straight out.

  • u can u a butter knife to pry it out

  • Anything long and flat really.
