  • I could listen to Paul Gross' voice for hours.

  • In my next life I'm going to be a fisherman or a farmer.

  • Winning combo : great-singing great-looking Paul Gross and splendid Stan Rogers song. And yeah -- the yipping DOES make me think of Dief! Thank you kindly for this vid.

  • Thank you kindly for uploading this awesome clip. You don't have to be a guy or a Canadian to love this music : I'm a female Chicagoan and I love it (also love Due South, also love Paul Gross, also love Paul Gross SINGING). Maybe the yipping thing is so wolfdogs can sing along (yay, Dief).

  • @AimingForVegan It's always great to hear that people outside Canada love this show. The first time I saw an episode I was 14, years after the show had ended. At that time I assumed only Canadians knew about it or watched it. I was surprised to find there was great love for it in the UK, America and tons of other countries. There's even conventions for it in Toronto which is really cool!

  • Have found some great info re this song in an online article ... ignoring for a moment, if i may, the main point for watching this clip, which of course is Paul Gross's lovely singing! ,-)

    Article is:

'Is the Stan Rogers song "Barrett's Privateers" true?'

    & the URL is at:

    chebucto.ns.ca/~jacktar/barretts.html

  • Could it get any better? Canada's sexiest man sings one of Canada's greatest song. I think I'm turned on

  • @zappakitten I second your comment! Sexy sexy sexy man!

  • I love when he sings too. He's sexy anyway!

  • Oh I just love it when Paul Gross sings! Ha ha in the bloopers he starts to sing the song too high and just sings, "I'm Way Too F*cking High To Sing This Song!" So Cute! ^.^ Thanks for Posting!

  • How to tell you've been listening to a song "too much" - when you've never seen the lyrics yet can sing them almost perfectly. Not that it's possible to listen to this song too much, it's that awesome. :)

  • lol just like benny to get practically the whole ship singing XD :)

  • I just had a Canadagasm!

  • What better than to have Benton Fraser singing Stan Rogers' music!

  • Ya see... I've been drinking.

LMAO! I love you, Kowalksi. :3

  • god, that sweater is sexy.

    lol

  • They should have a due south movie

  • There was. It preceded the series.

  • They need to do another, I agree.

  • @acinorevmai Well, the pilot effectively was a movie.

  • @acinorevmai well the pilot episode was a made-for-tv-move and the rating we're so good the decided to make it a series, so in a way, they did.

  • @TheNima55 In Britain, they split the pilot into a two-parter, so we haven't had a 'movie' yet!

They are currently repeating series 1 in the UK, and it's making me want another series, to see what's happened to Benton and Ray now...

  • @acinorevmai actually they were going to , but couldn't get funding and the man that played Vechhico was already under contract somewhere else and couldn't get away .

  • Halifax? Went there, drop dead boring city!

XD but at least I adore this show + Paul Gross + Benton Fraser

  • Wonderful! Thanks for this from Due South episode Mounty on the Bounty--a great sea shanty! And Paul Gross et al are not hard on the eyes!

  • Not to be morbid, but I have asked that this be sung at my funeral. Hope it's not for a few decades and I hope somebody still remembers all the words!

  • Considering you hear it alot in the CF, it'll probably live on for a long time. :)

  • Neat idea!

  • Isn't this from Mutiny on the Bounty, not Mountie on the Bounty? Great song, great video!

  • willspear wot

  • Will, I think its from the show Due South, about a Canadian Mountie...and the episode was called Mountie on the Bounty

  • Fan of Paul Gross singing as well. Love (23 down on) The Robert Mackenzie.

  • 32 down =)

  • thanks for postin' that.

  • anyone who is a bluenoser or a caper know this song word for word or if they walk right in the middle of her they pick it up where it is

  • i was born in Nova Scotia & this song is one of my favorties.... It's such a good drinking and partying song... at my cousins wedding in Toronto we sang this and ALL the Nova Scotia ppl there stood up and sang/yelled it out it was such a treat!!!

  • brilliant

  • Hey all you NS denziens... I'm a Newfie (by blood though and though I live there I was born in Alberta) anyway fuckit... we sing the shit out of this sometimes. This song rules!

For other drinkin' songs check out Roger Miller... but again Barret's Privateers rules D:

  • Ohhh how I love this song :) Yay for Nova Scotia

  • Great song! You really could just start singing this anywhere in Halifax & have random strangers join in!

  • I love when Paul Gross sings!

  • epic! fucking epic!

  • its not a man thing, I love this song as well.

  • Only thing I don't really get is the barking/yipping thing. Sounds like a terrier getting stepped on.

  • I love this song - is it a man thing? I bet women don't get this stuff.

  • Nah, I'm a girl and I love Stan Rogers. I first learned Barrett's Privateers at a pub in St. John's, which seems the perfect venue. Of course it doesn't sound as cool when sung by a girl. *lol*

  • how is it a man thing? i love this song too and i get it.

  • I'm also a girl and I love a great deal of his songs, even though he died nearly a year before I was born. Heard about him from this show as I'm (sadly) American.

  • Also a girl, love the song.

  • Also a girl and love Stan's songs. Sea shanties are my favorite and stan wrote some of the best

  • I bet you'd be wrong! I'm a woman, and you can't be from Nova Scotia and without knowing and loving this song!

  • Excellent stuff. I just finished 20-years in the Forces, and have heard Stan's songs sung everywhere from CFS Alert in the high arctic, to Bosnia, Haiti, to Afghanistan. Everywhere, Canadian soldiers would be quick to join in, and always the allied soldiers would ask "wow - who sings that" and we'd stick out our chest and say "those are Canadian songs." Thanks Stan, your music follows us everywhere and reminds us of home!

  • Love it, Love Due South, my favorite TV series, wish they do another! Pauls a great musicsion too!

  • Great clip! I had no idea Paul could sing so well. Never saw that episode. Thanks for posting it.

  • He's got two cd's and they're very good! look him up on youtube just type Paul Gross and his music videos will come up

  • Search Paul Gross sings for some of his great songs he has done with David Keeley my fave has to be "Secret in her eyes" He has an AMAZING voice

  • indeed.

  • thank you kindly!

  • "I'll just circumnavigate myself up this way..."

    AWESOME!!!

  • i love this song have looked everywhere for it just love the barking in the background " god damn them all" ruff

  • Look for Stan Rogers "Home in Halifax" CD for this song.

  • The great thing about this is it's pretty much the same vocal arrangement as Stan Rogers' version.

  • great song

  • Great ep. All about friendship - great ep.

  • "Mountie on The Bounty" Is my favorite episode of DS. And this clip along with the "Robert Mackenzie" song is proof.

  • Miss that show.

  • love it!!!
