I have had two trucks of that generation, the first was a 1984 F-150 302 2bbl. V8 with a C-6 4x2, not the prettiest truck, but she stuck around for 430,000 miles without a rebuild, it did smoke a bit until it warmed up, and ran even with a cracked block.

The second is a 1985 F-150 302 FI with a AOD 4x2, that truck was well taken care of by it's first owner, and has 500,000 miles on it, with a major rebuild from the wheels up in 1999.

Still looks good and turns heads.

I had a broncho 2. it was a good truck. short wheel base 4 wd is really fun on mud. I loved my Broncho. It's nowhere as ugly as that cube thing that the Japanease are selling, or the prius, or the aztec, or the ram for that matter

I've owned a '74 F-100, a 86 Broncho 2, a '94 Ranger, an '05 F-150, & a'92 F-150. never had any trouble with any of them, they just run, & run, & run no matter how rough you are with them. had 2 chevys, a dodge, & a datsun. they all sucked. always having to fix something. the dodge would drop the tranny every other day, the chevys had clutch problems, & terrible brakes. & the datsun. well... Datsun must be Japanease for shit.

a 1974 Datsun 410 the steering box broke loose & the steer wheels locked hard right. sent the car into a skid & the car rolled over 5 times. killed my best friend & left me with a concussion. never owned a Japanease car since.

It may be the best selling company for 35 years, but think about it this way. If their vehicles keep breaking down, then eventually the drivers will stop fixing them and 'upgrade' to a new truck. Simple economics; one thing breaks beyond repair, buy a new one.

Ford is a great example.
