I was there at DOncaster as she flew through, it was billiant to see an engne at speed, working as it would have done in the 1930's. A brilliant video.
@mickysmith1230 Thank you. On the video we did of it later in the day on the return run, Bittern seemed to be running even faster :-) Awesome sight. Long may she run, & a big thank you to all those involved in keeping her going.
Yes, think the 2nd tender is what was built for the Flying Scotsman in the 1960's. You'll see later in this series Bittern on it's return & running nuch faster :-). Cheers.
hi xjabi if you want to find out info for steam charters and those bittern will be running. may i sugest you type into your search engine "steam tours 2009" this website will tell you everything you need to know
hi ay76 excelent video there. it's better than what i managed to get
Hi jules, Got another one to upload tomorrow, er then again looking at the clock today now, on it's return run. It seemed to be running even faster. cheers.
Just like September 2008 all over again, albeit with a second tender! Possibly the third time we've ever seen a preserved loco with extra water capacity? They'll be making a second tender for Tornado next (wishful thinking, but you never know)... LOL!
It is very unusual. The Tender was originally built for Flying Scotsman in the 60s, when it was hauling frequent mainline tours at the end of steam, and all the water troughs and towers had been taken down, so they had an extra tender for water so they could run longer distances without needing to fill up, as the water towers were few and far between.
A4s require alot of coal to reach speeds like this, so coz no wear to get coal along her route, two tenders are required but only A4s can attach two tenders.
can't wait to see you post her in the Dominion of New Zealand colours?
