  • They certainly are cute, and must make very good pets. I was wondering, if you let them fly freely around your house, can you train them to poop in a certain place, and not all over the house?

  • @NancyHey Yes they are very loyal and friendly birds. I do let them fly freely but yes, on the rare occasion because the do poop quite frequently but they just love to fly freely and look out the window. Not sure if you can train them to poop in a certain place though - good question. I found that when they have had enough they will usually fly back to their cage themselves. They are extremely beautiful when they fly and open their wings too - very graceful birds. Thanks for stopping!

  • @Brenniman65 You're welcome. Another question, are they as affectionate with humans as they are with each other, for example, can you get them to sit on your shoulder the way a parakeet would?

  • @NancyHey Absolutely. All I do is put two fingers by their bellow and gently press upwards and they'll perch on your finger and follow you around till they decide to stretch their wings and fly a little. I found that they love to have a little exercise. I found my two doves love to perch around a window and look outside too or if you put a Youtube video of other doves cooing their heads bob all over the place looking for the other doves. :-)

  • @Brenniman65 Sorry... Not their BELLOW but their BELLY lol...

  • @Brenniman65 LOL! :)

  • @Brenniman65 Well, that's really sweet! Yes, that must be quite amusing watching them watch other doves on YouTube!

  • @Brenniman65 I'll bet their feathers are very soft to the touch also!

  • @NancyHey Yes their feathers are very soft but delicate. The only disadvantage I found is that they love to clean their feathers and also shed them which makes for quite a bit of passing the broom or vacuum cleaner. With both doves shedding you can practically "build" yourself a new one with the accumulated feathers LOL.

  • I found out from the bird shop how to tel a male from a female. You have to reach under their body at the bottom of the stomach, above the butt area. With your finger push up gently, if you feel 2 cartilages and you put finger in between, it's a female. If you touch and there is only one cartilage then it's a boy

  • @sndpapr1 That's very interesting and the first time I hear of that method. I found that most of the pet shop employees don't even seem to know how to tell the difference themselves. Thanks for the info and stopping by!

  • Beautiful. :) I have a diamond dove (unfortunately, her mate suffered a bad fate). She's been depressed, and doesn't coo often, but when she does, it's the most beautiful sound in the world. I hope I can at least find her another diamond dove buddy if not a mate. I hate seeing her depressed. :(

  • @hylianprincess7 Yes doves are extremely loyal birds and I've read that they actually can get depressed after losing a mate. They do come around though as I had to get another mate for the female dove in this video and she adapted quite nicely. Thanks for stopping by and commenting.

  • @Brenniman65 And thank you for replying. :) Have a nice time!

  • Do they ever breed

  • @msilver1210 I think that in this video they were too young to breed.

  • It's a white ring neck dove that is the marking on the neck . =)

  • We had one show up at our house the other day. Flew down from the tree and walked right to me. We watched it and set out food and water for a couple days. It flew away one night but came back the next morning, so we brought in inside. It's doing really well, it's pretty tame.

How can you tell if it is male or female? It cooed once outside but that's it.

  • @sahmx2 For birds, it is very hard to tell genders apart. The only way you can really tell is by differences in coloring or behavior. Most doves have no sexual dichromatism, meaning, males and females are colored the same. The only way to tell is if it lays eggs or "bow coos". That's sweet that the bird loves you so!

  • who can tell me how many white breads are they and how many miles do they travel?

  • wat happened to its neck??

  • @T3Cful Not really sure what happened to his neck. When I got him he was like that and he always stayed that way. Kind of strange. Asked about it at a pet shop and they weren't even sure themselves.

  • My father released my white dove a few weeks ago..It was so hard letting her go and she was so adorable...I miss her so much, her name was Spirit.

  • @xXSidBoyXx I'm really sorry to hear that your father released your white dove. Was there any special reason why he wanted to get rid of her? I hope that you will be able to get another one sometime.

  • @Brenniman65 He felt that a birds place wasn't in a cage, he's a very wise man and wanted her to taste freedom and move on. I pray that Spirit is ok, I believe God will take good care of her.

  • @xXSidBoyXx Do you mean he gave her to someone else or actually released her into the wild? For these doves it's actually really dangerous to release them because they are domesticated and have no chance of survival in the wild. I'm sorry you lost her. I have a female too, and I can't imagine giving her up. :(

  • I dont own any, i do have two parrotlets, and feed lots of garden birds who I keep an eye on in my garden, the doves will always be my favorites and there have been 2 pairs of them visiting the garden every day for food, which we make sure theres plenty of..

  • I have 4 that come into my garden to feed..They really are so beautiful and i could listen to the for hours..

  • @alibopdingding Thanks for stopping by and the comments. I agree that their cooing is so gentle and relaxing that you can just lose yourself in the calmness of listening to them. Do you own any doves?

  • @alibopdingding Thanks for sharing that with me. I can imagine that it must be very relaxing to hear them cooing in the garden. The two I own certainly know how to make themselves loved and they are so incredibly gentle too. My two doves go wild for white, cooked spaghetti LOL.

  • hello how are you today ? how can i tell if bella is a boy or gril i been calling her bella since i got her she has no ring around her neck like your female but dose that mean she is a male or female ?

  • Ladybutterly, We can't really tell by the ring around the neck. I have both male and female doves who have a ring around the neck. Do you have two doves or more? Usueally a male dove will do a bow and coo ritual to try to impress the female and that's a sure and simple way to know if it is a male.

  • i only have one which i found out that she is actually a she

  • Great. How did you find out that she is actually a she?

  • i was making my dove named "Love" talk and feel all happy with your video ^^

  • Glad to see my doves are making your dove happy. :-) They seem to love to hear other doves cooing and giggling. I play videos of other doves so my doves can hear them sometimes too and they perk right up and get all happy trying to see where the other doves are coming from. They are such gracious birds. Thanks for the comment.

  • bella just loves when i play this video and yes i have been trying to find her a mate but none of the pet stores where i live carries doves so it is very hard to try to find her a mate

  • They're so cute, they remind me of my doves, i also have to white doves a male and female, the male is named Chicken and the female Mama. Chicken is such a pain, he has to be in everyone's personal items just so he can coo on them lol

  • Thanks for visiting and commenting. I know exactly what you mean. My male dove is quite a character also, making funny coo noises for attention too. They certainly know how to make you love them.

  • lmfaooooo yeah they really do

  • Your doves are adorable!!

  • Thank you for adding a comment. They are such gracious birds and they're still doing very well. They've had a few babies since posting that video and the babies are simply adorable too. :-D

  • What a cute coo! He's so cute!

  • Thanks for visiting and the reply. Yes, they really are cute and their coo is so soft and calming. They've had a few batches of babies since that posting too and are still doing well.

  • i have a dove she is about 3 or 4 yrs old her name is bella short for isabella my mother named her she stopped cooing when my mom passed away 3 yrs ago just for bout 3 months but no she is cooing again

  • Thank you for visiting my video and commenting. Yes, I have studied these gorgeous birds and read so much about how loyal they are. I'm not surprised that your dove, Bella, reacted in this manner. I hope she is doing much better now. Did you ever think to find her a male dove companion? They love to live together and are so loyal towards each other also.

  • They're beautiful. I hope to add some doves to our family. One question though...Do they constantly make noises? My keets are quiet a lot of the time but sometimes they are so loud I can't hear the TV. My Cockatiel only makes noise when she hisses at me. She hates me. She only likes my husband :)
