Dozens of newsletters with Ron Paul’s name in the title were published and thousands of articles were written by all manner of writers coming from all manner of different viewpoints, some legitimate, some not. Two things. First, there weren't racist articles in these newsletters. Tiny excerpts within an article of a newsletter (out of presumably hundreds of them) have been blown massively out of proportion and labeled as "racist," which itself is a vague and essentially discredited term because it's been so watered down through overuse. And second, comparing the oversight of a newsletter to being president of the country is an utterly absurd comparison. Try again.

Lew Rockwell probably wrote most of the newsletters, and while Ron Paul might not agree with all the content, he did allow it to happen for quite some time. (It's simply not likely that these popular newsletters were published for so long without him knowing.) Nobody should think that this denial is 100% honest.

On this issue Ron certainly doesn't want to deal with it anymore, but the bulk of his believes are against both republicans and democrats. So he constantly has had to defend himself with significant opposition. To say he can't hand the heat doesn't seem too logical to me.
He is far from racist. He believes each person should be treated equally based on the content of their character and under the rights outlined in the Constitution and Bill of Rights. You can say he's whatever all day long, but it doesnt make it true. It does make you guilty of slander, however.
Still though, if something incredibly offensive was posted under my name, I would not only disassociate myself from the newsletter, I'd want to find out who is responsible and call them out on it. Ron Paul hasn't done the latter I can only assume he isn't wholly offended by what was written in that paper. His reaction was logical, but not emotional. I think that lack of empathy is what is unnerving about all this and why it's hardly unfair for reporters to keep questioning him about it.
It's not that Ron Paul is racist, it's just that like many of us he has moral blind spots and is ignorant of why something might be offensive until it's demonstrated to him. For example his opposition to a civil rights bill isn't necessarily racist, but it takes an amount of privilege to go with the bold claim that society corrects its own racism and dismiss some real sad experiences that people of color have gone/still go through.

The reality is nobody has stood more for minorities (being one myself) more, (Dem or Rep) than Ron, he's the only one who talks about the drug war, the unjust judicial system, individual rights. The President of the NAACP has even come out and dismissed charges that the Congressman was a racist. I've seen Ron over the years and not once has he adopted racist beliefs and even quotes MLK numerous times in his speeches.

Either way, Ron has disavowed the racist slanders that were in the newsletter. Newsletters were the Internet of the early 1990′s. Dozens of newsletters with Ron Paul’s name in the title were published and thousands of articles were written by all manner of writers coming from all manner of different viewpoints, some legitimate, some not. To blame Ron Paul for the content of those newsletters is like blaming Free Republic for what its users post on its website. It’s guilt by association

If I recall correctly the referral to blacks as animals was due to the Rodney King riots, which they did behave like animals. Two things. First, there weren't racist articles in these newsletters. Tiny excerpts within an article of a newsletter (out of presumably hundreds of them) have been blown massively out of proportion and labeled as "racist," which itself is a vague and essentially discredited term because it's been so watered down through overuse. And second, comparing the oversight of a newsletter to being president of the country is an utterly absurd comparison. Try again.

Lew Rockwell probably wrote most of the newsletters, and while Ron Paul might not agree with all the content, he did allow it to happen for quite some time. (It's simply not likely that these popular newsletters were published for so long without him knowing.) Nobody should think that this denial is 100% honest.
I'm not convinced it's the worst baggage in the race, but let's be honest and realize that even Dr Paul is not an angel?

@shadownor Actually it is not. He was committed fil time as a doctor to practice medicine. He submitted HIS articles about hard money etc to the real publisher or people running it at the time. He may have read some of the reports issued but there were 10000s of pages issued, and maybe 1% of bad stuff. On this issue Ron certainly doesn't want to deal with it anymore, but the bulk of his believes are against both republicans and democrats. So he constantly has had to defend himself with significant opposition. To say he can't hand the heat doesn't seem too logical to me.

Still though, if something incredibly offensive was posted under my name, I would not only disassociate myself from the newsletter, I'd want to find out who is responsible and call them out on it. Ron Paul hasn't done the latter I can only assume he isn't wholly offended by what was written in that paper. His reaction was logical, but not emotional. I think that lack of empathy is what is unnerving about all this and why it's hardly unfair for reporters to keep questioning him about it.

It's not that Ron Paul is racist, it's just that like many of us he has moral blind spots and is ignorant of why something might be offensive until it's demonstrated to him. For example his opposition to a civil rights bill isn't necessarily racist, but it takes an amount of privilege to go with the bold claim that society corrects its own racism and dismiss some real sad experiences that people of color have gone/still go through.
