@KnucklesARouge That's not true. It's the same for both. Either way, on or off, he's going to have to see that nag again because the internal system clock or timer is keeping track. Resetting the CMOS won't help. The file that Windows uses are probably hidden and it keeps tabs on things like that(I mean like how far you'ved used that Windows).
Well my story is: I buyed XP 32 bit a looong time ago... After some time I had a Virus in the Winreg so I removed it. But now my WIndows Key was removed from the registry. And when I wanted to reenter it it told me it was already activated. So I needed to download an activator (or validator) for it and the activated it again. Iwas really really shocked when this screen came :O

but seriously what your stance on "software sharing" pm me if u wanna chat im feeling a little ITS GREAT TO BE BACK
M$ took the activation thing way too far in XP. When the period runs out... it locks you out, so you cannot use it at all. In Vista... when the period runs out... you just get limited functionality, but you can still access files. If you have several systems on a network, just boot up the XP system in safe mode with networking and you should be able to access your files.
isnt there a way around that note? i remember someone being able to right click and clicked "help" then eventually made his way into browsing the help library then eventually the C drive files then went into his desktop then enable directory into explorer then he was in. Either way it was a security situation on working around a network password and getting into a workspace without logging in, but this was in windows 95 (or 98 cant remember) but defiantly a hole.
meanwhile you are in safe mode, you can install a crack for "pass" this problem! Just download a crack from another pc then startup this in safe mode and apply the crack, isn't a good idea??
I WARN YOU THAT YOU CAN ONLY USE WINDOWS XP X64 FOR JUST 1 DAY PERIOD!
