I think the misunderstanding is due to that Antony Hegarty is credited as an additional vocalist on this track (and on track 4, "Strange Perfumes", of this Laurie Anderson album). I still believe that the main voice here is Lauries. Her voice is pitch shifted more than just a few cents down. We can hear Antony Hegarty in the background from around 3.22 seconds within the song.
When I first heard this i was trying to fall asleep on my friends couch and it scared the hell out of me but i was so drawn to it i couldn't stop listening to it.....something about just intrigued me...Thanks for uploading this..I was trying to remember what his name was..I just googled guy with big eyebrows who sang on jimmy fallon.lol
@tobisha Laurie is a woman no a man.lol. she uses vox which is a form of vocal effects amongst other effects on her music. all of her stuff is tweaked electronically in some way. she is a genius and quite funny saw well. check out all of her stuff. it will take you on a journey. seeing her life is a whole other experience. cheers!
Laurie refers to this pitch-shifted voice as "The Voice of Authority"

"And you who can be silent in four languages
your silence will be considered your consent.
Ah but those were the days before the audience.
And what the audience wanted.
And what the audience said it wanted..."
chills...

There was an old married couple and they had always hated each other, never been able to stand the sight of each other, really.
And when they were in their nineties, they finally got divorced.
And people said: Why did you wait so long? Why didn't you do this a whole lot earlier?
And they said: Well, we wanted to wait until the children died.
...no more words..

This is easily the best thing she's done since 1981. And it's the only vocal performance by Antony that doesn't irritate the shit out of me.
