Some parts of the Earth yes. It also depends on the size of the impactor. We should be able to withstand relatively unharmed asteroid strikes up to 2 km in diameter. The bigger ones pose serious threat to our civilization. That's why we need such Vaults. And we should have more than one in different locations.

I agree. The "doomsday" was generalized to include mismanaged crops and typhoons and such, but didn't mention corporate greed.
