For a daytrip I can really suggest more efficient ways of making coffee that perfectly fit the needs. Just dump in some ground coffee in your mug, stir, wait, and ready. As long as you do not drink that last bit....

Carrying a thermos with hot water is not that bad: you can also make tea or hot chocolate, provided you brought some tea bag or chocolate solution. I prefer carrying something more efficient than this.

I have one - they make really good espresso! And to the commenters; Ways you heat water in the nature are; open fire, Trangia, Primus etc (google it) - It's actually also possible to cook food outside (woooow!). And no, this IS real espresso, espresso is NOT steam pressurized trough coffee grounds, it's water - if it was actually possible to press steam trough coffee grounds and make it liquid on the other side, it would burn the coffee and make it very bitter. 90-95 C is the best temp.

No really. Most professionnal will tell you that brewed coffee loses it's freshness after 10 minutes.At McDonald they won't even serve coffee that is 15 min. In fact it tastes best when it's enjoyed within one to ten minutes.
