  • POOF!!! He came from another dimension... to show mortals how to play bass!!!

  • thank you so much for posting these lessons. i'd probably stop playing bass if you didnt do this. so thank you for everything

  • soooo amazing! : o

  • I don't get it. you said it was in Eminor pentatonic which consists of 5 notes: E,G,A,B,E and then you play a D in the riff?

  • @g4geetar I think you may have misheard him. Em pentatonic is E, G, A, B, D ..... the final E is just the octave and as such isn't considered one of the five notes of the scale. Hope that clears up the confusion.

  • @Murdo2112 thanks

    :0)

  • daaaanish

  • man u re amazing! thanks a lot i ve learnt a lot thanks to you! can t wait to see more! ;) keep da funk alive!

  • das funky ya!

  • for a second i thought i was watching seinfeld.

  • First of all, thank you so much for posting these lessons. My skills on the bass have improved drastically since I found your videos. I have a question for you regarding the slap technique, and I hope you can help me out here.. how do you mute the lower strings when you're playing legato patterns like in this video here? I'm getting all these unwanted sounds when i'm playing the minor licks on the higher strings.. do you use the wrist/forearm?

  • @bananku Yes, wrist/forearm AND often left hand fingers as well

  • All those basses! ME WANT!!

  • Are you from Denmark??

  • bored.

  • Awesome lesson. I thought I'd never learn that line at the start, and at the end, I've mastered it! Great job!

When you do your neat trills over the fret to the next note, are you keeping your thumb fixed at the back of the neck or does that move up & down as well?

  • I have played the bass by ear for about 5 years just kind of fumbling around in the dark, so to speak. Since I started watching these lessons and practicing with them, I have an excitement to play the bass like never before. I finally feel like I really KNOW now what I'm playing, and WHY I'm playing it. Thank you so much. You are amazing!

  • profesor estoy estudiando duro sus ejercicios de slap gracias ha DIOS y a sus explicaciones estoy captandolos muy rapido. esto me enriqueze mucho musicalmente y me da destreza para crear mambos distintos thank you teacher!!!

  • I have learned more from watching these videos than from any lessons, book or teacher I've ever had. Thank you so much for posting them!

  • JESUS THE GREAT! YOU have an Alembic bass! Play with it! Those basses are monsters.

  • @feverhood I dont have the Alymbic anymore, I just borrowed it for a period

  • @MarloweDK It's Alembic, not Alymbic actually, but never mind it. It's a shame you don't have it : / if you will get your hands on it again, please jam a little. Thanks

  • @feverhood Hmm,you did not need to correct my typo, you really dont think I know it an Alembic?;-)

  • @MarloweDK I really did, my bad :D

    Cheers and beers

  • @feverhood Cheers:-)

  • what do you put on the pickups?

  • lol 5:57

  • Marlowe, does it matter if, when ur slapping, u use the index finger for popping the D and G string? Or is using index finger for D and middle finger for G better for future methods I have yet to learn? I don't wanna get in trouble too soon :p

  • @IronMaidenGuitarRs94 No, just do what is comfortable for you

  • You are as talented as you are stylish. I love you, man.

  • how many basses do you have??

  • Cheese 1:04

You are my hero mister Professor.

I learned so much from this ;D

  • Here's to youtube's most talented and selfless bass player!

  • great videos! what basses du you have?

  • so is the idea of slapping to keep the thumb movin and just mute the string and push the fret when you need it?

  • Why you look so older compare with the year 2007 vid.

  • @dekdjung007 Because i am

  • @dekdjung007 Sometimes it is a good thing to express ones opinions and sometimes it's just rude, your comment is the latter. What a stupid comment to make to a person who is an exceptional Bass player and is good enough to share his skill and experience here to help educate us all

  • Your lessons really taught me alot.. Thanks Marlowe, ive learned to actually slap properly now :D You definatly should make more videos of indepth slap. Im sure you could do it. THANKS :)

  • one thing cute about his video is that he always wear glasses, weather sunglasses or eyeglasses

  • wat

  • I learned to play slap bass with a fender P bass, kind of cool hearing the sound again:).The begining of this riff strongly reminds me of the famous song

called Love games by Level 42,with Mark King on the bass.

You are doing a Great job here with your lessons and doing it step by step

very understandable on every videos you come up with:)

    to understand

  • Thanks man, you're a great teacher.

  • 0:08 he began playing the groove in his sleep. 0:18 he woke up =o.

Love the lesson Marlowe. Thanks a bunch!

  • u are awesome!!

  • Luv it so much .. PeaCe!

  • @MarloweDK You have helped me so much. You are a genius at teaching!

  • *LOL* That ending was too cool and fun!...Great lesson as always!

  • Nice lesson! What pickup of the P-Bass?

  • Sick again You just rock nothing less (:

  • Marlowe, if it's asking too much I wanna see you playing a warwick... I think you have one

  • whatta hell are those lipstick pickups there ???

  • @zaksnaporaz Ha ha, its just pieces of gaffertape, to get rid of finger clicking sounds from hitting the pickup poles

  • @MarloweDK LOL, that's a good one ! Yes, it can be an issue that thing about hitting the pole pieces. I thought you were the first dude sporting p-bass style lipstick pickups. I am happy to see you are keeping it up like there's no tomorrow, you sure deserve a statue in bassplayer's park !!!

  • @zaksnaporaz Is there a tomorrow? Thx man:-)

  • @MarloweDK what was that ? ...a groovy counterpoint to optimism ? or a symptom of midlife crisis ?

  • @MarloweDK what's that reply, a groovy counterpoint to optimism ;o) ?

  • @MarloweDK ha dude i do the same on my other bass....because when you hit it to hard the shocking sound always hurt my ear....!! haha

  • I don't like the sound, probably it's too buzzy and treble too me, but the playing is awesome, than kyou for the video!

  • @MarloweDK

Hvor mange basser har du ?? Hvilken en kan du bedst lide ?? Jeg skal begynde at spille på bas og jeg ville vide om du kunne anbefale en god begynder bas ???

  • got rid of the warwick? can't say that i blame you ;)

  • @MarloweDK great video, great sound and awesome lesson!

One question: have u ever tried a Clover or a Marleaux Bass ? They are very good!

  • @Deuxde No, havent tried those basses

  • you should use 9:40 as a profil picture, looks handsome ;D

  • Nice!

  • Once again.... thank you Thomas!

  • Marlowe, You're a living proof that all men are not created equal:)

  • what kind of bass is the 3rd one from the left??

  • @madincoiu Rickenbacker mannn..

  • @sLinkyBeAvEr thanks dude :)

  • @madincoiu Rickenbacker Bass

  • Marlowe, when I see your videos I start doubting about my sexual orientation LOL

  • @philosopher1000 maybs u gay

  • Good tutorial !

I see one Alembic on the right. You continue to baby-sitting the bass or you bought her ?

    And you changed pickups ?

  • Comment removed

  • @DanielzBassz I Prefer Jbass but i also like the Pbass :) It doesnt matter which finger you use, I just happen to use the third on G string and the second on the D string. And sometimes i pluck both strings in quick succesion - in those instances its good to have a finger on each string, but other wise, do what what feels natural for you

  • @MarloweDK Why don't you use your Stingray for these slap lessons? Thats the "ultimate" slap bass! ;-)

  • @benjaminr87 The stingray's electronics are out order for the moment, thanks for reminding me to fix it soon

  • Thanks for this series! At the moment I'm still struggling with the offbeat left-hand mutes of episode 2... it's brain squeezer ... ;-)

It's all in your fingers .... but I takes it's time to get the groove ...

  • What's that bass in the far right of the screen? Alembic?

  • @mas502arc Yes, its an Alembic i have borrowed

  • Many praises to all of your lessons they are very informative. Do you have any lessons in which you go into your right hand thumbing technique when playing slap bass? I understand it should be a downward motion but i still seem to come at the string straight on and kind of bounce off of it. Is this wrong? Help!!!!!

  • @jeffbag23 Yes, its in lesson 1 or 2 of this series

  • Thanks again man! You're a great teacher.

  • Thank you again MarloweDK for the lesson!

  • please play the alembic on your next vid ? :)

  • Thanks for this video. This is what I have been waiting for. You are a king!

  • do u have any tabs for these because i dont have the computer in the room where my bass is so i cant remeber it

  • @volcomscooter29 Probably the lamest excuse Ive ever heard:-D Dont ever quit your day job;-)

  • @volcomscooter29 Just bring your bass in to the same room them... you don't have to plug it in to an amp to hear it reasonably well if you're in a quiet room.

  • Good god man, how many bass guitars does a single person need??

Other than that, great bass playing, great lessons. And keep it coming!!!

  • @hhhthd I'm a collector and they all sound different

  • @MarloweDK I didn't mean my comment about your basses to be rude or insulting at all, sorry... I AM a little jealous tho. Haha

  • @hhhthd Dont worry, You were not rude and I never get insulted:-)

  • @hhhthd How guitars does one man need? As many as he wants. You can never have enough!

Bass playing is not about need it's about joy! Marlowe - buy more! And when are we going to hear the Alembic?

  • ehehe gotta love you funk face!

  • i missed that p bass! good to see it again

  • OMG!!!! teletransportation!!! that's amazing

  • NICE VIDEO EFFECTS! HAHAH

  • I love how you play even the simplest lines with good taste and articulation. Thank you!

BTW what brand is the pickup on this bass?

  • @NemoBandBG Thanks:-) But Im kind of puzzled over all these pickup questions from everybody in general. Ive never changed any pickup on any of my basses - On my Fender basses there are...ehhh.. Fender pickups?;-)

  • love the new series marlowe <3

  • hahahah,i love that 'until next time ' xD btw. these slapping lessons really helps me ! thanks marlowe again :)
