Yes, its harder on a table/flat surface. When you do it in the air, your arm will lower or your elbow will bend - even the smallest amounts make a difference - try it, you'll see what I mean.
Hey bro, why on the table, of of a leverage? I do it in the air with a 12 pounder, is on the table harder? You vids rock man and are a great source of inspiation of me. Check out some of my vids I just put up, levering the 45lb club and doing bottom up presses.
