Toonami used to kick so much fucking ass back in the day; Outlaw Star, Cowboy Bebop, Yu Yu Hakusho, Trigun - THOSE were the shows I grew up on and theyve never left me since. Hell I just finished re-watching the entire season of Outlaw Star a few days ago.
And no, the universe was completely unprepared for Gene.
@hulkmeister23 Yeah I know, small mistake. Just lumping in the awesome shows that were shown on the channel itself. Isn't Bebop's current timeslot on Adult Swim pretty late/extremely early in the morning now? Around 2AM or something?
@PureBlackMetal yeah, right after back to back Bleach. Still, as awesome the programs on Toonami were, I think Cowboy Bebop was too dark and adult even for them.
I couldn't agree more. Although having Steven Blum (TOM, Spike Spigal) and Peter Cullen (Optimus Prime, narrator in this clip) definitely helps as well.
It is a pity that only Toonami had the genius and guts to realize that mixing great voice actors, superb special effects, creative editing, and unforgettable music with some of the best anime and cartoon series out there is good, both for ratings and profits.
Toonami is not just a programming block, but a cultural phenomenon in its own right.
Omg is Peter Cullen the voice of Optimus Prime??

wish toonami came back and was given there own channel, and controlled by the original creators of toonami.

I bet Gene and Vash go to the same bar.

@hulkmeister23 Yeah, that makes a lot of sense. Toonami really pushed the envelope with getting Outlaw Star into the lineup.

@Disembow1280 Outlaw Star isn't dark.

GENE MOTHERFUCKERING STARWIND, THE UNIVERSE WAS NEVER PREPARED FOR HIS ARRIVAL!! Oh man, this is one of the most greatest Toonami promos ever T~T
GrandMasterJon 2 years ago
What is the background song in this promo? Is it from the outlaw star original soundtrack? or is it from toonami? And what is the title of it?
Animeclass101 2 years ago
It is Toonami's in-house music and the track is called "Starwind".
You can find it in the album "Deep Space Bass" by Joe Boyd Vigil, the guy who made all the Toonami music from 1998 to 2002.

@ClashManDX That is due to the fact that they had Peter Cullen doing the promos.
