Hey colby your math is off on the sales. you have to account for the reduction in profit per sale. If you make 100k at $60 a game, then at $15 your taking approximately 75% decrease in profit per sale. So at 100k at $60 per game, that's approx 16700 units sold. Multiply that times 14.7 for the 1470% increase in sales gives you 24500 units sold. 24500 times $15 equals $367,500.
That's the actual increase in profit according to your hypothetical numbers. Granted i didn't read the article.
@colbycheeze so dropping the price by 75% would make 56 times increase in actual units sold. From 1666 to 93333. It seems a lot, but what kind of products were sold during that Steam experiment? I won't buy just any game just because it's 15 bucks. I want to play good games. I think I'm not alone in that. I don't think this article is entirely useful, but price drops are always welcome.

In australia we have to pay on average $100 dollars for a brand new release game eg Black Ops etc. and also added to that fact the AU (Australian Dollar) is currently worth more than the American dollar. Im lvl 29 on league of legends at the moment, and from the UK so i play the european servers. I can relate to what you are saying about panicing and messing thing's up. I used to do this alot with Lux, as she was a totally different char to what im used to playing (Nasus). I think as long as you practice and ignore the obviously remarks some people will give you, you learn to be more confident and make less mistakes.
Ironicly this is also the reason for F2P games like LoL rise cause the business model it's more profitable. You can put a recolor skin and come out with more money maked than a small quality game.
I am sorry colby but I don't agree with retail games. Publisher move to console simplely because because console player PAY for the game. Good PC title like CoD4:MW(I don't use CoD:MW2 as example since people bitch about 'consolelize issue' but CoD4:MW doesn't)has over 80% sale come from console which IMO is ridiculous. I run it on high end PC (couse I find myself to be a PC gamer (and i do not own nor have interest in owning or playing games on consoles) and game looks incredible. Game prices should definitely be lowered - game companies are basing this off the fact that they offer you some bullsh*t ranking system with free content. They also think that piracy will drop with higher game prices.

The price of games are even worse in Australia. In retail a new PC game costs about $100 AU and a new console game about $120 AU. That's why I just buy imports cause it so much cheaper.

They aren't going to ban D3 straight out I think. Maybe just the auction house part of it. They will get the game later because Blizzard would have to remove it entirely from the Korean servers and that'll be just about it. It's not like the auction house is necessary for you to play the game alone and with other people, right?
dude everything you said during this podcast was really great, the only game i actually will buy for 60$ is a Bethesda game on the PC because they always come with mod tools and provide a lot of replay ability.
@raphaelmigliori Its not the graphics cards fault. The Nvidia cards have the same problems. You can't release a game that doesn't work on EITHER set of cards and then blame it on hardware. That's just irresponsible. It's as if they did not even test the game once before releasing it on PC. Such disregard for quality is embarrassing for AAA companies in my opinion.
It seems extreme to dismiss an entire gaming studio for one bad PC port. Especially one with a history such as ID software who helped made gaming tech and fps shooters what they are today.

Game prices should definitely be lowered - game companies are basing this off the fact that they offer you some bullsh*t ranking system with free content. They also think that piracy will drop with higher game prices.

The price of games are even worse in Australia. In retail a new PC game costs about $100 AU and a new console game about $120 AU. That's why I just buy imports cause it so much cheaper.

@grantaking Not at all interested in HoN. It is a dying game on it's last leg. Nobody will even know what HoN is in a few years. It will be like 90% playing LoL and then some people will play Dota2.

They aren't going to ban D3 straight out I think. Maybe just the auction house part of it. They will get the game later because Blizzard would have to remove it entirely from the Korean servers and that'll be just about it. It's not like the auction house is necessary for you to play the game alone and with other people, right?

@raphaelmigliori Its not the graphics cards fault. The Nvidia cards have the same problems. You can't release a game that doesn't work on EITHER set of cards and then blame it on hardware. That's just irresponsible. It's as if they did not even test the game once before releasing it on PC. Such disregard for quality is embarrassing for AAA companies in my opinion.

@wadden543 I guess. Oblivion was fun for a bit but I never beat it because I lost interest. Fallout I forced myself to finish, and I couldn't even play Vegas for more than an hour or so before getting bored. I'll try Skyrim but I already get the feeling I won't enjoy it that much.
