I was born in Germany as well, and my parents did the same thing with speaking German, and so I'm fluent even though I've never gotten any formal teaching in it, and I only lived in Germany until I was two... But it's the same thing for me, I just have conversational German but I'm more comfortable with English because I actually learned it in school :)
Having grown up in Alabama, lived in Germany (Army) and now live in Florida, I immediately hear your Canadian accent (lots of snowbirds here). My German wife and I speak German together and when I was watching your video of shopping, I noticed how you pronounced German words perfectly. When I speak German, anyone can hear my Southern accent. Prost Yall.
I really liked your Indian inspired eye make up. Your copper colors go so well together. False eyelashes really do make a big difference. I am going to have to start wearing them. I am now just seeing your swiss videos for the first time. Zurich is really beautiful and so well kept up for an old town. I hear it is one of the best places to live and raise a family. Low crime rates. How is the economy? I saw you going shopping in the store. Well, on your video I mean. I wish I was there
Hi! I knew your were Canadian the moment I found your make up channel, but I was surprised your from Vancouver, I lived there a couple yrs ago. Anyway I really think you should do videos out where you can see beautiful landscapes os Switzerland. Please vote up so she can see.
I'm from Vancouver and my parents also immigrated from Bavaria and I do hear the German accent in your voice. But you speak English with all the slangs that Canadians would use just in certain vowels do I hear the German. I am the same way :)
Hey, thanks for the video! I found you by searching for 'grocery shopping in Switzerland' on Youtube. I'm from Ottawa but I'll be moving to Lausanne, Switzerland for 3-6 months. I was wondering if you had any advice I should be aware of (stuff I should bring with me due to high cost or scarcity in Switzerland, types of housing I should look for... etc.). Thanks so much!
I really would like to know how old you are and what your real job is! :p
Oh and also I would love if you could make a video about the pros and cons of Canada and Switzerland because I am living in an European country and there could be a possibility of moving to Canada, sooo......
first- I am loving this third shift channel the videos have been very informative and fun to watch so thank you for creating it. second- you asked for suggestions: I would love to see a video where you compare living in Canada vs Switzerland like all the pros and cons of changing countries I think that would be a great video because I'd love to learn more on the subject from someone who's experiencing it all first hand. Love your channels, keep the awesome videos coming! :)
Omg u and i have like the same story, i am swiss too. I was born in Singapore. I lived in Switzerland for like 4 years then my mom wanted to move to mexico, so we did and i still live here (which i dont like) but anyways. I came here and learnt spanish likee right away! it was so easy for me, but sadly i completely lost german. But fortunately i can speak french and english. I love my country! And i miss everything about switzerland. So i hope one day i can go back and learn freakin german again!
im from holland, but my mom is from malaysia.i was raised with the dutch language n culture but at home, i speak mix dutch, malay with my mom n follow both cultures.
now i live in abu dhabi, uae for 4.5 yrs. when i moved here, i didnt know english too,but i adapted english fast as well.n now, my english is better than my dutch and my malay. furthermore, i forgot a lot of my dutch. i can still speak, but i speak mix with english, just like in malay + english.
i came to amerca wheni was 4 and i have to speak lithuanian at home so i dont lose it. i feel the same about english, i feel i speak it a bit better than my actual language. i was actually born in lithuania, and i learned english veryy quickly! i am glad too that i speak another language, it makes me feel kind of smarter lol, and i take german in my school, s hopefully get better atthat and i can be trilingual.. and my parents are trying to make me speak russian cuz they had to learn it be4:)
i felt the same way about learning english. i was 6 when my parents had my brother and i learn spanish and grew up speaking spanish. So i know how you feel about picking up english as a second language and being more confident speaking english than in spanish =]
ITA with the whole language thing. I was born in the US but my mother is French and my dad is Brasilian. So at home I had to speak all 3. I lived in the US for 15 years and then we moved to Brasil and then we moved to France. (which Is where I am now)
Knowing more than one language is SO important. Im very thankful that my parents taught me their native languages. It definitely comes in handy!
@ElPlaceboEffect jaaa vo mir us. abr si chunt vo nordamerika und die kultur ide schwiiz isch noi für sii. und ich glaub öpe gliich noi wie füren ami oder? ;)
Hi I´m from Brazil and i think its amazing know you better i always check your videos and pictures, u have talent!! Hope talk more about you, your lifestyle. I would like to know about your hobbies and TV series/movies/cartoons you like .
I'm from Israel, I was born in Jerusalem but I grew up in Tel Aviv (We went back to Tel Aviv when I was two days old). I speak Hebrew as my native language. English is my second language, and I understand a little french from time to time. I really want to learn Japanease, or maybe a little more French.
Im born in America but when i turned 6 me and my family moved to Switzerland, knaw i speak Italian German French and English xD!! i love Switzerland :) and im only 13 :) Im lucky i know all that languages soo fluently!!
@SweetAuroraxD I was born in Vietnam and still live here now. I only speak Vietnamese and still learn how to deal with English! And i'm 19 already LOL
I talk english, arabic and dutch. and i understand german very well but i'm very afraid to talk and i'm learning french 3 years and i still don't understand it very well.. So yeah.. that's europe
Tottaly know what u mean...Im originally born in Bulgaria but when I was 11 me nd my family moved to Norway. (I'm 13 now) I'm forced to speak bulgarian at home too tho. I learned Norwegian super fast, it's not hard when u go to school. But now I'm learning Spanish. So yeah 13 nd talkin 4 languages, god bless europe!! I wanna learn French nd Italian too!
you lucky, lucky girl!!! dual citizenships and what a combo. i'm canadian and i have a BNO (british nationals overseas) passport because i was born in hong kong when it was still a british colony, but my second passport is good for living in hong kong. unfortunately, my dream was to live in europe, so it's been useless to me. i've lived in france for a year and now i'm living in spain for half a year, but it's total hell trying to get a visa. >.<
I love your videos! I'm planning a trip to Europe within two years and I'm getting all info I can. One thing I'd like to see you doing more would be cooking the swiss way.
I think it's so great that your parents helped you keep up with the language. I have a friend who knows this couple with children; the father is Chinese and the mother is Greek (or something along those lines). Sadly, they didn't teach their children Chinese OR Greek, which is so wasteful and actually makes me mad. Why have your child miss out on that? People who live in America are so lazy! As an American myself, I see it firsthand.
I really enjoy watching you, I find you sweet and adorable. LOVE your make-up channel too, but I just found this one. BTW, I thought you had a Canadian accent. =)
Deine Frisur ist klasse. Magst Du da auch mal ein Video von machen? Das wäre toll. Habe den Kanal erst jetzt gefunden und finde das super. You are great, I like your videos. Weiter so!!!!
you're right about the kids and the parents forcing them to talk their language at home. im from the philippines and i came to america and my grandparents and people who are still in the country are like trying to make me speak our language cuz it's important.
I was wondering if you have a relationship with your father? If this is too personal you don't have to answer. You are quite interesting. Thank you for reading this.
Our childhood is very similar...I was born in Italy and when I was 9 years old we moved in the USA, and now I speak two languages, italian and english =D
Hi, i also am German and moved to Canada when i was very young and learned English as well as French very quickly, so i agree with you that kids learn very quickly, i .enjoyed your videos of Switzerland, would love to visit there some time.
Hello, in your video u say that u have an email. Just recently I discovered you videos so I don't know it. Is there anyway you can send it to me via inbox or some way? Thanks! Love your videos!
I love your videos! I plan on visiting Switzerland this october. I was hoping to ski there. Do you think it will be cold enough and where would you recommend.
You can tell the Canadian (being that I am a Canadian) but you do have a hint of another accent behind it. But that's awesome that your parents kept that up. I fully believe that any foreign family should at least keep their natural language up. It makes it interesting for friends to view it.
I have been watching your tutorials for a long time. I did not know you were born in Germany. I guess that explains your accent. I speak English and Spanish and I enrolled my daughter in a bilingual school so she can learn to speak Spanish as well. Love your tutorials keep them coming!!!!
Hi Julia, I had no idea that you have this other channel. I wanna ask when did your parents taught you other language when you were a kid ? I am asking bec. my baby boy is turning 2 yrs. old soon and our main language here is Japanese. I would like to teach him English too but I am not really sure, when is the right age for that. I always love your other channel & just subscribed here. See u on twitter too :)
I see now why you speak German so good, I thought you would speak Swiss German, but you story explains everything. Well, I hope my son will speak a lot of languages. I speak Russian and English, mu hubby speaks Portugeese and English, and we live in Switzerland...poor boy will have to learn at least 4 languages....
Cool I'm 11 and I live in Canada. My dad is Portuguese and my mom Canadian. I speak French and English but I'm looking foward to learn German and portuguese!!
it's so funny to me to hear that us canadians have an accent, but I guess because I haven't travelled very much I can't really tell the difference haha well I can tell the difference between east coast and west coast (me being from the west coast) but that's about it haha anyways, great videos
lol I was born in Germany, moved to Canada at age three but speak English and French (no German since I was about 4 or 5)...when I talk fast I have a similar accent:)
Hey dear i suggest if u strart doing cooking tutorial.. that would be great learnig what are ur main dishes so we can apply them here in my country!!!
Ahhh! This is so exciting! Ican totally tell you're from Vancouver because you say "Vangcouver" like we do :). Everyone else says Vancouver without the g sound in it. :) Hehehe.
It's way cool knowing you're from where I'm from :D.
hehee, the canadian accent is pretty obvious to someone who grew up with it! i was born and raised in canada and ended up moving to the US in my 20s. My accent now is pretty generic, no real distinguishable sound to it, EXCEPT the O's. people always catch me when i say for example "sorry" etc.
Hi Julia! I was just wondering if you learned french as a second taught language in Canada or if you learned it in Switzlerland when you moved there later?
and since you were born in Germany, do you still have that citizenship as well? Cause you say you're Swiss-Canadian, but also you were born in Germany...
I'm happy about this new channel, we will get to know you more and more!
Funny enough we have similar life experiences. I'm Portuguese and we immigrated to Canada when i was little and i basically grew up there & therefore I also have the double nationality. A couple of years ago, I decided to move to France ( trilingual ). So I understand the parents point of view of speaking the native language but also how easy it is to learn new languages as a kid. Because of where i grew up, ppl don't understand what i'm doing here :) But thats just how life is !
It's nice to hear about you, I can relate with the part about speaking native languages at home..
I was born in England and grew up there but I moved to France when I was 10 and I still had to speak English at home to keep the language and when I moved back to England for a while I was made to speak French at home in order not to lose that either! I now live in France again and speak French all the time because I'm 20 now so I don't think I'll lose my English at this point!
Yes of course your canadian accent is really strong but sometimes I can also hear a bit of german accent. But I think it's really nice to be from different nationality and country. I dream to be bilingual that's why I admire any people who speaks different languages ! Bonne continuation pour tes tutorials de make up.
We went to Switzerland for our honeymoon. It was BEAUTIFUL!! The lakes and basically all of nature were magical!( Not to mention the chocolate and cheese, lol)! Definitely want to visit again!!
you should show us around your apartment, i want to know if they are any different in europe than here (i live in the united states, and aparently people here talk with a canadian accent cause i dont hear crap... i guess im close to vancouver though...)
ha this is so cool: born in germany, growing up in vancouver (which by the way is an amazing city!) and now living in switzerland..compared to you, i'm so boring: born in germany, growing up in germany... xD
3/3 Also as a fan, I would be very interested if there has been some other exciting stuff which came about from your radio interview and your feature in the national newspaper (omg saying it again gives me goosebumps lol) thanks :) x
2/3 I would love to see that and get a better understanding of how your videos come about. For me it's so easy you see, I get a tweet and poum, it magically appears in my sub box :)

I always love your other channel & just subscribed here. See u on twitter too :)

I see now why you speak German so good, I thought you would speak Swiss German, but you story explains everything. Well, I hope my son will speak a lot of languages. I speak Russian and English, mu hubby speaks Portugeese and English, and we live in Switzerland...poor boy will have to learn at least 4 languages....

it's so funny to me to hear that us canadians have an accent, but I guess because I haven't travelled very much I can't really tell the difference haha well I can tell the difference between east coast and west coast (me being from the west coast) but that's about it haha anyways, great videos

I think the UK really lets down their lanugage students. We don't start learning a language till we're 12/13. :(

hehee, the canadian accent is pretty obvious to someone who grew up with it! i was born and raised in canada and ended up moving to the US in my 20s. My accent now is pretty generic, no real distinguishable sound to it, EXCEPT the O's. people always catch me when i say for example "sorry" etc.
naun 2 years ago

I can hear a little of your German accent. That's cool!

I now live in France again and speak French all the time because I'm 20 now so I don't think I'll lose my English at this point!
thatsabitsafe 2 years ago
Yes of course your canadian accent is really strong but sometimes I can also hear a bit of german accent. But I think it's really nice to be from different nationality and country. I dream to be bilingual that's why I admire any people who speaks different languages ! Bonne continuation pour tes tutorials de make up.
