  • I always confused this composition with 'miserere mei deus' by Gregorio Allegri.

Not any more - thanks for uploading this LoreneFaith

  • remembering the funeral 14 years ago, this taverner piece brings me to tears and gives me goosebumps . I have never heard anything like it.

  • @Australiophile I agree. It is one of the most beautiful and spiritual things that I have ever heard.

  • @MyKingdom13 The religious history of our country isn't quite as beautiful as you imply. But the music is very good.

  • a beautiful lady...amazing....

  • @lisadiar Yes, very beautiful and very much a lady.

  • @MyKingdom13 Your comments have touched me deeply. This music and moment also have made a deep impact on me. It is like a connection with the eons of time. It is almost of another realm. I understand perfectly what you are saying. Thank you for sharing your feelings.

  • Thebladrunner11..I am not sure what I said. However, life is for now, tomorrow is promised to no one. There are no guarantees of anything and no insurance. It is simply the luck of the draw. But one has an opportunity to turn lemons into lemonade. We can all pray for something, and I have found in my travels that it is "opportunities" for what we desire. Make the most of ones day...corpedium.

  • @luckygirl1953 I totally agree with you. Thanks for the inspiration!

  • what a bunch of drivel

  • this is a wonderful, haunting song ... and the boot steps of the soldiers carrying the coffin..

  • @andrewmari and the muffled bells really set it off too.

  • Er, it's John Tavener without the r, actually. Taverner with an r is an entirely different composer....

  • @kentishmaid21 Thanks for letting me know of the error. I have corrected the video.

  • @kentishmaid21 The living John Tavener is a direct descendant of the other John Taverner :)

  • @Briznanoth Is that true? Didn't know that.

  • You are most welcome; Lorene - and thank YOU for posting up this video! In the next few days I shall be posting up my favourite videos to spread some more Beauty around our presently darkening planet. One can only take heart from the fact that whatever Hell Humankind brings to this beautiful planet; Truth and Beauty always prevail in the end - even when demanding the most bitter of medicines for commonsense and gratitude to God to return! - Continued ...

  • @CUERVOBRILLANTE - Something very remarkable. Princess Diana's brother, Earl Spencer had a dream one night while arranging for his sister's funeral. He saw 4 black swans swimming on the oval lake destined for Diana's tomb on the central island. Precisely the next day a man telephoned the Earl and asked him if he would like 4 black swans as a gift for the lake! - And of course, he accepted! - Amazing! I went to Althorp on the first summer it opened to the public and could not see them. - CONT. -

  • @CUERVOBRILLANTE So I asked a lady attendant where they were. She told me that when Althorp is open to the public they are shut away in a pen for their own protection; for fear that the public might start frightening them and feeding them with food they should not eat. I have to say, it was a beautiful summer day on my visit and linden trees all around the lake were in full bloom giving off a most exquisite, poignant fragrance, with bees gathering nectar. The peace everywhere was palpable CONT:

  • @CUERVOBRILLANTE - Everyone seemed to be walking around the path circling the island lost in thought and prayer for this amazing woman. There is an urn atop a pillar erected as a small white monument to her memory at one edge; but the tomb itself is in a waterproof vault in the centre of the island and cannot be seen. My other vivid memory is of that very particular wedding dress and train, dimly lit and displayed inside a glass cabinet. It looked dark, sad and ancient as if from centuries past.

  • This amazing, heart-rending music, of John Taverner, could never have been bettered, to express the utter grief and tragedy of the entire world, that she so lightly touched; it bids farewell to her life, "a shadow and a dream," as a dark eclipse took her away from us, but leaving a brilliance which no mean soul can ever extinguish.by any means whatever.

  • @CUERVOBRILLANTE Beautiful said and so true. Thank you for posting.

  • @CUERVOBRILLANTE This music is a reminder that God alone is our General, judge and rewarder. That tomorrow is promised to no one. It skewers me to the core and reminds me from where I hail. It seems that one can never take England out of the person. Princes Diana asked simply to be loved for who she was. This music reminds me so much that it is so difficult for so many of us to receive that simply request as it was so difficult to find her champion and guard.

  • @luckygirl1953 With respect to your beliefs life can be interpreted as completely random good and bad fortune...the luck of the draw.We must all value and make the most of this life we have.Diana was dealt some bad cards that terrible night in Paris. An inadeqate, alcoholic driver and a failure to wear a seat belt.

  • Thank you for posting this. I remember sitting the whole day and watching the events, and the thing that has remained with me was this fabulous music and the shuffling of the soldiers' feet - almost, but not quite, in time with the music. It was hypnotic. Taverner was an inspired choice.

  • @undermyskin2 I remember this day too. Being in the states I had to get up very early in the morning. I watched six hours of coverage and was fixated the entire time. I think that this song, with the flag draped casket and the soldiers carrying the casket so gently, knowing the treasure that was inside, and the ringing of the half-muffled bells, it was hypnotic, powerful, moving, and had a great sense of the ages to it somehow. It seems almost to me as if we had gone back in time.
