  • luvz doze filums!

  • God DID create the Universe! The big bang theory was devised by atheist scientists and I don't believe in it because there are several flaws with it.

  • is filmosound the best bell and howell projectors out there? Are they quiet?

  • superintendent/biology teacher/driver's ed teacher LOL

  • now when you set it in reverse does it just turn off the audio light or does it cut off the audio coming from the audio drum? if it just turns off the audio light you should aim a flashlight at where the audio light is and see if the audio plays backwards try this in another video and if you do and it works credit me for the idea. and if I did somehow hook my PSP to one of these id probably play bust a move by young MC do you like him?

  • Nice scores CM, id love to own one of these things b/c I was was so fascinated in them as a kid. they used these when I was in kindergarten and first and second grade then they phased them out. I just think its so cool that a squiggly varying line on film will translate to audio information that can be heard. that is truely amazing technology for its time. I would love the amp on these things like you said its LOUD, imagine me playing my ipod or PSP thru the amp of one of these things.

  • Didn't Bell and Howell build a model with a manual film load instead of the autoload, like other brands like Singer, Telex, and RCA?

  • Dang are you lucky it doesn't sound like your worm gear is cracked.

I had to spend 4 hours to replace mine.

I have a 2590 basically the same accept mine has a line voltage 120 volt bulb so no dimming option on the power switch.

  • How do you relace the worm gear? I have 2 of these and they sound like jet engines.

  • I didn't have to replace mine, so I'm not sure. Sorry.

  • put up a high quality version man. Explain to us the "flicker Effect" you get when you transfer from 16mm to dvd using a dv camera.

  • Would the "flicker" effect have to do with the camera being 30 FPS and the film 24? FPS?

  • Amazing. I wonder what the name of that film is? I think I might've seen it.

  • Oops, I didn't notice that sygo7g's comment was a reply to an earlier subject. Sorry!

  • To rewind the film, lift the takeup reel spindle to the upper position, thread the film to the supply reel above the unit (do NOT pass it through the unit), set the switch to the first reverse position, then push the rewind button on the top of the unit. The rewind mode is automatically turned off when you set the switch back to the off position.

  • sygo7g is wrong: the film used in this is twice as wide as Super-8 and therefore is called 16mm, and the sound is recorded optically on the edge of the film opposite the guide holes as a line of varying opacity. The line gets brighter and darker to represent the sound wave to be reproduced.

  • That looked like Orson Welles at 1:25.

  • I think these were made between 1986-1988

  • I remember when I was in elementary school in 1992 the fire department would show fire prevention films on 16mm film. I was fascinated by the tiny crisp pictures on the film and the waveform track.

  • Friend...is very nice...GENIAL.

  • Thats amazing. Always wondered how the audio on those films worked. I think the audio method is very advanced for its time :)

  • It's more fun to find 'em abandoned! :P

  • I agree but then it wouldnt be as good condition!

  • LOL! That's usualy true.

  • You're very lucky! The bulbs still work too! I had two projectors but I got rid of them because they didn't work well. I made several student films on 16mm film in the 90s. (check my Youtube account)

  • Nice film Projector! I've been fortunate enough to grab an old dusty Technics stereo receiver from my college. Interesting film from the mid 60's I'm guessing.

  • Yes indeed, a great gift for you - they are still in use today. I was in charge of film showings at school 'AV CLUB ETC', so that brought back some great memories! Enjoy your find Ricky! Great vid by the way...

  • the so called light bulb you call the sound light is a exicter lamp the 16mm film is opictial sound ,however some projectors mostly 8mm or super 8 film had a audio tape strip on the side they were not the same type sound as the 16mm films however I do have some mag type 16mm films that will not play on the 16mm sound projectors the round sound head is called a sound drum.

  • AWESOME!!! I'm still trying to find me one of them projectors; I got a couple 16mm film reels from the mid '90s promoting the DeVry institute lol and i wanna watch them lol. And maybe a 16mm film camera so i can shoot my own movies... AWESOME! Also, I had no idea the sound on film was recorded like that, it's kinda cool. I always thought that black strip on the opposite side of the film was the magnetic tape.

  • cool projectorI have seven of them and all work great, i also have a lot of cool films, and just love the Bell and Howell , they were made to last, and last...you can get films and blubs off Ebay and at good prices ,still a lot of people use theses machines, and lots of film clubs around, every summer I show some films in my yard and have friends over and pop corn...hang on to this one my friend..I have several for when you might need a part.

  • You were at the right place at the right time to get that. And for free from the school. With film too. I still need to find film for mine. I want to find a 16mm film movie camera. Congrads on getting it. Your school give it to the right person. The Cassette Master. :)

  • I would recommend cleaning the film gate every few showings with some compressed air. you would be surprised how much damage a few specs of dust can do to a film.

  • you're so lucky. does the projector have automatic threading? most Super 8mm and Dual 8mm projectors thread automatically. do you collect 8mm or Super 8mm?

  • It has autoload, but it doesn't work right. I don't have any 8mm film things.

  • you sound tired lol the beginning had me loling

  • i have the 8mm version of this. itwas pretty much brand freakin new. and worked like a kitten. till my grandma knocked it over in the dark! the bulb is raplacable but now i have to spend money on spindle repairs! ugh.

  • Does the 8mm one have sound? If it does, is it by light or magnetic tape?

  • Super 8 or 8mm never had an optical soundtrack. It was either magnetic or silent.

  • mine is an early attempt from 1965 that has a cassette player that does two track recording as opposed to 4 track, therefore you only record on one sde of the tape. the other track is a time code that is synchronized with the film when recording with the camera through the use of a specialised cable (i dont have to cables that connect the cassette recorder to the camera or the projector, or the camera, i have a higher end camera, but is silent) the time code synchronizes back during projection.

  • 8mm tapes do have sound there is sommething called super 8 sound or super 8

  • Very neat toy. I hope you can get many more reels for it. You might ask around at school, some other teachers may have some.

  • Did anyone else notice that there was a different voice speaking after he points to the Projector? That was me =]

  • that is awesome and wow i like audio setup on it too. i hope you get a free record player from school someday.

  • Hey Ricky, I you haven't seen it you may wanna check out "The RCA 16mm Sound Projector - 1957 Promo Film" on YouTube.

  • I wish they should put those old cartoons on your Bell & Howell 16mm projector with Mickey Mouse, Tom & Jerry, Bugs Bunny, Mighty Mouse and many other cartoons on your projector. That would be a great idea.

  • I had one of those as well!!

The mech is very complex and it's best to keep an eye on it as the film can melt if it gets stuck.

  • Were you laughing at the very beginning?

  • Yes.
