I love this box. It sounds VERY 90's, more than other grooveboxes of its time. Gets me nostalgic for old dance and rave, or old Sega game sound tracks.
Man,you sure know how to use the roland 505.Ive got one too since copple of months now.I`m learning it everyday, but i still have lots to learn. Can you please tell me wich patch you use on line 7? I`ts got that smoothy sound.I see you playing with the envelope for the effect.Well thanks, hope you responce.Grtz Coen Tilburg Netherlands
nice track there my man. Got one of these bad boys in the house havent really got too deep in it as yet. but my laptop is broken so its time to learn.
@BeatzFollower I have one, not played with it for a few years, payed £1200 for the thing, if you take the time it can do some amazing stuff, I ruled at a house party with it on new years eve 1999/2000
Very nice pad sounds - not sure what you're doing but I don't recall those sounds from the MC505 - bass seemS on the light side tho - nothing driving it forward ? due to the recording onto youtube?
Please check and give some feedback on my new upload made with the MC505 if you will
I feel like not alot of people get into really heavy patch programming on the 505, and that's the best way to really tease stranger sounds out of it. You can tell the presets from a mile away and the patch edit function is rich enough to turn out some really multilayered tech grooves.
i agree, this groovebox has many ways to edit your own patches, you can get strange sounds from it, it is not necessary that you use the presets only, it is true, you can tell the presets from a 1000 miles je je,,but if you really get into it and edit, you will find it like went down to a diamond mine and rescue some jewells, of course like the mines, it is problably that you invest many time digging it ,,,
@ddaynyc i agree, if you invest time in editing your own patches, you can produce more colors, dont know why most of the people use its factory sounds.
I guess because it's easier... I think less people really explore their synths these days, what with the prevalence of store bought sound packs and endless banks of software synths.
they sell loads of 'em on the internet, the mc505 had a shitty LCD screen and a lot of folks needed replacements. just google it. Cool thing is you can get 'em in different colors, like blue and purple!
totally worth the time.
the lines are starting to die on my screen too. time for a replacement.
@hoodwink808 hey dude mines in the shop now $370.00 to fix the screen, watsons electrical in brisbane. Call then they should be able to hook you up in your area. The new screen is from another model as the manufacture went bust, hence shit lcd screen. They have to modify it to make it fit. Hope this helps.
I'm lookin' forward to buy this machine, but I've some question befor I bought.
Is possible to link this machine with ableton, when ableton will be drum-machine [with plugins VST from d16 group], and mc-505 will be sound module and fx processor?
I need a chain like this:
505 -> [linked by MIDI] ableton -> 505 audio for an studio mixer, and pc audio for an 2nd channel on a studio mixer -> mixer master -> audio interface linein [recording].
yeah, i use ableton & 5-oh together. you can send midi messages to 5-o , from live, to control anything in the 5-o's memory. and yes audio back into computer to record, for use in live. it can go all oyer. at smetime i rewire reason4 into live. you can also hook a keyboard controller to 5-o to bypass those rediculous keys it has.
im planning to buy one of these.. im gonna make an electronic band w my mates... so i decided i think i need one of these... i have a roland SP-404.. but i dunno if it'll do the trick its more of a sampler.. hows this for a live pa band? i think it should be just nice right? comments please.. nice track btw ;)

is it possible to use this together with ableton??
derlig 3 years ago
of course, you can use it as a normal midi expander or synchronize the internal sequenzer via midiclock

i would recommend you the yamaha rs-7000. it has more features and a better handling for live...
tubeuser303 3 years ago
not bad, but as a mc505user myself, u should customize your sounds more, they nearly all preset sounds
mentalmistake 3 years ago
of course the mc505 has much abilities to customize sounds, but i also love some of the presets...
tubeuser303 3 years ago
how do you make your song? Any software sequencer for roland mc 505?
Malekas85 3 years ago
no, it's only the internal sequencer with one pattern performed in realtime as seen in the video...
tubeuser303 3 years ago
but your sound is very good... How do you recorder your song? thank you...
Malekas85 3 years ago
i record it with the soundcard of my pc and do a little mastering after that (compressor, eq...)

thanks!!!
