how do you know that the kexts in initrd.img are getting loaded?
if you use isolinux/syslinux then you have the following in the config file (isolinux.cfg for instance):
default ./mcat.32 ./boot --- initrd.img
don't remember if the mcat.32 is correct, but something of this sort... So anyhow, thing is mcat.32 loads into the RAM the boot sector, and initrd.img at specific mem location and passes this location to boot.
