@geoff1945 Yes, but I like your version better!:-) Really. It was a song from my Childhood. My mother used to sing it for me. I was searching for it for such a long time.
I didn't know that there was a band who made it... I know, bad! So, now you are in my favorites too!:-).( If you are okay with it.)
Thanks for the reminder about folk traditions. I read a story by Tom Paxton in which he foreworded, "Many storytellers will retell this in their own way as is their right......' Later, I heard the story told by the Spinners. Some years on I told it in a school and an old guy asked me where I had heard the story. I said it was my favourite folk group in the 60s who told it. He said,"actually we didn't tell it that way but I like your version better" He was Tony Davis. Small world!
Yes, folk is an acquired 'taste' I think I liked it best when 'The Strawberry Hill Boys' metamorphosed into 'The Strawbs' and Bob Dylan shocked the folk world and went electric.
that will be cool my friend, we play wiskey in the jar, wild rover, home boys home, Molly malone,Weile Waile and Spanish lady. thats easy songs,so we can play it well, lol. so its good for me, because i play just 1 year guitare, but i now this songs all maybee 10 years.
Ok, it will be cool , maybe we record it, and i show it to you here on youtube next week.
Beautiful job my friend. its a litle bit hard to understand everything, so thanks for put the lyrics on the information. sounds awesome, what guitare did you play in this video?`and how was the 'open mike' night in Chester on Sunday Night`?
Ok, have a great week my friend. Ps: your moonshadow cover is awesome. i love it.
Next weekend we can play here in the irish pub, just a half our and just some easy simple irish folk songs. there are a lot of other bands here in this town who played better then us, but drinking and eating is free for us all the night, so it will be cool. lol ;)

Thanks Johnny. I have got a bit stuck on the style but I do like the sound especially when the bouzouki is behaving itself.
Thanks for the 'friend' bit by the way.

LOL I like your Video description.
This is a nice ever so slightly altered rendition.
I remember rushing out and buying the Album only to be shocked at my first suffering of folk music which has continued for over 30 years.

Danke Chris, mein freund.
The instrument is a 'bouzouki'. It is a Greek instrument with four pairs of strings.
I tune it to guitar tuning.
'Open- mike' went very well and a girl from the audience joined me to sing harmony to 'Moonshadow'.
When are you playing again?

This sounds good, Chris. I'll try to put on an Irish song for you to learn before the weekend.
