  • one of the greatest movies ive ever seen.

  • I've only heard of this film today! I watched it and my god it is one of the best films ever!

  • @MrFryhead957 This sort of comment just makes my day, love to see people still finding out about this under-appreciated film, :D

  • @Feddex123 thanks dude. this film is absolutely amazing

  • I absolutely loved the way Chris Evans committed to his role in this. When actors feel their parts, it makes a film more emotional for audiences. I really hope he does something similar with his new film Puncture. I have been waiting to see it, being based on a true story I know the film will be powerful. If you don’t know anything about it, this should help: facebook .com/PunctureFilm.

  • love this film. every time i watch it i just become completely absorbed into it's world. the feeling is always the same, it's definitely a comfort scifi film.

criminally underrated. the amount of people who have never heard of it is sad.

  • Ah, 240p. We meet again.

  • This always brings tears to my eyes

  • One of my all time favorite scenes. so beautiful and calm, gives me a moment to realize how there are much bigger things out there and how small we are.

    -"We are all star dust"

  • Thank you for posting this! SOOO beautiful!x

  • i dont get this movie can someone please give me a little summary about it.

  • @fuckyeah149 The sun is dying and earth is being frozen. They are sent to the sun to place a new star inside the sun so that the earth and everyone on it will live. Its a VERY good movie and it changes the way you think about the outside world to.

  • this is how I imagine space flights, definitely nothing like movie Armagedon

  • I love this scene, it's so surreal. Here's Earth and every living thing on the planet (Humans, animals and plants) facing an unavoidable death, yet everything else in the galaxy and the universe goes on like normal as if nothing was happening.

  • Whenever I watch this, I'm overcome with a sense of peacefulness

  • Wow..thanks for posting this.

  • this makes me calm

  • It's funny you get so used to seeing the same things everyday you forget how much actually goes on all the time. Everyone see's what goes on in their life through their eyes but it's just one person. Then you try to imagine everything that is going on in this one planet while you're typing this message, then you go a step farther and try to imagine what goes on in other planets, solar systems, galaxys, or even the universe at any one moment, and it's almost impossible to even imagine.

  • Such a brilliant film.

My friends know not to watch this when I'm around because I can't help but burst into fits of hysterical, euphoric tears and laughter at the end...it must be very awkward for them :)

  • @Kerouac0deciple you're sick and need help.

  • @docd1o1 people, whether you like the movie or dislike it, everyone is entitled to their opinion. I think it is subjective anyway and I personally love this movie and this scene in particular and if anyone doesn't, I pity them because they cannot appreciate the beauty in things. I have watched it several times and it gets better each time. I would concur with a previous comment that it must be watched on a BIG screen and surroundsound - Breathtaking!!

  • The producers of this could really put something into a Mass Effect movie, with all the different planets and whatnot......and the mining... the endless..mining. |xP

  • Astonishing

  • i really liked the music from this movie - does anyone know where i can acquire the soundtracks?

  • Best scene in the movie. So beatiful and amazing scene. Plus the music for this scene is magical.

  • @atti97 I agree. Best scene. It gives me goosebumps.

  • One of my favorite movie scenes of all time. Words can hardly describe it.

  • I always watch this scene again whenever I have a bad day. It reminds me that theres more to life then just loneliness

  • @Qb3ify same here

  • @Qb3ify I feel you buddy.

  • It's interesting how such sublime moments like these make people bash each other, we are so pathetic. GROW UP PEOPLE!!!

  • I crapped my pants when they said the distress call they picked up was from the original Icarrus.

  • the sun is god... it created life on earth... it allows life on earth, and as it dies in this movie, they have to go revive it. strange how the crazy guy sabotages that shit and they all get fucked (but they were all going to die anyway). he was up there 7 years talking to god. but i dont get why he didn't just send the cube into the sun to keep it going, if he was enjoying speaking to the dying "god" so much, any ideas? thoughts on meanings? or is it all just sci fi trip into outer space?

  • @kingpoop69 Well personally I see it as space illness + solitude + the whole gravity of the situation (sun diying = extinction of life on Earth).

So he becomes over time a totally paranoid madman, thinking he can hear and speak to God,which he seems to identify as the Sun itself.

I also recall him saying not to mess with God's will or something like "who are we to decide what the Sun is to become"..

I really don't see any specific meaning to this, except that Sun is in a way, GOD. the god RAH :)

  • after 2001 space odyssey and blade runner, there is sunshine !

  • I love this movie.

  • Probably one of the great feel good scenes out there! I loved this scene, the music is absolutely perfect for it. Just imagine seeing that!!

  • @silver01kai The Sun actually leaves me in awe when seeing this scene more than Mercury. Just imagine seeing it at that range! I'd probably be just as obsessed with the observation room as Searle and Kaneda if I were on board that crew. No one can comprehend the size or activity that goes on in the Sun. I myself already have trouble comprehending the Earth's mass, lol.

  • @booste30 It's just unbelievable isn't it!! This film has got to be one of my favourites!! It really brings out the enormousness of the sun and what effect it has on us! Like the moth to the flame! I would cry just seeing Earth from space! Brilliant.

  • @silver01kai Totally agree, dude. This film is a one of a kind. It really brought the feeling to what our voluminous star (actually small in comparison to most others out in the cosmos, LOL), as well as outer space, gives you when you actually permit yourself to such an understanding. When I look up in the sky today, the Sun isn't just the Sun to me anymore, but something far more, unimaginable in almost every way. I can't even fully describe it, lol.

  • @silver01kai You see, I view regular everyday things or occurrences with way more insight above norm (I don't mean to sound arrogant or anything, but maybe the people around me are just plain simpletons, heh).

  • @booste30 Its just incredible! I read bill bryson recently and he made me realise what is actually out there, but just watching this video which isn't even real brings chills, happiness and a sense of desperation to go out and see it all for real! I would give anything to be able to do that!! NASA are asking people for the mars mission ONE WAY it got me thinking lol. You're right you cannot describe it and just imagine the feeling if you were sat there watching what they are watching in the vid!

  • This scene is one of my favorite parts in the movie. It's so surreal about how it shows how meaningless the human race is on a universal scale. Here's Earth and everything on it facing certain death but everything else in the solar system and even in the universe keeps going like nothing is happening.

  • @johncase7777 "Jon, what about the war? You've got to prevent it! Everyone will die!"

"And the universe will not even notice. We've been through this before. You argued that human life was more significant than this excellent desolation, and I was not convinced."

Looks like you're on the right track =).

  • @booste30 When did I say anything about a war?

  • @johncase7777 Uhhh, you didn't, lol. I was just quoting from Dr. Manhattan from the graphic novel on his view of humanity's value and how it mirrors what you said.

  • @booste30 Oh OK

  • @booste30 It's was because I thought you left the h out of Jon so I thought it was something I said. LOL and I never seen The Watchmen so I didn't get where that was coming from.

  • @johncase7777 Oh, lol. Well, judging from where your coming from, you'd really like it. It expresses outlooks on life that are really in depth, and is not a typical movie that's for sure.

  • Awesome movie , from the unknown cast i thought it would be a bad movie but it was an amazing Film

  • @rm04ever Hahaha unknown cast. Everyone in that cast is major. Cillian (Kappa) played Scarecrow in Batman. Rose (white girl) is in tons of movies. Chris Evans (Mason) is the new Captain America. Everyone else is major.

  • john murphy + underworld = eargasm

  • the visual style of this scene actually pulled me out of reality. It looks SO much like you're actually seeing mercury rotate around the sun that it just blows my mind. The cinematographer for this film was a genius. totally sucked me in.

  • Loooove the music.

  • UNREAL scene

Just watched Prof Brian Cox's 'Shadow of the Sun", his time and advice to Danny Boyle on set was discussed e.g why plants were vital on the ship for oxygen replenishment & so carefully monitored etc

It made me want to watch this scene, Iconic! John Murphys track is perfect

  • too bad they all die at the end....

  • they should test the stellar bomb on mythbusters

  • @popolynn2 lolol

  • look at the sun. that's not good

  • @Gia,

dont you think Prof Brian looks a bit similar to Cillian Murphy?

    sincerely

    Sai

  • @tatapudi It's done on purpose, of course.

  • staaplar

Are you a Fuckin Jap!!! You sound like one, And sound like a cunt. You've got no clue as to the universe you live in......sad.

  • @fastmclaren71 Racist little cunt. Don't you know a fucking troll when you see one?

  • @Xinadium sorry, didn't mean to offend anyone. (Waz pissed at time) only staaplar!

  • I guess I have to see this movie now to feel better about Chris Evans playing Cpt. America... All I've seen of him is Human Torch.

  • Chris Evans is our new Captain America! Can't wait!

  • staaplar. you've obviously seen this film then? Which means you like space and discovering were we came from. so why are you so Thick?

  • The most beautiful and calming scene in the movie. It makes me think of Earth and how beautiful it is and how fortunate we are to be able to survive here.

  • I wish this part was longer. : )

  • Me too my friend....me too.

  • relax guys. this idiot just wants attention. Mommy and Daddy ddint hug him enough.

  • 0:33-0:35- that was such a Danny Boyle touch. I love it! The background color, the crew staring at mercury, the color, it's genius!!

  • whats the song

  • @Unicycler12 Mercury by John Murphy

  • This song is called: Mercury. Its number 5 on the soundtrack if I'm not mistaken. Anyway, I hope this helps.

  • @staaplar. It was an amazing film STFU and get out.

  • @staaplar

I'm not sure what you are trying to accomplish here... Why even click the link if you hate the movie so much? Its like a going to the concert of a band you hate, and booing them the entire time... If you really need this much attention, then seek professional help. You've got lots of mommy and daddy issues that need attending.

  • shut up it was a very good movie

  • You know what "staaplar"?

    FUCK OFF.

  • @engeladam409 AGREED, he comments the same lame shit on every sunshine video, this is the 5th ive seen so far

  • Don`t stare at the sun too long, idiots.

  • its funny if a solar flare occurs when theyre near it, it doesnt matter what they have for protection theyd be fried by massive amounts of radiation and heat, not to mention it would literally "blow" them away from the solar winds. it's relatable to being at ground zero of an atomic blast, but 1000x bigger! maybe if they had a powerful electromagnetic generator or something, but even long-time exposure to that would cause problems...

  • Best scene in the film.

  • Space...everything out there..my greatest passion.

  • Man I fucking love space.

  • The CGI in this movie is so real

  • That image of Mercury looks like it had been taken by an Earth-based telescope. If you were to actually orbit Mercury, the sun would not appear that large. However, if you used a telescope, the limited FOV would result in an image similar to the one in this scene.

  • lighting, sound, perfect scene

  • the best scene ever !

  • Ughh...Fascinating!

There was one thing I didn't get. Why didn't they name the movie Icarus?

  • @salriggione sunshine sounds more.. appealing.. i guess..

  • Really...huh. LOL! Love that song, or score, not really sure what it is, but it's in Capa's jump scene. Best movie I saw, last year.

  • Appealing if i wanted to see a light-hearted comedy... its perfect title would be "To the Sun"..

  • I hope you saw it for what it really was.

  • because thats what the mission of the crew is about. about sunshine. you may noticed that the earth is in some kind of winter (forgot how they called it) and they are the ones who are giving them their sunshine back. even if the main part of the film deals about the story of the people and their problems on this spaceship.

  • I just got this on Blu-Ray dvd. Its a great movie made even better. It looks & sounds FANTASTIC in HD on an lcd screen.

  • Next to 2001: a space odysee, this is the only movie that conveys the emptiness and vastness of space for me and our insignificance in it. The mere thought of it all makes me crazy. Still, everyone should think about it once in a while, in order too just let go of pitty little everyday problems ;) As Pinbacker said, we are stardust. In the end, he had the wrong attitude, though^^

  • @hudson0815 I agree totally. :)

  • Great Great Movie!

    We're nothing but stardust..

  • The track is called "Mercury" by John Murphy

  • its thee best film.. AND YES THIS IS MERCURY ;)

  • this movie is amazing! the music is so good. i have the soundtrack. :)

this scene is so awesome as well.

  • BTW, Harvey is the only one that stares down, because he just wants to go home, and looking at Mercury would just remind him, how far away they are. Because of this scene he's my favorite crew-member, I can identify the most with him.

  • Thanks for pointing that out, very interesting - I missed it myself

  • @hudson0815 You know I never really realize that but that was a nice touch by the director :D

  • @hudson0815 I've watched this movie a lot and never really knew why he stared down, but it makes sense. I always thought he was overwhelmed with the beauty of it, that he had to look away to not break down and look weak.

  • @hudson0815 but he can't go home

  • @hudson0815 as you described it, this is possibly the most sensitive scene ever made. and we like it. what i don't get is how is it possible to dislike such a thing... 4 dislikes. for God sake... too much for me.

  • @CardiacCrysis this scene is so sensitive and it says so much but they say nothing and it's just...Mercury.

  • @hudson0815 at the end of the movie, i hated harvey but from this scene, he makes me feel weak at the knees. he looks very sweet.

  • @hudson0815 Am I the only one who thinks that we should chosen someone to do that risky mission which the future of mankind depends on from people who are not afraid of death or not coming back home ever again? If the survival of our kind depends on my life, I'd offer it gladly! It doesn't seem Harvey thinks this way.

  • @hudson0815 Harvey was my least favorite. The way he acted when they were leaving the Icarus I was despicable, irrational, and selfish, and "being homesick" is not much of an excuse.

  • @technicallyabsurd True. This scene always makes me feel sorry for him though.

  • could anyone tell me whats happening in this scene! not watched film but got to write an essay on this scene!

  • mercury...the name of the song

  • what is the name of the song of this video?

  • mercury

  • song is called 'mercury'. The sunshine film soundtrack can be downloaded on iTunes. I've got it and its brilliant :)

  • if we are still here in 5 billion years when our sun begins to die then we may actually have to do something like this.. however i beleive that by then we would have probably blown ourselves up in some sort of war anyway

  • we are the first creature on this earth able to save it and its inhabitants from destruction, but we destroy it and everything on it including ourselves instead... what does that tell us about humanity?

  • just...beautiful..if youve seen the film you'll know what i mean when i say the music when Capa jumps gives me shivers.

  • aye the visuals along with the music are stunning. they really bring out the beauty of space and let your imagination wonder. The deleted scenes are great too :D

  • agreed :D

  • we're doing it in film stuides. i absultly adore it!! its amazin! the music makes me want to cry!

  • i am also doing it for film studies.....its amazing none of the girls like it though.....

  • yes! I love it when Searle finds the crew of Icarus I, and you hear the eery transmission of the distress beacon. That sends shivers!

  • This scene is easily one of my favourite moments captured on film; utterly beautiful.

    Thanks for uploading.

  • what a beautiful film.

  • It´s one hell of a beautiful film, it´s just to bad, that they´ve had to fuck it up with all the killing in the end.. But that´s just my point of view.

  • i disagree because the reason for that was that everything comes to an end and mankind will be extinct just like the other animals that went to extinct, he was trying to stop them cause no matter what if you try to do to keep man on earth longer wont matter cause well still die off

  • Maybe : / So let´s say ur right.. Doing nothing won´t do anything even thoug u tried, BUT... We could (maybe) extend our life period. As an exampel if it was a war, a catastrophy, Try to follow :P i mean, i don´t think that we can prevent everything bad to happen, but we can at least try to extend the dead line, and let it happen (pepared), like the tsunami, people werent warned, so eventually they didnt have a big chance of survival in the dangereous zones..

  • But i dont know what could´ve been done against something as huge as what we are seeing in this film. But hey, it was only a film : ) could a least make an alternativ ending :P

  • Comment removed

  • i agree, this scene is amazing. But i think the killing at the end made the movie much more heroic and added more emotion to it.

  • true.. true... :P

  • OHHH I FOUND WALDO XD hes on mercury

  • this looks very beautifull i love this scene, it looks so real to. just amazing

  • Thanks to John Murphy, Underworld, and Danny Boyle. This movie is in my top 3.

  • For those who dont know the guy who wrote the music for Sunshine has a facebook page, "John Murphy - Film Composer". you can talk to him

  • Is it good that this scene put a tear in my eye?

  • @islanumblar Believe me, it's good :)

  • @islanumblar im just like you..this scene is...wow

  • 6 billion ppl in the world and hardly none of them relize that this is happening all the time.....were just floating around a big ball of fire its pretty crazy and ever crazyer things are happening outside our solar system...but in all the chaos there is a sence of order..its really cool.

  • @ lattask8er

Very true, people think that life on this planet is the only thing there is, while our planet is nothing but a sand grain in a desert called our solar system, and our solar system is a grain in the universe.. and so one...

Our minds can't understand the magnitude of it all, so we grasp to what is close to us, and hold on it tightly whether it's good or evil

  • love it?

  • i watched this film twice in a week truely amazing, danny boyle is my fav director

  • LOOOVE this scene. Don't know what it is about it but I always get teary eyed. Maybe cause I know I'll never be able to see Mercury like this, maybe because it's a reminder of all the mass that makes up the universe and how insignificant we are in the scheme of things. Wish the whole movies kept this theme up instead of the end.

  • a truly brilliant film, some films in life you can watch again and again,, this is one of those, great clip love the ambiant music in this scene.

  • I this moive in Spain, soi never knew what the hell was going on.

  • My favorite scene from the movie.

  • This whole movie was amazing, Had not heard much on it while in theaters. Parts of the movie where you get that awesome tingle, like this one! =)

  • the music really brings out the emotion in the clip

  • Watch the facial expressions of all the characters. "A picture says a thousand words."

  • sunburn time!

  • Cant explain why this movie that I saw maybe 30 times is different from others movies in space. More beautiful, poetic, and something more I can't explain. To all those who have seen the horibble trailer who try to present a "armagedon" bis. Just forget it and watch this movie.

  • That's why I didn't watch this movie when it came out , I thought it was just a cheap action Sci-Fi. Now ,you've got me interested in it :)

  • Comment removed

  • there reason for this its because its a story that hasnt happened yet...when they sun does die out and humans are still around they might in fact try to attempt this

  • this scene just moves me..i dont know why but it makes me feel warm..

  • one of my favorites, doesn't feel at all like just another space movie, it's so different.. like a beautiful thriller, so hard to explain why i love it

  • exactly the same with me

  • Comment removed

  • hahah they have the little viewing room nimrod. plus enything can be guided by computer

  • anyone know the name of the song playing through the film clip?
