  • What music are they using for the re release of WKRP?

  • @Tungzout Kim Wilde

  • 'Pigs on the Wing' is how Mr. Carlson got the idea to drop the turkeys out of the helicopter on Thanksgiving.

  • This is weird because Doctor Johnny Fever is me and Mike Johnson is the station manager the way I see it here at the Theodora in Seattle,Washington! I'm a HUGE Pink Floyd fan!

  • I'm guessing do to copyright issues this isn't on the DVD releases of the show.

  • awesome as heck! this is a bad ass jam

  • I actually remember this episode,, as I do most.. favorite show when I was in "HI" school....

  • this was on thre syndicated re runs a few years ago...now not avaliable anywhere unless it is in syndication elsewhere 9or you get the full seriews on bootlegs with all the original music) if it is in syndication anywhere in the usa, i wonder if it still has the original music...

  • @goldlessbassist ... i do !

  • Best freaking song, 17 minutes of pure bone chilling awesomness

  • @goldlessbassist "I do"

  • I do...

  • SEAMUS... that's the dog he's outside

  • @spcmn77 Roger got pissed i guess.

  • Greatest album to get high on ,,and can change the way we think ..

  • LSD IS GOOD FOR YOU

  • Screw the haters who talk crap about holding cameras in front of the TV, if someone hadnt been doing just that, I would have never seen this.

  • I miss this show.............

  • **Classic** Johnny Fever! Great!

  • Ol' days, smoking what?

  • I remember this episode. This was a good show.

  • If only the music industry would understand the concept of free advertising rather than worrying that they miss out on some direct profits. This has never made sense to me. I do believe artists & labels have the right to approve where the work is used, but it should then be given freely, or for a tiny portion of future earnings, or at the most a reasonable industry-wide standard fee.

  • This was the reason it took many years for the DVD release, despite a popular demand for them. FOX decided to release the product with dubbed music, dialogue, and cut scenes so that they could finally get some video into our living rooms. The worst edits by far are in the "Tiny Dancer' episode which I don't belive has been released yet (but did air on some syndication broadcasts).

  • @live4radio And it wouldn't be worth the attempt for an old show like this.

  • @spcmn77

It's not just Pink Floyd. There are licensing issues with record companies, artists, writers, and everyone who can get their fingers into the bowl. FOX currently owns the publishing/distribution rights to WKRP. I understand that they tried to acquire the rights for original music, but because there were so many songs that appeared in the various episodes, tracking down all of the license holders and reaching amicable agreements became virtually impossible. (con't)

  • I'm going to start using Johnny's line in every day life.

Her: "Honey, would you take out the garbage?"

    Me: "I don't do requests."

  • fuck Cbs networking .

  • They chopped off the scene in the DVD's. Borderline sacrilege. I wish they hadnt even bothered to make them.

  • during the 1990's a UHF station THE WB decided to show this, I videotaped it THE ORIGINAL MUSIC WAS STILL INTACT I should have saved those VHS...then later a cable station showed the show, ORIGINAL MUSIC STILL IN TACT

bootleg copies of the full show with all original music is avaliable!

  • Of all the many good things about this program, Gordon Jump may have been the best.

  • Awesome! Dogs from Animals!

  • CLASSIC!!! I remember this back in the day, very funny. Thanks.

  • I never heard that, but PINK FLOYD has/had? the most incredible guitar player in the world.

  • Sometimes i wonder what Roger Waters thinks of this show using his song on one the best historical episodes ever.

  • Pink Floyd "Animals"

  • My first week from home at the age of 18 was at a YMCA in Hollywood CA. I had nothing but my cloths and a Walkman with a Pink Floyd Animals tape. The Y was smelly, stuffy and blazing hot. This was the 2nd week of September 1984. I couldn't open the windows because there were bars on it and it was bolted shut. I was afraid to leave the room most of the time because I was just a suburban white kid that had no city skills whatsoever. The Pink Floyd tape was my comfort zone and to this day still is.

  • I have seen every episode. I have them all on tape. I know them all almost by heart; and many of them are brilliant! The "turkey drop" is not my favorite.

  • @winecrafter you should start selling them, I couldn't find anything except the first season which was chopped up :)

  • @knickknack07

    that's rude.

  • @goldlessbassist rude, but funny

  • @knickknack07 It's epileptic brain cell.

  • @knickknack07 Exploration of concept of bad attitude suggested.....Insulting people for who they are and someone sharing are not attributes of a friend magnet....Opinion deserved...

  • @knickknack07 If you are going to make comments, then you need to be able to spell. The word is EPILEPTIC. You have a spellcheck, don't you rude person?

  • @knickknack07 ...........the fuck is wrong w/ you, dude?

  • @knickknack07

Let's see you do it better. Find the clip and upload it. Receive many pats on the back.

    Otherwise, kwitcherbitchin. Seriously.

  • "as god as my witness, I thought turkeys could fly" ... is one of the best delivered lines in the history of television...

  • @b017ni3 that and les nessmen warning about the 'godless tornadoes'

  • Man this seems like a great sitcom, and I'm from cincinnati so that's how I heard about it, my stepdad told me there was a show based in cincy, and I didn't think there was. I wonder if I could get it somewhere with the real music in it, I'd love to see it.

  • What's really bad is on the DVD release this entire conversation and the music are gone because the Musicians Union is full of greedy bastards....luckily I have an original set dubbed from old beta tapes without generic music and without editing

  • @GR8SCOT22 Me too! And I also bought a bootleg set on DVD with all the commercials and everything! I want to post it.

  • I couldn't imagine hearing "Dogs" on FM radio now. If it's not fucking Skynard or Bad Company they aren't going to play it.

  • @jettablak Not to mention it's also a 17-minute song. You can't do that, because when will you be able to cram in the commercials otherwise? Gotsta feed the beast, you know ...

  • We were one fucked up generation.

Now it's just so sad and sell out

  • Yes, the turkey drop episode! 'Pigs on the Wing' gave Carlson the idea to drop the turkeys.

  • Check out @HalfPricedHearts first music video for "Lacy Let's Go"!!

  • Man, I *really* wish they could get all the rights to the original music to put the DVDs out properly! This was such a great show!

  • I believe this was from the famous "Turkey Drop" episode.

  • Hilarious. Man, that was such a good show, great characters, would like to see the episode where they were running from the "phone police". Or when Johnny Fever thought God wanted him to become a pro golfer.

  • @daven58100 yea yea

the phone police ,ha ha ha

    im from cincy,

cincys pretty lame BUT this show was a trip

  • Wow, I haven't seen this clip in years and wouldn't you know, the magic show is still there. When you watch clip such as this one, you realize how pathetic today's shows happen to be. To be frank, I slowly distanced myself from standard tv shows following the end of Seinfeld. It seems all of today's writers only managed to create garbage. Thankfully, there are now quality alternatives such as HBO and other producing companies who refuse to release programs which only insult our intelligence.

  • Very cool!

  • This whole scene is pretty much cut out of the DVD version. Shame.

  • WKRP ROCKED! Along with Taxi,The Jeffersons, and All in the Family this was the most hilarious sitcom of all time. Being a die-hard Pink Floyd fan this really cracks me up.

  • @pinkfloydinspace I may look dumb with this question, but what song is Johnny playing in this scene? It IS riveting music!!! Thnx

  • @Trund27 "Dogs", from the album "Animals" (1977). Length 17:07. Johnny was definitely taking a break.

  • @Willondon Thanks very much! Gonna get it immediately. Wish I could afford the record, though!

  • @Willondon

For a really long break he couldve played another PF song, "Echoes" from Meddle

  • @Trund27 It's the songs "Dogs" from the Pink Floyd album Animals. Epic album...one of Floyd's best IMHO.

  • The edited version is terrible. They have generic "rock" music playing instead of Floyd. It doesn't make any sense when the laugh track plays while Mr. Carlson looks confusedly into the speaker anymore since there are no dog sounds for him to be reacting to!

  • Just found the edited version on hulu (hulu.com/watch/322/wkrp-in-cincinnati-turkeys-away). Go to 3:20 for the scene!

  • well i think it is avaliable on the syndicated re runs

    bootleg dvds attest to this

  • What in the nine billion names of ghod did the DVD producers *do* with that scene? Cut it entirely?

  • @utubesnamepolsux They drestroyed a TV series for profit. Why bother to release a series about a DJ who knows real music..and then CUT OUT all the rock and roll songs on the DVD? DONT BUY GARBAGE DVDS BOYCOTT.

  • @DavelovesRealMusic Yes, yes; I'm clear on that. In fact, we picked off all the WGN OuttaSight airings, which have the original music, and my sister lovingly burned them from DVR to DVD by hand for me. I don't know if we got everything; I haven't conformed yet.

  • Dr Johnny Fever FLOYDS out! Mr. Carlson hopefully got to Hear Pigs On The Wing with Snowy White's solo bridge (8 track version)

  • Really, one of the greatest moments ever on tv.

Too bad I was only born that year.

  • What else are you supposed to do while listeniing to a great song!

  • i loved that show -- the cast was so funny

  • that's when rock was being pushed by he media.. shoving it down our throats then..

    thank goodness it died out

  • OMG...RIP Howard...you died in Vegas just a few years ago, but I remember you well.

  • @DatingGameKiller he didn't die, I just checked wikipedia and imdb.com

  • @sabbathtage25 ...You're right, sabbathtage25...he appeared in the 2009 Halloween film. I could have sworn a local newscast said he died while filming a cable TV show here in Vegas a while back. I'm happy to stand corrected! :)

  • Animals just happens to be the best album.

  • They even took out the "Barking Dogs Jingle Bells" song when they put it out on DVD.

Yet another reason why I haven't bought the DVDs

  • "I do". Classic!

  • You really gotta wonder if johnny fever was high when they were filming LOL!

  • background music stripped from DVD issue? That's why I didn't get the Northern Exposure DVDs. If artists don't want their music to live forever on a DVD, then it is disposable art.

  • I remember hearing that back when I was a kid and wanted that album because of the barking dogs lol. And I still love Pink Floyd. See? The subtle advertising worked!

  • Dont Touch That!!!....Givin it all I got!

  • Seamus the dog..........

  • I loved this show!! Still on HULU!!

  • Would Howard Hesseman lie for weed? We don't think so. Order now!

  • I watched this clip and then the version on the dvd release of the first season, and I was sad to see a funny scene cut out of the dvd release because the respective music companies or the RIAA could not work out a good deal with the dvd distributors of this fine show.

  • @hoplight Yes it is very sad that a deal could not be made to include all of the original music, it is not the same. That is the reason that I will not buy the DVDs. I would like to see these episodes as they aired originally.

  • I thought Johnny fever was hot back then!

  • Do I hear dogs barking on that thing? I do..... LOL.

  • I grew up with reruns of all the 70's shows in the 90's and they were way more entertaining than the new stuff.

  • We watch this show in my EMB class sometimes. Classic show, I love it. It is so funny and smart.

  • I do! lolololol!!!!!

  • wow. i remember when tv sitcoms/series were actually smart and entertaining with actual adults. this show was so witty. i hate tv shows today. but i wonder if the 40-year-olds back then said this about WKRP. lol. thanks for posting.

  • you make a good point.. and yeah im sure the old ones in the 70s hated bob newhart and three's company.. but if they were able to also see the sitcoms in the 2000s then they will look back on the 70s with a smile!

  • Good point. And thanks for posting. I love Pink Floyd in this.

  • @goldlessbassist Newhart had a laugh track, he was never THAT funny!!

  • @goldlessbassist Yes agreed. TV Sitcoms now are predictable and boring. There are a few exceptions that make me laugh

  • @goldlessbassist Not true. These shows appealed to 40's year olds and older (as well as younger), they were considered family programming, in other words for the entire family. Unlike today where every show has been so specialized that they appeal to no one. Bob Newhart was in his 40's when he made the Bob Newhart show, The Ropers & Mr. Furley (Don Knotts), etc...these shows had older characters, mature themes, and appealed to adults without being R-rated.

  • @RainPoetry My parents were in their 40's back then and this is one of the few shows they let my brother and I watch. Three's Company also.

  • @RainPoetry Nah, the 40 year olds back then could only harken back to "Father Knows Best" and Uncle Milty in drag.

  • @RainPoetry Good question - I wonder that also.

  • Hello..were the "Scum of the Earth". best sitcom episode ever!

  • I bought season 1 on DVD. My 12 year old nephew came in & started watching it with me. He spent a week watching the shows over & over. He'd never seen a smart sitcom before.

  • im glad he is being introduced to decent entertainment.. as my children will be forced to like 70s and 80s pop culture when they are born

  • @goldlessbassist Right on!!!!!!

  • @kdraper2007 Awesome!!!! It's hilarious when kids watch "old" shows and get hooked on them

  • Shame they took out the real music & replaced it with generic music when they released the show on DVD. Stupid Music industry. passing on free advertising like that. the loss of royalties would have been more then made up by a new generation buying the Albums.

  • good point

  • @kdraper2007 WHAT???!!! THEY DID?? I was going to buy the series on DVD! Crud!!! Just like "Northern Exposure".... Stupid, really. I consider tv shows and movies to be artforms, and you just don't go around messing up art...(Hear me, George Lucas!!)

  • @kdraper2007 ex: I just search for the track and bought it on itunes.

  • @kdraper2007 Amen to that. I guess the music rights were too expensive.

  • I was born 10 years after this show was made and I own every Pink Floyd album!

  • It was intended as constructive criticism. I'm sorry that you were offended by it.

  • I recommend you disregard the comments of ReynaGiles901 and actually purchase the album or CD and enjoy the music in the best quality format also with the picture artwork provided.

Don't rip the Floyd off. OM

  • One word: tripod.

  • two words: Fuck You

  • The generation gap is an amazing thing. A guy Mr. Carlson's age in 2009, in real life, probably owned this and many other albums by this "orchestra."

  • Hell - yeah! :D

  • Pink Floyd & Dr Jonny Fever just seem to go together !!

  • And that was how I first learned about Pink Floyd, when I was 8. It got more intense later in life...

  • "Do I hear dogs barking?"

    "I do"

  • I was sorely disappointed when I got the DVD release of the first season and all the original music had been dubbed, and things like this scene were edited.

IMHO, this was one of the best "sitcoms" of the 80's.

Remember when the letter "B" had broken on the news ticker, and Les announced on air that a "giant lizard was headed towards Cincinnati?" Priceless!

    Thanks for this post 'goldlessbassist'!

  • @RumorControlCenter

That sucks part of what made WKRP so great was the music.

  • I think this and the "Tornado" episode are the BEST moments in WKRP history! I like how Les reacts to the dog sounds on that Pink Floyd song. Les is stupid.

  • I think it's funny you are calling Mr. A. Carlson Les - then say someone is stupid. That's classic. Perfect material for a sitcom. This is NOT the BEST moment in this series by the way.

  • yep-but when i saw this in syndication in the 90's, it was all there. the dvd has this full thing edited out without the joke...WOW!!! but in syndication it is still there...

  • Thanks for sharing ! *****

  • great old show--glad you liked it too, man

  • thank you BMB for this video share 5 stars pink floyd for life cheers sean

  • i knew you'd like it

  • you can not beat the old stuff vhs tapes

    album tv shows cheers sean

  • Wasn't aware PF's music was rare on the show. There was always the Dark Side of the Moon poster in the hall though. Didn't know original songs were cut out of episodes either. Grew up on WKRP in Cincinnati.

  • Started watching wkrp on hulu- didn't realize the original songs aren't in the episodes anymore. So f'n disappointed. Would love to see the clip when Johnny is jamming in the booth to Van's Caravan. Anyone got that?

  • Is that Art Bell?

  • Looks like Johnny did the Wakey - Bakey again.

  • I never use this word, but it is the only word to describe Johnny in this scene: groovy

  • gotta love Johnny

  • is this shit hardcore or what? i mean. . . shit

  • damn you`re unswell

  • Fantastic!! Favorite classic show with my favorite band!

  • i bought this LP when it came out in '77 and I still listen to it today. I love this song. i didn't watch this show too much, though.

  • When the copyright runs out on the songs featured in WKRP...we'll then be able to buy all of the episodes intact on DVD or whatever media flavor of the time will be.

The coyrights should run out in around 30 years. I can't wait. YAY!

  • ROTFL!!!

  • As an overnight DJ In the 90's my boss would show up at like, 2:30. and try to talk to me. i was so high that i sat there and did that. WHatever!

  • Gawd I loved that show!

  • this is the shit

  • niceness! totally! pink floyd on WKRP. nice.

  • They should have not edited out those great songs that were used on WKRP and change them with generic 70s music when they released the first season of WKRP onto DVD. That is what made WKRP not sell well on DVD. And that's why there is no season 2, 3, or 4 on DVD. They won't go through all the trouble of keeping the episodes unaltered and unedited like they were shown to television lovers back in the 70s, 80s, and 90s. It's not that much trouble in the first place.

  • Word, Nebraska.

  • It's not a matter of trouble, it's a matter of money. When the show first aired, production companies paid less royalties for songs if a show was on video, probably because of variety shows. However, they changed this rule in the 90s, which meant that MTM had to pay each artist royalties for each time the reruns aired. Keeping the songs would have made the show prohibitively expensive to air in syndication. DVD just compounded this.

  • These artists who are on these episodes should consider themselves lucky that there songs would have been played on re-runs, considering a lot of the groups whose songs were played on this show are now either A. DEAD or B. PLAYING AT COUNTY FAIRS TO AN AUDIENCE OF 500 people. They are pretty sad to expect a royalty payout 30 years after their career is over. Real musicians would just enjoy that their music is being played again, and would not be interested in royalties on a DVD set in 2009.

  • Well, it's probably their managers/ song publishers who are raising a fuss, and my guess is that it's the bigger artists are demanding the royalties. But still, sometimes royalties are the main income for some artists. I mean, I know it sucks, but I can still understand the reason behind it.

  • Pink Floyd aren't real musicians??!!. The 3 living members are multi millionaires, I shouldn't think they could care less about copyright on a 1:30 clip in a TV comedy. There's loads of stuff of Pink Floyd on YouTube and they aren't exactly doing much about that are they?

  • So if they are multi millionaires, then why can't they just relinquish the rights to have a short clip played on a sitcom from 1979.

  • Perhaps copyright is not the reason? Pink Floyd own the copyright from all their material from Dark Side of the Moon onwards (ie not the record company). Perhaps they objected to how the music was being used, though I doubt whether they would suffer such a sense of humour failure. They even granted permission for that awful Scissor Sisters cover of Comfortably Numb!

  • The Rolling Stones had more songs used than Pink Floyd, The Eagles, The Who, Deep Purple, Supertramp and so forth combined. Styx was used in show TWICE, The Doors were used in same episode. It's the record labels playing hard ball as are some arists and managers. Pink Floyd could care less, the "Dogs" clip is still shown in syndication UNCUT. The Who could care less also. If they released season 3, "Had Enough" would be excised and scene of plane taking off would have classical music.

  • I don't know about that!

Pink Floyd appeared at the former JFK Stadium in Philadelphia on September 19, 1987. JFK seated 102,000 for Army-Navy games, and was replaced in 1996 by what's now called the Wachovia Center.

They were selling general admission on the field that night. There were 120,000+ in that stadium that night (myself included) and it wasn't sold out!

Pink Floyd can still fill just about any stadium today and sell out in minutes.

  • hey big thanks for sendin a message about this rare vid:) my fav album in Animals:). this is really good rare vids:)..n u r welcome for zabriskie point~!

    pf---/\===rules!
