Sounds like you're the racist dude. People like you just CAN'T STAND to hear the truth. As far as apartheid ending? That's been a raging success hasn't it? lol Crime shot through the roof immediately. In this country, I am old enough to have witnessed the demise of civilization in the black community.I grew up in a rural integrated community. My white friends had mothers and fathers and my black friends had mothers AND fathers. Now only about 80% of black babies are born with no father mentioned.
@kperk014 That isn't racism, that's realism. When young blacks would come into my store to apply for a job, if I couldn't understand them I wouldn't hire them. Does no good to hire someone who can't communicate with the customers. The hip-hopper generation is fairly worthless and that goes for the stupid whites who fall into that "I want something for nothing" mode. The young black men and women who worked for me were wonderful people. I admired the fact that they bucked the trend of the majority.
Just as I've known all along. The REAL racist problem in America is in the black community. It eats at them and spills out every chance it gets. Let a black criminal get shot by a policeman in a large city and thousands of blacks who don't even know the criminal will loot, burn buildings and look to assault anyone who isn't black. THAT IS racism, pure and simple. Yes some Americans elected a REAL african-American president. he has shown everyone who the real racists are. Come on November!
Such a myopic and limit perspective shows that the REAL problem with racism begins in your own head. For you to blanket one community, and look at individuals from the perspective that the "problem" begins in a community whose very presence in America is a testament to extensive racism shows that you are predisposed to prejudge someone based on color. Sadly the though isn't even orignial.
...thought isn't even original. Just an extension of the "white man's burden" argument used to justify the slavery, apartheid in South Africa, and Cecil Rhodes conquest of Africa. Damn, if your going to be racist, at least be original.
he made a true classic that if it had of come out in the motown period would have been one of the most memorable songs ever. shame nobody told him semen isn't good for the vocal chords
I was 22 when this song hit the charts, and now after 27 years, It's great to hear it again. I feel bad Dan is gone, but at least we can hear his songs to remember his legacy.
@RayL1983 I'm not sure how things have change. Guys are running around in womens pants and tanning left and right. Theres more gay for pay male pornstars out NOW than there were back then..
Liked Dan when he was singing with the Edgar Winter Group in the 70's. When he went disco in the late 70's it was also cool. Loved him in the 80's when he hit a streak of hits on the radio. One of my favorites, who we lost way too early.
So overwhelmed by this performance that I completely overlooked that is Jeffrey Daniel doing the intro, a music legend in his own right, part of Shalamar, and the same man who was the first to perform a dance that later evolved into Michael Jackson's famous move, The Moonwalk. Michael like many others watched a lot of Soul Train to see the hot new dance moves..
Finally, a version of this great song by the genius who wrote it. I loved the Movie "Streets of Fire" (from which this song was the biggest part of the soundtrack and gave the movie it's tempo and pace) and consider it to be a ground breaking achievement in motion pictures. It was a Rock n Roll fable with the best music score ever for a movie of this type. I quite honestly didn't know that it was Dan singing this song in the movie.. so thank you for posting this genius doing his thing.
I LOVE I Can Dream About You, and Streets of Fire is one of the few DVDs I own because I don't collect them as a rule, mostly because I cut so many video tapes. Niacaraboo-I'm a Jew ashamed of the government of Israel, but many years ago (50) I was an anti-racist activist. Who would have thought back then that this could still be a racist, sexist country.

The host was gay as was the performer. The rest I cannot tell you about because I know nothing about them.
@greggesimmons Yeah , I was around during that time , a kid but yeah I was around . I'm very familiar with how they dressed in the earley 80's with tight pants , long hair and even make-up on guys . But the whole place seems like alot of men up on each other . I understand that he was gay ," Even though I just found out after watching this video he was white and never knew that back then being the video for this song had a black guy singing " . He has alot of soul and I like this song ...
This is fabulous - he's actually singing live. Dan Hartman was sensational in the 1970s in The Edgar Winter Group, having been the guy who sang "Free Ride" along with Edgar. As Hall & Oates mention in concert, Dan wanted them to record this song, but they had another one ready to go at the time, so they passed on this one. However, Hall & Oates perform this song live today!
This is during the time when I had a big success with my dance/disco studio group creation POUSSEZ. Dan had a lot of soul and was a great keyboardist/songwriter. RIP.
Could someone please tell me how Dan Hartman died and when please. I cannot understand allthe fuss why not just enjoy the music over the years many artists have covered songs by other artists some are good some are woeful one good example is a cover by an Australian singer John Farnham of the Beatles song Help which im going to get shot is better then the original.Mr48Steve
My joy in discovering a live version of this classic song was short lived after reading the ignorant, hate filled racist comments. It is 2011, and we elected a black President . Dan Hartman wrote this song. is he not entitled to sing it? Music is color blind. Can we stop thinking in terms of just black and white? Think The Righteous Brothers, Tina Marie, even Tom Jones. Yes, they sound "black". Who cares? Just enjoy the music.
@dscottny .. Ignore the simple minds in here which most likely were deprived of great music and classics fro the 80's. Their life now is the internet, iPhones and their 3000 fake facebook friends. I pitty them.
@dscottny I agree with you, who cares if the person is black, white or green. Our society should be fortunate to enjoy such great music, not this crap that is being played these days.
It is sad that some people can't just enjoy good music. What matters is the talent not the color of the skin. God , are we going backwards or are we going to move forward from this racist mind set. My God , Dr Martin Luther king Jr is still rolling in his grave. God , help us all.
@Niacaraboo ... The ignorance of man is and sometimes disturbing yet, when the truth appears right before your eye's what, can they say? ... The movie is one thing, those boys in the movie did a very good job ... but so did Dan in creating the music. No worries, each time they play the song, he gets the royalties ... its payday forever.
Yeah like most WHITE ARTIST they are only emulating Blacks. only a few of them sing like REDNECKS and thats called Blue Grass. Dolly parton I love her I have gone to her concerts she's one of my favorites but she just sings like HER not ETHNIC but I just like her music. BUt many artist copied blacks and emulate Blacks.
i thnk that he should have just sang his own dam song the whole time. Milli Vanilli Great looks but COULDNT sing.THe Company hired other VOice but he was UGLY. It happens
@WonderWomanFan4life jerry redneck springer would love you on his show. Free plane ride, free rooms, free food and drinks, and ALL YOU GOT TO DO IS ACT NATURALLY, (stupid)
@WonderWomanFan4life probably your baby daddy Why be a hater you said you loved the song until you found out the singer was white. What does that say about you!!!!!
He gave us something incredibly inspirational. Think about this, if he can perform this with so much soul that so many people are under the impression he was black then why can't we give him props for being able to tap into the heart and soul of what this kind of music is all about? What you see up there on that stage is not just "some white dude." He's a talent who had a lot to give to the music world and contributed on many levels in his all too short time on this earth.
And to the 1,000 stupid comments from people unable to understand it, let me explain. DAN HARTMAN (IE THE GUY YOU SEE RIGHT NOW) created this song; he was a producer, vocalist and insane talent, and it was on his own album in 1984. This was used on the movie "Streets of Fire," but in the MOVIE, they had ANOTHER performer named Winston Ford sing it (who you do NOT ever see) and the actor, Stoney Jackson, PRETENDS like it's him singing. GOT IT? GOT IT????? DO WE HAVE A YAY OR NAY?

why do you bitch at the people. they were programmed to believe that a black group sang this song. If you have a problem with PROGRAMMING Then thats your problem You are not a DEPROGRAMMER. Once programmed its very difficult to deprogram subjects. you know that Psych 101. seriously we are victims of super programming. like Black is BAD. White is good. The Indians were the bad guys and the Cowboys were the good guys. Faucet Water BAD and bottled Water good. Blondes are prettiest
You know what i mean. WATCH any movie today. They make is seem like Black people are stupid, on welfare, breathing in all the white mans air, cant manage money, always renting rims, cant pay rent, getting payday loans, nappy hair, wearing wigs, braids, do grow, hair grow, if not that they put all our good black men in fucking DRESSES. Strong black men have to dress like women to make it in hollywood. so screw you, dan hartman and this stupid ass song. White is right black bad
RIP to one of the best. It's really nice to see this soulful, gentle and extremely talented musician and producer and vocalist in his prime. Still missed, Dan. Didn't know you but your song touched my life.
I saw Dan when he was with the Edger Winter Band in Florida. Back in 1972. He Sang and played Bass. but during a break he picked up a Strat and started doing an Hendrix Solo that blue everyone away. Montrose even had a grin on his face. God I miss this guy. One of the most multi talented individuals ever!
This song is from the movie Streets of Fire. The guys you see performing it, are a clip from that movie. I believe they actually did sing it in the movie, but the soundtrack has Dan Hartman singing it. Kinda like when big stars cover disney songs, they don't sing them in the movie, but only on the soundtracks.
@WonderWomanFan4life As a black woman myself, I'm not sure I get your problem with this whole thing. I've seen your comments on a few videos like this one. I gather you're offended that a white man was the creator, writer, purveyor of this song when you were led to believe that it was the actors you saw from the movie clip of Streets of Fire or some other person of color. Why is that a big deal? You claim you like the song, but if it weren't for Dan Hartman there would be no song.
Well in reality. I did like the song but I think I enjoyed the video most of all. I am glad that the bros got paid for pretending that they were Dan Hartman. I still find it DECEPTIVE! But then again the Bartles and James people were fake, So was Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy, Santa Claus, all FAKE.. We are still trying to decide on Jesus based on greatest story ever sold. So The Danhartman thing is just BS. I do not care we are just CHATTING on YT for fun not that serious. really
@WonderWomanFan4life Deceptive? I don't know. I don't believe we were "brainwashed" into buying into the idea that we were watching the music of black men being performed. The band in the movie was black. Someone said to Dan Hartman, "Write us a song with an R & B feel to it for this band in the movie to perform" If I were white and had the talents of Dan Hartman I would consider it a great compliment that I would be considered worthy to write something that could cross color lines.
whell why didnt they get a black man to write a song for BLACK people??? hello you don't think niggas can write songs? Dan hartman can kiss my black ass. basically he wrote a song they didnt think his cracker ass could sell any records so they put these black people on the cover... NO problem... then later he gets all the royalties and these EXTRA players or Day players get hardly no money off their efforts. End of story DUPED..
@WonderWomanFan4life You waste too much effort on hate and feeling resentful for things that don't matter. It's his song, he gets the royalties. Anyone can write a song, but a black man didn't write this, a white man did. Rather than make this into some sort of reparations black people are owed for our contributions, appreciate this music for what it is. Something to be enjoyed by everyone. I appreciate this song more for his contribution. The white man can't keep us down unless we let him.
@WonderWomanFan4life There are black people and there are niggers. You are a nigger.First off dumb fuck, there were no black people on the cover.DAN HARTMAN is on the cover.Second, why wouldnt he get the royalties,he wrote, sung and played on the song. They didnt. And dan has had other hits and played in other popular bands with hits.So do some homework before you run your mouth.Oh thats right, you are black, you wouldnt know what homework is cause you never went to school.go shoot someone then.
You see how the Caucasoid stands up for their people?? I definitely went to college. I truly cannot believe this has outraged so many people. I don't listen to this song anymore. They used the Blacks to make it popular. END OF STORY. We saw it on MTV? Had they shown this video here. Nobody would have watched it. It was the DANCE, the style, the whole song by the SORELS was great. So YOu think all blacks shoot people, uneducated? yes I think the SORELs should be get paid
I think if you took a poll and asked many people who grew up during the AGE of MTV back when they used to play music videos. Majority of them would say BELIEVE the singer of this song was that a black man backed up by some other black dudes called the SORRELs. They would be like why is that Caucasoid singing this song? He knew it, They knew it, the SORRELS put the song on the map they should also get a royalty. WE WERE DUPED but wont be first time. WHERE IS BIN LADENS DEAD BODY
If White people found out that JESUS was a AFRICAN would they still love him? Becasue i do not think that many whites would still love him. Seriously. I am not saying I hate the song I am just saying my visual picture and beliefs were that they were BLACK and when I saw this VIDEO I was shocked. PROGRAMMING is so good that it caused us to believe something that was not true. JuST saying. i do not listen to this song anymore. I dont like it.
yep i figured it out there was like a video they used to play with these black dudes on there. I swear i didnt know they were lip singing. this is really depressing.. lOL i was DUPED.. first milli vanilli now dan hartman. i was all like dam that honkey sounds just like those negroes.
@WonderWomanFan4life i feel ripped off as well knowing that a white guy originally sang this and not a black guy(hope i haven't offended anyone).....oh well i'm a bit annoyed about it but obviously the other guys can't sing very good to lip sync 2 someone elses song.....lol
yep and what pisses me off is that EVERYONE apparently in the industry knew about it.Even those niggas up there singing. They didnt' say a dam thing. WTF??? that really pisses me off to be quite honest. Once again we were DUPED... All this time I thought these Black dudes sang the song. Or was I too young to understand. I rmemeber my mother LOVED this song. Total Bullshit. I dont care if I offended someone. Elvis Prestley was great singer but he copied BLACKs! Like most of them
@WonderWomanFan4life i know how u feel there mate....i didnt know who actually sang it until i saw it here on you tube....i dont think the copying isnt going 2 stop any time soon either which is annoying....
yep... i aggree.. LOL its really funny when you look at it. that is the power of media! we are the few who are saying yes we were duped if it wasnt for YT I would still be thinking these black dudes sang it. I would have bet money on it with friends and lost. LOL crazy times
And RIP buddy. You are a legend for us who were fortunate to live through the 80's. You provided us with fantastic music. Now, you're still rocking it up, up there.
The days before MTV became crap! This is what music is all about here, people. Dancing, singing, wearing funky clothes. Hell yes. No need for baby momma drama, drugged out and whiny teens. MTV needs to go back to its roots and get rid of all the toxic crap they play now. Rock on Dan Hartman!! Hahaha :0)
I have seldom seen a white man touch soul with such grace. Black or white audience... he was on a special channel. I am sadened to hear about his death through the comments...
what a voice on that guy...so much soul on a high tenorship..
Hmm, I used to admire this song when I was a kid but it was a different singer posing as "Dan Hartman" in that music video. Which one is the real Dan Hartman?
@JMR83 Your reaction is what I got from most people who came in my store looking for this song. They thought the group in the movie actually recorded the song.
@JMR83 This is the same phenomenon that launched the career of Hall & Oates. Their Atlantic singles lacked a certain feel in the early 70s. It was 1976 when the black radio stations picked up "Do What You Want" and "Rich Girl" released on RCA and made them "overnight" sensations. Many blacks were shocked when they saw the white faces on the picture sleeves.
The black host with his straighten hair looks like a you know what in today's standards but you know what, I loved the 80s because everyone wore the same style of clothing and hair style regardless of the colour of the skin and the creed. There's a greater division in today's times more than ever and that's just sad!
Hartman rules and 80's everything rules. I miss you so!
Anybody remember when Dan played bass/rhythm guitar and vocals for the Edgar Winter Group back in the early 70s?? Look for a live "Free Ride" on here, where Dan is playing a double-neck bass/rhythm guitar!!
OMG! i always thought it was that black singers group from the movie that sing this song. very very great and classic song, thank you for posting this :)

Who cares? Just enjoy the music.
dscottny 8 months ago 35
@dscottny .. Ignore the simple minds in here which most likely were deprived of great music and classics fro the 80's. Their life now is the internet, iPhones and their 3000 fake facebook friends. I pitty them.
snowboard9 3 months ago
@dscottny I always wondered why they didn't let him sing it in the movie "Streets of Fire" instead having the four guys lip-sync
llkk750 2 months ago

It happens

Strong black men have to dress like women to make it in hollywood. so screw you, dan hartman and this stupid ass song. White is right black bad

RReneeS 11 months ago
@RReneeS
I do not care we are just CHATTING on YT for fun not that serious. really
WonderWomanFan4life 11 months ago
@WonderWomanFan4life Deceptive? I don't know. I don't believe we were "brainwashed" into buying into the idea that we were watching the music of black men being performed. The band in the movie was black. Someone said to Dan Hartman, "Write us a song with an R & B feel to it for this band in the movie to perform" If I were white and had the talents of Dan Hartman I would consider it a great compliment that I would be considered worthy to write something that could cross color lines.
RReneeS 10 months ago 2
@RReneeS
whell why didnt they get a black man to write a song for BLACK people??? hello you don't think niggas can write songs? Dan hartman can kiss my black ass. basically he wrote a song they didnt think his cracker ass could sell any records so they put these black people on the cover... NO problem... then later he gets all the royalties and these EXTRA players or Day players get hardly no money off their efforts. End of story DUPED..
WonderWomanFan4life 10 months ago
@WonderWomanFan4life You waste too much effort on hate and feeling resentful for things that don't matter. It's his song, he gets the royalties. Anyone can write a song, but a black man didn't write this, a white man did. Rather than make this into some sort of reparations black people are owed for our contributions, appreciate this music for what it is. Something to be enjoyed by everyone. I appreciate this song more for his contribution. The white man can't keep us down unless we let him.
RReneeS 10 months ago 2

WonderWomanFan4life 9 months ago
@glynnracing79

I am not saying I hate the song I am just saying my visual picture and beliefs were that they were BLACK and when I saw this VIDEO I was shocked. PROGRAMMING is so good that it caused us to believe something that was not true. JuST saying. i do not listen to this song anymore. I dont like it.

@GoldenOldiesRecs Then again many people thought Rick Astley was black.
JMR83 1 year ago
