  • they blow cause... every bike on the planet needs to be riding soft for the first 10 hours. im saying... start it let it idle... stop let cool down... go do 1 lap... stop it let it cool... to that around 5 times change oil... to that for the first 10 hours on a new bike and youl never blow

  • lol last week i helped push a '10 ktm450sx quad off the track after it blew up after only 10 hours hahaha then i raced another one at tomahawk and beat it. And AustinSwope had to get rid of his ktm450xc and get a trx450r cause he had to rebuild it like 3 times in 2 months. No offense, stock for stock this quad is a beast but once modded, it's no better then anything else. My ltr has had no problems ever and pulls very hard.

    The thing is, the people forget as it's a race ready quad, it demands a race service schedule. So the problems happen of course...

    Pouring smoke? that's a different story then. I'll tell you what happen then: the person who did the service, overfill the oil and it got sucked into the carb and inside the engine, hence the smoke and possibly the engine is gonna blow if you don't stop. It's not the first neither the second that happens. Here's the warning: the oil in the oil screen when the engine is cold, must be in the BOTTOM and when the engine is warm, must be half way up, NOT MORE!

  • @Bodyguard3164 lol wrong. The head gasket blew and possibly more, but i couldn't stay to talk to him. I just helped them get it back to their trailer then i had to go to the gate for my next race.But he came up at the end of my last class that day and shook my hand and asked me my name and we talked for a little bit but i didn't ask wat else happened :(

  • @VELASQUEZx679 i have no idea wat ur talking about.....but it wasn't my quad. mine works fine cause it's not a ktm. If they were so great, the would still be sold, but they aren't cause no body wanted them. not enough performance for the money.

  • @fox13z400 the reason y they r not sold is bc the economy and exchange rates. and they are still sold in europe, asia, and austrialia. just not in north america, south america, and africa. and if u didnt notice, they dont cost 11k to 13k theyre like 6 to 8k now.

  • @JendrusZbojnik not here in the USA they aren't? idk what dealer your at. But even if they were, i probably wouldn't buy one. id stick with suzuki or get a yamaha. I like ktm, don't get me wrong, i just like their bikes. their quads are no doubt the best "stock" race quads, but nobody races a stock quad, and if u do ur gunna get beat.

  • @JendrusZbojnik true, but usually every rider who switched to suzuki did better. even if they didn't switch to the factory team. Ex. cody gibson switched from his kawi to a suzuki when he became a pro.

  • Well this weekend I found something out. And that is that the quad doesnt matter cause i beat a ktm 450 at breezewood proving grounds and all i have is my '07 ltr450 with a slip on Yoshimura and cherry bomb. So u can have ur WAY over priced quad and ill take my ltr and still win.

    The quad does matter but the pilot matters more of course...

    Imagine the following situation: in a competition, your engine blews and your crew have to take out the engine and put a new one. In the KTM they do that in few minutes but in the LTR is a pain in the ass!

    These details have to be paid!

    But of course you ppl only see what quad wins but don't see the rest for the average daily rider lolol

  • Wat r u talking about in the second part of wat u said? i dont understand wat ur tring to say? and how is taking a blown engine out of a ktm 450 easier? Plus if ktm was so amazing then more pple would run them. I bet twice as many pple use suzuki then they do ktms with quads.

    Taking the engine out in the KTM is much easier than the LTR. I know this because i've done the 2 lolol the LTR is a pain in the ass, so much wires, battery etc the engine in the KTM can even be pulled out both sides of the quad. How about that for being easy to work on?

    Ppl don't buy because it's expensive and it's a quad to race on the track. Requires high service etc

    It's a quad to race out of the box. True race ready, not the bullsh*t yamaha and suzuki advertises...

  • true i dont think suzuki or yamaha is truly race race ready outa the box. But they r easy to make race ready. A ktm would only be a race bike at maybe B class. After that ur guna need head porting and new cams and and atleast and exhaust. Any quad is guna need that stuff to be totally ready.

    True. In the KTM you need exhaust, open the airbox, head work, cams and it would be ready to Pro class...

    Also a revalve in the suspension would be advisable.

  • Yes they do make a 525xc for tight trails and cross country racing..

    KTM is an Austrian company.

  • If the trails you ride are not to tight, get the SX. It's a more powerful engine, more stable etc

  • Good luck with that. If you put 7000 in a brand new LTR, that means the total cost of your quad will be around 14G. Well the KTM costs 11000 and that leaves 3000 to invest in the KTM: full exhaust, JD Jetting Kit, CP 13.5:1 and web cams stage 2.

    GOOD LUCK tearing this SX with your LTR hahahahahah in your dreams

  • Well depends on what you're doing with it. If you go for a lot of trails, go with the 525XC, it was made for that. If you go for MX tracks, the SX is the best!

    Apart from this, the 505SX is more powerfull than the 525XC but has a bit less torque in low/midrange...

  • the 505's have more power than 525's.

    505's have DOHC and much higher compression, the bore is bigger which means it revs faster and the engine is a whole lot more un-choked

  • lol i just looked up the wait of a ktm450sx and it ways 368lbs my ltr450 also ways 368lbs. so its not 50lbs lighter

  • Hey man seems you don't know much about KTM because only this way your ignorance is acceptable. Do you know KTM SX has a WET weight os 365lbs? that's wet and not DRY like all the other manufacturers state lol

    LTR 450 has a WET weight of 414.5lbs so DO THE MATH.

    I have proof of this, a friend of mine weighted both on a industrial scale so.

    If you don't know about KTM so well, i'm not gonna lose my with you...

  • LTR 450 QuadRacer in my opinion is better KTM,s have never proven themselves to be reliable they need more maintainence more than any other brand you might aswell buy a LTR 450 and fit a YOSHIMURA RS5 pipe on their and ur ready to go

  • yep i was thinking the same thing. the ltr450 is the way to go. a ltr with a rs-5 has as much or probably more power than a ktm450sx.

  • No. For a LTR to hang with a KTM 450SX it needs: full pipe, filter, PC. And this is to keep up with the STOCK 450SX because if you remove snorkel from the SX, take off lid box and put a jdjetting kit in the carb, it'll go away...

    You have to remind one thing, the SX it's not only more powerfull than the LTR, it also is 50lbs LIGHTER and that means more acceleration!

  • i dont no wat ur talking about but a stock 450sx makes 46hp a ltr450 with cherry bomb and pipe will make like 48. I have the dynos to back that up

  • I know that but a 450SX with snorkel removed, lid box removed and carburetor properly tuned with JD Jetting kit, makes 49HP!! and i have several dynos to prove it also. Also as i said, the 450SX is 50lbs lighter than the LTR so the LTR can't touch it lolol

    Why is it so hard for you guys to accept the KTM SX is the fastest and lightest sport quad LOL

  • yea but if i tool all th emoney i would save from a ktm450sx and put it into a ltr450 and made them both the same price then the ltr would eat the ktm alive. the ktm cost to much for as little of power as u get.

  • Don't be so sure about that. A friend of mine has a LTR 493cc and a 505 with exhaust and filter only. He rides both and says the SX is as fast as the LTR so, take your conclusions.

    Again, the money the KTM costs more than the others, is justified not only by more performance. It has better quality, better components, better brakes, better ergonomy, easily serviceable etc

  • that proves that the ltr450 is a better quad then the ktm. if i put like another 7 grand into a ltr450 it would kill any ktm. they just arent worth the price period. any1 will agree with me on that. o and like i said u r wrong about the weight thing.

  • stock for stock yea they do make the best quad period. However if i took the amount of money i could save from buying a ktm and put it into another quad like my ltr i would own the ktm. i got my brand new ltr450 for only like $4,800.

  • dont be mad if my ltr can beat ur ktm that u over paid on lol I rode a ktm 450sx today and it does have realy nice power and all but it is also very smooth. it had a fmf pipe on it too and i realy liked it. But i just dont think they are worth as much as they charge for them. O and im talking about the 450sx dirt bike which is even faster than the quad.
