Here is why I'm very certain Ingrid and PeTA want domestic cats as a species eliminated:
PeTA is against the breeding of domestic animals, and they want ALL cats and dogs to be spayed or neutered. Spaying and neutering stops animals from producing offspring. So what happens when ALL dogs and cats are spayed or neutered? And when they can no longer breed? The species goes extinct.
Now if they specified that they wanted non-show or non-breeding quality cats and dogs 'fixed' that might be different. But they want ALL of them altered.
Too bad the reason PETA wants everyone to spay and neuter their pets is to eliminate the species completely (they think it's 'cruel to own animals as pets. guide or assistant animals')
I have done my research, that's how I know. Ingrid Newkirk (the PRESIDENT of PeTA)herself has stated that keeping animals as pets is like 'keeping slaves/keeping them as slaves'.
PeTA believes in COMPLETE Animal Liberation; and that means no animals in zoos, no animals in circuses, no therapy or seeing-eye dogs, and NO ANIMALS AS PETS.
Now correct me if I'm wrong, but PeTA's site also does not state that they support eco-terrorism and violating people's rights (pouring red paint on them, and starting riots that cause inuries to other people for example) to get what they want.
I heard (well actually watched) Ingrid's whole 'keeping animals as "slaves"' speech on a video that interviewed her (it may or may not be still available for viewing on myspace).
Here's the deal. Yes PETA sucks, but the statement that they want to eliminate the species is ridiculous. Maybe Ingrid thinks animals shouldn't be kept as pets, but I doubt she wants to eliminate cats as a species.
MorbidKitten-you are completely wrong, the reason they want everyone to spay/neuter is because there are not enough good people that want to adopt pets. That is why shelters are always so overcrowded, some pets have to live their entire lives in shelters because there are not enough people that want to adopt cats/dogs, etc.

MorbidKitten-you are completely wrong, the reason they want everyone to spay/neuter is because there are not enough good people that want to adopt pets. That is why shelters are always so overcrowded, some pets have to live their entire lives in shelters because there are not enough people that want to adopt cats/dogs, etc.
