@jollyyellow The didn't. It's a mistake by the creator of the video. Donkey Kong is licenced by Nintendo. It could be that Rare was working on the game at the time the owners of Rare moved to Microsoft, thus everything related to Donkey Kong had to be dropped. But apparently the core of the game, the idea was still good so they removed DK and replaced it with something else, Mr Pants in this case.

@maxotron01 It's strange to see that people STILL think an blurry, low-res and illegible texture from the N64 days alluded to Luigi being in a game five years prior to its release date (which the theory was still off by one day of said release date). What's more, those people actually think the idea is less far-fetched than a game very early in development being retooled and eventually molded in to a different game entirely, which is anything but a strange occurrence in game development.

Dude, the ENTIRE N64DD idea was shot dead! Luckily, some games that were to be for the N64DD were remade and finished as GameCube games. Some of these games are kinda crappy, and others are fun as hell. Kinda like Banjo Tooie, which has the best of both worlds. It's a bit quirky and odd, and has a few mindscrew moments, but overall is a generally fun game.

Sometimes, you have to look past the graphics and into the gameplay itself.
